Chief Area Engineer: Operations & Maintenance
Remuneration
R 801,780.00 to R 1,099,896.00 – Basic salary per annum (plus benefits)
Minimum Requirements:
- Relevant NQF Level 7 qualification or equivalent
- Electrical Engineer’s Certificate of Competency
- ECSA registered (Pr Eng. / Pr Tech Eng. / Pr Cert Eng.)
- Valid Code EB driver’s license
- 8 years’ experience in the operation, maintenance and refurbishment of municipal electrical distribution networks or a similar environment
Core Responsibilities:
- Responsible for various sections to ensure sustainable new electrical infrastructure is created and the existing electrical infrastructure is maintained and refurbished.
- Apply well developed technical operation and maintenance skills together with critical thinking to contribute to building strategic capability of the Department
- Manage the distribution business unit to ensure optimum service delivery by minimising losses to Council ‘s electrical networks and inconvenience to customers
- Manage the business unit’s assets to ensure optimum utilization of personnel, equipment, transport and resources available
- Manage the business unit’s personnel to ensure optimal utilization of personnel and create an acceptable work ethic and environment
- Execute administrative functions to ensure proper documentation and record keeping
- Manage the business unit’s capital, maintenance and refurbishment budgets to ensure that requirements for the business unit are budgeted for and that the capital, operational and refurbishment budgets are utilised efficiently and effectively
- Ensure compliance with legislation and organisational policies to ensure a high standard of work is delivered and relevant legislative conditions are adhered to
- Manage customer education and customer service initiatives to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction through the provision of effective service deliver

Area Manager (Operations Waste Management)

R 632 664 to R 867 924 – Basic salary per annum (plus benefits)
Minimum Requirements:
- B Degree in Environmental Management/Environmental Science/Environmental Health/Financial Management/Fleet or Transport Management or Human Resource Management.
- Valid Code B or EB Driver’s licence
- Computer literacy
- Good negotiation skills
- Good Communication skills
- 5 to 7 year’s experience in waste management
Core Responsibilities:
- Plan short, medium and long term operational strategies for the Waste Division
- Co-ordinate, consolidate and draft the operational and capital budget for the depot
- Organise and co-ordinate the activities of the Waste Management Services Section to ensure optimal utilisation of all resources including human resources
- Control activities of the solid waste area to ensure optimum productivity
- Organize and assist with the deployment of contractors/service providers to ensure equal distribution of work in the area.
- Build and improve work relationships between the personnel in the area, its clients, service providers/contractors as well as between employees of the various sections
- Control and evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of various projects
- Assist with bid specifications and attend all relevant meetings
- Perform all administrative duties linked to the position Compile reports and items for submission to the HOD
- Liaise and work in conjunction with various stakeholders and departments

Executive Manager (Waste Management Operations)
Remuneration

Minimum Requirements:
- Degree in Environmental Management or equivalent
- Communication skills
- Financial management skills
- Management and leadership skills
- 5-8 years’ experience in a similar environment.
Core Responsibilities:
- Lead and direct the implementation of Waste Management Operations Services and the sustainable poverty alleviation projects at regional level
- Co-ordinate and consolidate the draft capital and operational budgets for the Regional Waste Management Operations Services Division
- Evaluate service levels agreements and resources deployment on a regional level
- Organise and co-ordinate the activities of the Waste Management Services Division by negotiating with and involving the community in the management of Waste Services Projects
- Manage the productivity and utilization of resources in the Division on a Regional level and control the income derived by the services rendered and the expenditure incurred for the provision of Waste Management services
- Compile and prepare reports for submission to the Divisional Head and Head of Department
- Manage contracts for the Division by preparing bid specifications, evaluating, and approving the performance of contractors and managing the payment process
- Lead and manage Human Resources in the Division and motivate and improve the morale of staff
- Manage illegal dumping in the Region and facilitate and report on identified hotspots. Facilitate the establishment of recreational facilities for community use in the cleaned hotspots
- Manage Stakeholder relationships by liaising with the community, individual members of the public, officials in other municipalities, consultants, contractors, Councillors and the press. Conduct Community Forums
