TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT STUDENT OPPORTUNITIES

Requirements
Skills Programme- Fixed Term Contract

  • Grade 10/11/ National Senior Certificate
    (Grade12/Matric)/ N1 – N5/ Level 2 -4

The programme gives practical exposure to candidates with the
objective of providing structured experiential learning opportunities
Work Integrated Learning (WIL) – Fixed Term Contract

  • National Certificate – N6 (WIL/In-service Training)
  • Institutions of Higher Learning – Letter from the Institution
    requesting WIL (In-service training), Transcript (Academic
    results)

The City offers a program which integrates academic learning with its
application in the workplace where such learning is a specific
requirement to obtain a formal qualification. This work experience is
usually defined, with clear learning outcomes and is formally known
as In-Service Training

National N Diploma/Diploma

  • The City offers graduate internship programmes to students
    who have completed their qualification at a Further
    Education & Training (FET) Colleges or from accredited
    academic institution of higher learning. The programme
    is full time for the purpose of skills transfer

Graduate Internship Programme (GIP)- Fixed Term Contract

  • A 3 year Diploma/National Diploma (from a registered
    University or University of Technology) or from accredited
    academic institution of higher learning.

The City offers graduate internship programmes to graduate students
who have completed their qualification at an Institution of Higher
Learning (University/ University of Technology). The programme may
be either part time or full time for the purpose of skills transfer

Learnerships from 12 up to 24 months

  • Grade 12 additional requirements may vary depending on
    type of Learnership

The City offers vocational education and training programme to
facilitate the linkage between structured learning and work
experience in order to obtain a registered qualification. It combines
theory and workplace practice into a qualification that is registered
on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF).

The City invites suitably qualified unemployed candidates, who meet
the relevant minimum requirements to apply for Internship
Programme
Only Students permanently residing within the jurisdiction of Cape
Town are eligible to apply

Preference will be given to graduates from universities, technical
universities, colleges and TVET colleges, in the jurisdiction of Cape
Town. Interns must not be enrolled for further studies coinciding with
the internship period with the exception of PhD and Doctoral
students.

Key Performance Areas
The City is embarking on an ongoing drive to train numerous recruits
on various programmes within the City of Cape Town.
This forms part of the City of Cape Town’s commitment in addressing
the high levels of unemployment in our youth, as well as providing the
necessary opportunities for skills enhancement.
The Student Opportunity initiative is to provide exposure and
experience in various Directorates within the City. Once completed,
the acquired skills will significantly enhance opportunities for
employment in various sectors industry.
Special conditions attached to the opportunity:
Students must not be enrolled for further studies coinciding with the
internship programme training period with the exception of Work

Integrated Learning Programme, PhD and Doctoral Programme.
It must be emphasised there is no automatic guarantee of
employment following the successful completion of the programme.
Students may be involved in special project and receive

Senior Professional Officer – Project Support

Requirements

  • A relevant 3-year Diploma or B Degree in Information Systems /
    Auditing / Financial management / Public Administration or
    equivalent.
  • Candidates with a Degree will be given preference
  • King IV, IT or MFMA certification is advantageous
  • At least 5 years’ relevant experience in a Project Support, Business
    improvement, Risk, Governance, Compliance, and/or MFMA
    standards
  • A Valid driver’s licence
  • Computer literacy in SAP, CRMS, TTS and Microsoft applications

Key Performance Areas

  • Administers and/or provides support to project managers with the
    planning, management and implementation of projects.
  • Design and implement governance, compliance, monitoring,
    evaluation standards, best practice and continuous improvement
    of service delivery.
  • Implements, monitors and further develops change management
    and communication plans to improve the effectiveness of
    communication, processes and systems within the department and
    with other departments.

Requirements

  • Minimum of National Diploma with certification, a higher tertiary
    qualifications (e.g. B-degree) will be given preference
  • Minimum of 3-4 years’ relevant experience within an IT
    environment will be advantageous.
  • Experience within SharePoint Development

Key Performance Areas

  • Applies knowledge of the SDLC and programming experience to
    software application development lifecycle with an emphasis on
    software design, development, configuration, testing, release, and
    maintenance of internal and external web based software systems.
  • Make design decisions to create innovative, elegant and re-usable
    software systems.
  • Develop key components and modules.
  • Attending to correspondence and enquiries with regard to the
    services,
  • Collaborate with senior developers to constantly improve the

Senior Professional Officer-Job Evaluation

Requirements

  • An appropriate 3 year tertiary qualification (B Degree/ B-
    Tech/National Diploma)
  • Minimum 5 to 8 years relevant experience within a Job
    Evaluation environment.
  • Valid Drivers’ licence
  • Microsoft Office Applications (Excel Essential)

Key Performance Areas

  • Managing Job Evaluation Corporate wide submissions by
    implementing the Job Evaluation System & Procedure.
    This is achieved by inter alia conducting due diligence
    which includes engaging Executive/ Senior Line
    Management, HR Business Partners and other
    Stakeholders.
  • Implementing and Maintaining the integrity of the job
    evaluation system (T.A.S.K): by ensuring the consistent
    application thereof
  • Providing training, input and guidance to Corporate
    Stakeholders and organised labour with regarding to the

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or first Degree in Electrical Engineering, Industrial
    Engineering, Computer Science or Quality Management.
  • Registered Professional Engineering Technologist or eligible for
    registration.
  • 2-5 years’ relevant technical experience with exposure to a
    technical equipment engineering environment and information
    management.
  • Good understanding of technologies related to electricity
    generation and distribution.
  • Excellent understanding of data and attention to detail.
  • Good project management skills.
  • Knowledge of safety legislation and practice.
  • A high degree of computer literacy (programming experience an

Requirements

  • Relevant Bdegree in Property Studies or Legal field
  • Minimum 2 years’ appropriate conveyancing experience

  • Valid B/EB Driver’s licence

Key Performance Areas

  • Overseeing and executing activities iro viable and non-viable city
    owned immovable properties pertaining to the initiation and
    preliminary investigation required for the disposal, reservation,
    prescriptive claims and the granting of other real rights in land.
  • Coordinating the preparation of properties for disposal, reservation

Assistant Professional Officer – Architecture LPSO

Requirements

  • NQF Level 7. B.Tech, National Diploma or first Degree (e.g. BAS),
    recognized by the relevant professional accreditation body (SACAP);
  • Up to 2 years relevant experience required’
  • Registration with the South African Council for the Architectural
    Profession (SACAP) at an appropriate level.
  • A valid Code EB driver’s license:
  • Proficiency in Afrikaans or IsiXhosa will be a benefit;
  • The post does require a significant amount of on-site work,
    community engagement and travel to these areas; and
  • The performance of tasks associated with specific key performance
    areas in this post necessitates that the incumbent be physically fit
    and able bodied.

Key Performance Areas

  • Provide professional architectural assistance to PO, SPO, Head
    towards the inception and concept design of small scale, less
    complex development initiatives of line departments or private
    landowners;
  • Provide architectural support for PO; SPO and Head, towards the
    detail design development, documentation and procurement of
    development initiatives of line departments;
