  • The SS Machine Learning Engineer delivers through self and others to:
  • Use their knowledge of ML/AI and combine it with programming and software engineering skills to enable easier use of and access to machine learning models and analyses.
  • Support local markets and group functions in obtaining business value from the ML
  • Support ML deployments following MLOps and DevOPS approach

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Design and develop Machine Learning systems and patterns
  • Automate predictive model software, including model training
  • Productionise data science prototypes and develop Machine Learning apps according to data science requirements
  • Facilitate the flow of data between ML/AI models and the companies data systems
  • Enhancing data pipelines to ensure that data is clean, accurate and optimized for machine learning models
  • Work with the architecture team to evolve the Big Data capabilities (reusable assets/patterns) and components to support the business requirements/objectives
  • Research, investigate and evaluate new technologies and methods to improve delivery and sustainability of machine learning applications and services
  • Make contributions to the process of defining best practice for the agile development of applications to run on the Big Data Platform
     

The Ideal candidate for this role will have:

Must have technical / professional qualifications: 

  • Matric essential.
  • 3 year degree or diploma in IT, Engineering, Computer Science or relevant field is essential
  • Advanced degree in Computer Science/Math/Statistics or a related discipline would be an advantage
  • Relevant cloud certification at professional or associate level would be an advantage
  • 5+ years Machine Learning, Data Engineering or related software development experience
  • Agile exposure, Kanban or Scrum

Core competencies, knowledge and experience:

  • Experience managing the development life-cycle for agile software development projects
  • Robust data modelling and data architecture skills
  • Knowledge of Big Data frameworks like Hadoop, Spark, Hive, Yarn, Airflow, etc.
  • Experience in working with distributed ML frameworks like H2O and/or TensorFlow
  • Experience in working with various ML libraries
  • Programming experience in Java, Python is required

  • Experience working containerisation services such as Docker/Kubernetes or cloud alternatives would be an advantage
  • Working experience with AWS or GCP would be desirable.
  • Working experience with other distributed technologies, NoSQL databases and streaming technologies would be desirable

Specialist Software Engineer

Role Purpose/Business Unit:

The Software Engineer is responsible for creating prototypes, designing and building modules and solutions in an iterative agile cycle, develop, maintain, and optimize the business outcome.  This role is responsible for estimating user and technical stories, designing and developing code, writing and executing unit and integration tests, and supporting testing of deliverables against user and technical story acceptance tests.  The incumbent is responsible for performing peer reviews, collaborating with architects and other developers to produce “just enough” design, and ensuring that enough technical documentation and training is provided for reference and operational support.  This role is responsible for providing software-related operations support, including managing level two and level three incident and problem management.
 

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Estimate user and technical stories to help inform and prioritize backlog
  • Design modules according to user stories, and technical stories
  • Develop solutions according to module designs and deploy using delivery pipeline
  • Develop and execute unit and integration tests; support testing against user and technical story acceptance tests
  • Suggest improvements to user stories

The Ideal Candidate for this role will have:

Must have technical / professional qualifications and experience: 

  • Matric/Grade 12 qualification (essential).
  • 3-year degree or diploma in IT, Engineering, Computer Science, or relevant field.
  • At least 3-5 years relevant experience of which a minimum of three years is in DevOps is essential
  • Experience with Git and CI/CD (GitLab will be advantageous)
  • Experience working with agile methodologies, such as Scrum, Kanban, XP, LSD, and FDD is advantageous
  • Strong knowledge of software architecture principles is advantageous
  • Experience working in cloud-native environments (AWS Cloud) is essential
  • Professional experience and knowledge of the Telecommunications industry preferred
  • Certified Scrum Developer (CSD) preferred

Role Purpose/Business Unit:

  • The incumbent will be required to design, scaling, and management of all SDM eco-system platforms to improve operating efficiency. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of operations and DevSecOps specialists supporting the Mediation & Data Integration ecosystem.
  • Responsible for the data platforms and all related components both on-premises and in-public-cloud ito of hardware, software, application, operating system lifecycle, cybersecurity, patching, and lifecycle management. 
  • Implement practices, processes, and measures to continually assess, review and improve data platform performance following a continuous improvement approach.
  • Develop, establish, maintain, and optimize DevOps practices, processes, and measures (KPIs & SLAs) to manage and ensure SLAs and KPIs of services are maintained.
  • Establish, Implement, manage and control SQA (service quality agreements), vendor management, and performance management, and ensure value realization from these services for the SDM ecosystem landscape all by SCM policies and procedures.
  • Contribute, guide, and develop the minimum capability to adhere to governance and compliance policies including regulatory requirements for the SDM ecosystem landscape.
  • Acting as a technical authority, providing input and guidance into technical solutions and implementations.
  • Engage with various support teams & vendors to ensure that the data platforms are optimal and efficient.
  • Competently communicate and collaborate with multiple product lines, customers, and development teams for anything data related to the communication plan.
  • Conduct regular audits to ensure the platform aligns with the best design and operating practices.
  • Develop automation for the setup and maintenance of data platforms and ensure the software is always at OEM supported level.
  • Modernize data platforms to make them more sustainable, scalable, performant, and cost-effective.
  • Executing and managing operational projects to ensure delivery as per agreed timelines and scope.

The ideal candidate for this role will have:

Must have technical/professional qualifications: 

  • Matric/ Grade 12 is essential.
  • A 3-year IT or IS degree or diploma or related field is essential.
  • 10+ years of overall IT experience with Mediation, Data Management, DevSec Ops and Platform Management and Platform as a Service (PaaS). 
  • Relevant certifications at a professional level are desirable.
  • Relevant cloud certification at the professional or associate level is desirable.

Core competencies, knowledge and experience:

  • Service Management experience working closely with agile methodologies, such as Scrum, and Kanban, and with teams leveraging DevSecOps and Continuous Delivery / Integration (CD/CD). 
  • Experience within the SDLC practices like CI/CD Pipelines, Data Management, Platform Management, Application Operations, CyberSecurity and Governance/Compliance.
