ANIMAL ATTENDANT X2

(X2 PERMANENT) • (R14,116.71 – R19,056.66 P/M)

JOB PURPOSE: To participate and perform duties associated with animal husbandry, i.e. daily
care of animals (feeding, removal of waste, etc.), the maintenance of enclosures and conduct
behaviour observations.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS: • Adhere to all animal care procedures as per animal husbandry
manual • Assist in the loading/ off-loading of animal feed from kitchen and truck • Verify that
food is prepared as per diet sheet and feed animals accordingly • Remove left over food after
animals have eaten • Assist Keepers in ensuring that the animal in within allocated section is
content and healthy at all times • Handle animals as required and assist in restraining/ controlling
problem animals (as directed by superior) • Assist in the application of animal treatments to
ward off pests (e.g. flies) under the instruction of the veterinarian/ nurses • Assist Veterinarians/
Nurses and other personnel with the administration of medications or with restraint • Assist in
hand rearing of new-born animals and animal training, including performing night duties when
required • Monitor temperature of temperature-controlled enclosures • Provide suitable browse for
animals as identified by the section Curator or Keeper • Ensure cages and animals are properly
numbered and identified • Capacitated to act in the absence of a Keeper • Adhere to all animal
care maintenance procedures • Clean and disinfect all areas of the enclosure (e.g. night-room,
blankets, food and water bowls, etc.) using animal friendly products including windows into and
surrounding the enclosure • Perform the required cleaning and maintenance of all equipment and
tools • Monitor electric fences ensuring that they are in good working condition daily • Monitor,
prevent and escalate holes or gaps in the fences to prevent animal escape • Ensure enclosures
are safe, secure and clean in order to provide safe and clean environment to animals at all times

  • Adhere to the collection management policies, processes and procedures • Assist in animal
    census daily of the animals • Conduct daily animal observation with respect to general physical
    condition, obvious signs of illness, disease and discontent; record observations and report any
    abnormal behaviour or incidents to supervisor immediately • Assist with recording of all animal
    movements on the observation sheet, namely: feeding times; food consumed; faecal observation;
    births/ deaths; behavioural changes (including reproductive behaviours); temperature of
    enclosure (if required) • Provide input into animal husbandry manual on an annual basis
  • Provide enrichment for the animals in within allocated section as per international standards
    under the directorship of the Curator, the Keepers, the Veterinarian and the Enrichment Officer
  • Participate in the construction of enrichment structures, platforms and jungle gyms • Provide food
    to animal in a manner that caters to sensory enrichment needs • Participate in Zoo environmental
    awareness/ education programmes talking to public stakeholders about the animals • Participate
    in conferences regarding specific categories of animals specific to Johannesburg Zoo animals
  • Participate in and share observation data for research and conservation projects • Handle the
    birds and identify animals for antelopes • Participate in peer education • Activities may include but
    are not limited to: capturing of game; capturing of escaped animals; tagging of animals; herding
    of animals • Assist in the transportation process of animals • Ensure compliance with provincial,
    governmental and international laws concerning the keeping, transporting and relocating animals
  • Adhere to national and international animal health and welfare legislation • Work within World
    Association of Zoos & Aquaria (WAZA) and Pan-African Association of Zoos and Aquaria (PAAZA)
    guidelines • Actively participate and manage own performance levels • Ensure regular one-on-one

    operation and employees will be expected to work over the weekends.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS: • Matric / Grade 12 • Course on animal care, management or

CASHIER SUPERVISOR

JOB PURPOSE: To manage and supervise the entry and exit of patrons at all entrances at
the Zoo on a daily basis inclusive of gate takings at the Zoo. To ensure that all pay points are
manned at all times and also ensure that all gate takings are banked timeously. Administer
accurate control sheets for reconciliation purposes to uphold the integrity of financial reporting.
Compile accurate visitors report and submit to the Finance Officer. The Zoo operates on a 7-day
a week basis

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

Operational duties: Management of the daily float: count float and issue to all cashiers; record
in the Float Book; ensure that each cashier sign in the float book • Record cashier’s money and
lock in the safe • Ensure that all cash and reconciliations are done daily • Record variations in
the variation sheet • Ensure that the parking machine is operational at all times • Ensure that
speed points machines are operational at all times • Collect and deliver of documentation to

SENIOR TRAINING SPECIALIST

JOB PURPOSE: To oversee the training and development of technical and occupational
skills within JCPZ through the facilitation and coordination of the JCPZ Skills Academy.
To oversee the administrative and reporting of the functioning, accreditation and delivery
content for the JCPZ Skills Academy. To direct the curriculum development and delivery of
technical skills training for JCPZ in line with SETA requirements.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
Identify and assess training needs within JCPZ: Oversee the organisation wide Skills

INTERNAL AUDIT MANAGER

JOB PURPOSE: To assist the Internal Audit Department in providing assurance to the
JCPZ Board and Management on the adequacy and effectiveness of systems on Internal
Control, Risk Management and Governance Processes. To assist in the development and
implementation of the risk based Internal Audit Annual Plan. Manage JCPZ audit projects
and that audit work conforms to the Professional Practices Framework of the Institute of

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

JOB PURPOSE: To create and deliver best employee relations practices which entails
developing and maintaining positive working relationships between JCPZ and employees;
trade unions and employee representatives. Ensure compliance to ER policy and relevant
legislation. Manage labour disputes in a fair, transparent and equitable treatment in order to
contribute to labour harmony and engaged workforce

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
Employee Relations Training: Implement an annual training and awareness plan
according to development gaps identified • Create awareness and conduct training on
labour legislation; JCPZ employee relations policies and procedures • Measure impact of
development interventions.
Employee Relations Products: Develop and implement effective employee relations
products • Evaluate and improve employee relations products • Update ER standard
operating procedure • Assist employees and management in understanding policies and
responding to queries thereof • Ensure continual communication of JCPZ ER policy and
processes changes.
Employee Relations Processes: Assist with incident investigations • Attend and coordinate
all dispute resolution processes within JCPZ • Ensure all grievances are administered in
accordance with legislative requirements • Ensure accurate and complete documentation
that allows for effective audit of the process • Provide appropriate assistance to line
management in the compilation of disciplinary allegations and general correspondence
between the parties • Advise line management on accurate application of JCPZ policies
and procedures in handling complaints; misconducts; poor performance and incapacitation
processes • Initiate disciplinary enquiries and conduct investigations for serious misconduct
in line with SOP • Represent JCPZ at the CCMA and the Bargaining Council • Keep all
Employee Relations files and information confidential.
Service Level Agreements: Implement service level agreements with each line function

  • Participate in communication forums with each area to keep customer base informed of
    developments, progress and non-compliance issues • Build good working relationships with
    line functions.
    Compliance and Reporting: Monitor and record levels of compliance with internal
    processes; procedures and labour legislation • Report on levels of compliance • Recommend
    corrective actions • Follow up on implementation • Produce monthly and quarterly employee
    relations activity reports.
    HR Projects: Manage projects with HR colleagues to ensure effective and appropriate
    communications • Contribute to the development of the annual HR Cross Functional Team
    Commitments Plan • Participate in the HR Cross Functional Project deliverables.
    Internal Communications: Identify methods to achieve strategic communication goals
  • Develop, implement and review the internal communications strategy and plan to ensure
    effective communication throughout the organisation.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS: Degree or National Diploma in HR/ Law/ Industrial
Psychology / Labour Relations or equivalent NQF Level 6 qualification • Minimum of 3 years’
experience in employee relations • Extensive working knowledge of labour legislations

  • Internal organisational policies and procedures.

GOODS & SERVICES COORDINATOR X2

(X2 PERMANENT) • (R689,205.02 – R822,042.44 P/A)

JOB PURPOSE: To coordinate and implement all supply chain processes and procedures
of the company by making sure that procurement of goods and services via RFQ’s are in
compliance with legislative requirements.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
JCPZ Requisition Process (Non-tender): Coordinate, monitor, analyse and review RFQs,
RFP and RFI as per SCM policy and procedures • Conduct market research on highly
consumed items and prepare price lists • Consolidate identified needs and schedule RFQ
adverts on quarterly basis • Coordinate and assist end user to identify needs on goods and
services • Coordinate and monitor website adverts; close and open registers • Coordinate and
monitor day-to-day operations of SCM activities • Coordinate the logistical functions relating to
SCM • Coordinate weekly panel adverts and specification approvals • Liaise and consolidate
annual needs with key stakeholders in the value chain • Monitor work in progress and report
back to end users • Monitor pricing and advise departments on best practices • Review and
approve all RFQ procurement transactions • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as
assigned • Prepare and submit supplier recommendation and correspondence • Prepare and
submit National Treasury monthly reports for approval of more than R100k • Review and submit
for approval reports on RFQ evaluations • Sign department SLA with end users to effectively
achieve set targets as per their needs.
JCPZ Internal Controls: Aid in managing the budget and expenditure within the department

  • Ensure internal controls, processes, procedures and quality standards are adhered to by the
    staff • Ensure the continuous improvement of the functioning of the department including but
    not limited to policy, process, procedure and quality improvements • Monitor and ensure internal
    controls, processes, procedures and quality standards are adhered to by the staff reportees.
    Optimise individual and team performance: Performance Management • Actively participate
    and manage own performance levels • Mentor and support the learning and development of
    team members • Contribute to team effectiveness and cohesion.
    Manage expectations of internal and external stakeholders: Build and maintain
    relationships with stakeholders • Communicate appropriate information and status updates/
    reports to relevant stakeholders

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS: • Degree in Supply Chain Management or Logistics or
equivalent NQF level 7 qualification • 3 – 5 years of experience in the procurement environment.
