Lead Enterprise Architect

Job Description

Brief description

The Lead Enterprise Architect ensures that the South African Reserve Bank’s (SARB) information technology (IT) strategy is aligned with its business strategy and enables the business goals.

The purpose of this role is to lead and enable business and IT leaders to make technology investment decisions, the optimisation of the technology estate and future thinking about technology choices that balance and prioritise the current operational demands, disruptions and opportunities with a longer-term strategic vision of the SARB.

Detailed description

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following key performance areas:

  • Provide technology guidance, road maps, principles, standards and best practice that support the strategic goals of the SARB, ensure business and IT alignment, and guide Solution Architects, Enterprise Architects and Domain Architects.
  • Manage senior client relationships with business customers and committees in respect of architecture and optimisation.
  • Analyse how the strategy of a department impacts on the business from the top to the bottom and the implications thereof.
  • Define what is required to optimise the strategy across the different domains (data, applications, technology, business, solution) and the resultant solution.
  • Plan and monitor the development of solutions for the client department, and advise/give inputs to teams from different disciplines in the execution of their work.
  • Provide guidance as an expert in the relevant architecture domain with sound knowledge of other domains.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to senior management in a department, giving input to strategic planning, and identify solutions to business problems and opportunities for optimisation.
  • Monitor and manage associated risks – not just for the department, but also for external stakeholders.
  • Lead the established and maintenance reference models and frameworks for the relevant architecture domain.
  • Develop business-oriented implementation road maps for the achievement of business strategy, and govern the implementation of those road maps.
  • Provide the architecture scope, input and advice to other architecture domain teams.
  • Quality-assure and integrate the analysis provided by other business analysts and teams from other domains.
  • Perform project-based performance appraisals for team members and provide input in the overall performance evaluations. 
  • Perform performance appraisals for the enterprise architecture team based on the organisational scorecard.
  • Ensure that the methodologies and analytical tools comply with international guidelines and practices.
  • Lead the internal evaluations of methodologies and tools in order to improve and refine their application.
  • Use methodologies, tools and practices to optimise the achievement of business strategy and its underlying processes and architecture.
  • Negotiate and resolve conflicts, issues and change requirements as they relate to the business architecture and its integration with other domains.
  • Lead team engagements within the relevant architecture domain and with other domains to integrate data, analyses, findings and recommendations, and identify cross-cutting risks and requirements.

Qualifications

To be considered for this position, candidates must be in possession of: 

  • a Master’s degree or an NQF 9-equivalent qualification in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Information Management, Technology or a related discipline;
  • 10–12 years’ experience in at least three architecture domains such as business architecture, data architecture and application architecture;
  • IT and business/industry work experience, including architecture design and deployment as well as systems life cycle management;
  • leadership experience in managing multiple, large, cross-functional teams or projects, and influencing senior-level management and key stakeholders;

Qualifications

To be considered for this position, candidates must have:

Solution Architect (1FinSurv Programme)

Job Description

Brief description

The main purpose of this position is to develop and implement the architectural design of solutions to support the business goals and to ensure alignment of business and information technology (IT) at a solution level for the Financial Surveillance Transformation Programme (1FinSurv Programme) within the South African Reserve Bank (SARB).

Detailed description

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following key performance areas:

  • Develop solution architectures for different projects and govern the end-to-end delivery of solutions to business.
  • Combine various domains (business, data, application and technology) and architectural as-is (baseline) and to-be (target) models with roadmaps to create an overall solution architecture and roadmap with the supporting transition architectures.
  • Collaborate with the Lead Solution Architect and ensure alignment between the enterprise architecture, solution architecture, architecture principles and information and communications technology (ICT) standards to ensure standardisation and reduce risk.
  • Ensure the developed solutions meet the business and technical requirements, both functional and non-functional.

The main purpose of this position is to plan and supervise the day-to-day security operations of the operational security personnel at the Durban Cash Centre facility of the South African Reserve Bank (SARB).

Detailed description

  • Manage the facilities protection function at the Durban Cash Centre.

  • Develop a one- to three-year risk management plan/programme in keeping with the South African Reserve Bank’s (SARB) Risk Management Committee and Board Risk and Ethics Committee objectives and annual plans.
  • Provide input into the group risk management, business continuity and compliance policies and related frameworks for infrastructure risks (real estate, construction and engineering).
