Job Purpose
Plans, leads and directs critical outcomes of the Cleansing & Solid Waste Unit by formulating
strategic short, medium to long term plans encapsulating critical applications necessary to deliver
outputs.
Key Responsibility Areas
Directs and leads activities within the Unit in accordance with the National Waste
Management Strategy as a legislative requirement of the National Environment
Management Waste Act (No.59 of 2008).
Directs and controls the functions mandated with the delivery and continuous improvement
of the Cleansing & Solid Waste function in the eThekwini region.
Manages and aligns processes relating to defining contractual obligations against the general
principles of law and statutory regulations.
Forward planning, strategic alignment, defining strategic and functional objectives of the
function’s intent and deliverables.
Controls outcomes associated with utilisation and performance of personnel within the
function.
Disseminates functional and operational information on the immediate, short and long-term
objectives and current applications and constraints.
Planning and preparing capital and operating estimates and controlling expenditure for the
Unit against the approved budget allocations.
Manages the administrative and reporting requirements associated with the key
performance and result indicators.

Essential Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree (NQF Level 7) in the Environmental Science/Health or Built Environment
profession or any other related and equivalent qualification.
Registration with the relevant professional body.
Valid motor vehicle driving license.
9 Years relevant experience of which 4 years must be at a senior management level.
Computer Literacy.
Preferred Requirements
Post graduate qualification (NQF Level 8) in the Environmental Science/Health or Built Environment profession or any other related and equivalent qualification
