Key Purpose

Research, development and implementation of innovative insurance products and rewards mechanisms that will complement Discovery Insure’s existing suite of products.

Areas of responsibility may include but are not limited to

  • Research into new insurance products and risks to make informed and innovative product development decisions.
  • Key involvement in the design, development, and implementation of new products.
  • Analytical and pricing capabilities to understand the financial implications and parameters involved when developing new products, to ensure profitable results.
  • Collaboration with various teams within Insure and the group on product development and strategic projects.
  • Working with other teams to ensure products are operating in an efficient and accurate manner.
  • Monitoring and reporting ongoing results to ensure products are producing optimal results.

Education:

  • Matric (Essential)
  • Minimum 6- 7 completed CT subjects (essential)
  • TASSA qualification (advantageous)

 Minimum Experience:              

  • At least 4 -5 years’ experience in an Actuarial role.
  • At least 1 years’ Research and Development experience within Insurance industry (advantageous)                                                                                                           
  • At least 1 years’ experience in short-term insurance (advantageous)

Key Purpose

The successful candidate will be required to take accountability to lead, organise, plan and control multiple technical IT projects, in a manner that will ensure that the Project goals and objectives are achieved within the overall scope and that overall delivery takes place within time and budget and ensure that value is provided to the department to meets its objectives.

To ensure sound financial management of and capital planning for Discovery Insure and compliance with the relevant legislation and regulatory reporting requirements.

The Chief Financial Officer will be responsible for:

  • Monitoring and Financial reporting – Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual results of the business to senior management and the Insure Board. This includes both internal and external (regulatory etc) reporting needs as well as fulfilling the role of investor relations in the short term environment.
  • Billing and collections – Ensuring that every client is billed and funds collected and credit control processes are in place.
  • Banking and Treasury –Ensuring that funds are invested and returns monitored for best ROI by working with group treasury functions. This function includes monitoring the capital adequacy of the business.
  • Telematics devices – Ensuring that our asset base of over R100 million of devices are monitored, controlled and reconciled on a monthly basis.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting – Building, monitoring, evaluating and reassessing the future financial position of the business and reporting thereon.
  • Financial operations – Ensuring that the business operates within a robust financial framework and the necessary controls are applied to prevent losses due to fraud or error.
  • Corporate governance and compliance – internal and external audits, risk and compliance work.
  • Financial aspects of mergers & acquisitions and corporate finance work.
  • Play a strategic role with the CEO and Board to define, steer and monitor the business to meet their long term objectives.

Key Purpose

Design and implement robust, scalable and optimally performing systems using Java related technologies, according to provided specifications, standards and procedures, while ensuring compliance with the architectural standards and guidelines laid out by Discovery.

Areas of responsibility may include but are not limited to

Design:

  • Translate business requirements into technical designs adhering to Discovery Insure processes, standards and guidelines, taking cognisance of performance, security and scalability requirements. Deliver within agreed timeframes.
  • Liaise with relevant parties where clarification of business requirements or resolution to technical issues is needed
  • Research and find effective solutions to technical issues that arise
  • Estimate development timelines based on business requirements

Development:

  • Construct robust, maintainable, scalable, optimally performing system code in line with technical specifications, following prescribed process, standards and procedures. Deliver within agreed timeframes
  • Conduct unit testing and fix any defects found

Testing:

  • Verify build stability and quality with development team before releasing to test team, aiming to release with zero defects
  • Assist the Business analyst in ensuring the test pack includes relevant scenarios and test data.
  • Consult and assist in reviewing risk / impact of defects found in testing, and assist with fixing where necessary

Support / Troubleshooting:

  • Assist system users with technical support issues and handle according to defined procedures
  • Ability to effectively analyse root cause of system errors (data errors, performance and stability issues)

Mentoring / Team development:

  • Actively coach other developers to understand and apply the Insure coding and architectural standards correctly, as well as any technologies in use
  • Perform code review to ensure logical correctness, maintainability, scalability, performance, compliance with architectural standards and frameworks

Personal development:

  • Keep abreast of current technological trends and how these might be applied in the Discovery environment
  • Constant improvement of knowledge of the various applications, their functionalities and data models

General:

  • Ability to communicate clearly, constructively and effectively. Easily able to follow and participate in technical, business process, and other discussions
