Advertisement of Internship Programme at the National Consumer Commission

South African unemployed youth graduates between the ages of 18-35 who have not participated in any internship programme in both private and public sectors and require workplace experience are invited to apply.

Stipend: R7000.00 per month
Fixed-Term Period: 24 months

Strategic Goals or Objectives

The NCC pursues the following strategic goals:

  • To promote accessible consumer protection
  • To promote a Fair Marketplace
  • To Promote the supply of Safe Goods to Consumers
  • To support transformation of the economy by providing guidance to comply with the CPA
  • To support industrialisation by combating illegal imports related to clothing, textile, footwear and leather (CTFL)

The National Consumer Commission is guided by Section 85 of the Consumer Protection Act.

The main function of the NCC is to enforce the CPA by:

  • Improving consumer protection through education and awareness interventions,
  • Improving compliance with the CPA through business guidance interventions,
  • Receiving complaints concerning alleged prohibited conduct and dealing with them as prescribed by the provisions of the CPA,
  • Monitoring the consumer goods and services market to prevent, detect and/ or prosecute contraventions,
  • Conducting investigations against suppliers allegedly engaging in prohibited conduct,
  • Issuing and enforcing compliance notices,
  • Negotiating and concluding undertakings and consent orders,
  • Referring any concerns regarding market share, anti-competitive behaviour or conduct that may be prohibited in terms of the Competition Act to the Competition Commission,
  • Referring alleged offences in terms of the CPA to the National Prosecuting Authority, and
  • Referring matters to the Consumer Protection Tribunal (Tribunal) and appearing before the Tribunal.
