Cambridge Teacher Trainee
Cambridge Teacher Trainee
Educore Academy is recruiting for our January 2025 cohort of primary and secondary participants to train for a Cam-bridge professional development qualification. We are inviting degree holders in any discipline to apply. To participate in the programme, candidates must have an excellent standard of written and spoken English and sufficient competence in digital technologies.
About the Academy
The Educore Academy is Zambia’s first fully practice-based teacher training academy, established in 2014. Participants train with the Academy in one of the Educore schools (based in Solwezi, Kalumbila and Lusaka) or a selected ISAZ school (based in Lusaka) on an ‘earn while you learn’ model, receiving a stipend while they train on the job. The Acad-emy partners with Cambridge International and ISAZ (International Schools of Zambia) to deliver training, benefiting from the excellent educational context in the Educore and ISAZ schools.
Applicants will work toward a Cambridge Professional Development qualification (CPDQ) Certificate and then a Diploma. This is highly regarded by many schools including ISAZ (International Schools Association of Zambia) but please note it is not a Zambian teaching qualification.
Trainees are expected to participate fully in all areas of school life, including pastoral care and extra-curricular activities, while being supported with protected time to complete their studies.
About the Schools
Educore runs a family of eight schools in the North Western and Lusaka provinces of Zambia, educating children and young people from pre-Nursery to Year 13. The Trident and Sentinel schools use the Cambridge curriculum, with IGCSE and A Level public exams. Sentinel and Frontier schools also offer ECZ Grade 7 and Grade 9 exams. Each school’s aim is to provide an outstanding, holistic education in the context of the school, and there is an emphasis on outdoor educa-tion, social responsibility, sports, music and the arts at every Educore school. The secondary Trident and Sentinel schools also offer boarding.
Scope and Responsibilities
As one of a group of several other trainees, successful candidates will be immersed full-time in the school they have been assigned to. They can expect to spend most of their time in the classroom, taking an active role in teaching, and learning how to become world class teachers and leaders. Trainees can expect to be responsible for teaching, marking, planning and supporting other practitioners, as well as contributing to and leading sports, clubs, events and school trips. Trainees placed at the boarding schools will also learn about and take on boarding responsibilities, and all trainees will support the Educore pastoral care ethos and practices. They will follow a structured and well supported training pro-gramme which will include theory as well as practise in accordance with government and Cambridge requirements.
Qualification Requirements
Who: Applicants must be Zambian citizens with a Bachelor’s degree from a recognised university, and excellent English, ICT, numeracy and subject proficiency. Candidates should be able to show resilience and flexibility, and a demonstrable interest in extra-curricular activities such as sports or arts. Experience in a pastoral setting is an advantage but not expected.
How long: A fast-track Certificate and Diploma, which takes between 3 and 5 terms.
Where: Educore schools and selected ISAZ schools, in either the primary or secondary phase, depending on degree discipline and trainee suitability. Additional learning components take place through contrasting and similar school placements and occasional residential training.
Key Skills
We are seeking high-calibre candidates for this very exciting role. The following would be an advantage:
- An excellent standard of written and spoken English
- A demonstrable interest in extra-curricular activities and sports
- Resilient, hard-working and flexible
- A desire to effect change and work with young people in a dynamic atmosphere
- A desire to work and improve within the Educore and/or ISAZ ‘family’ for at least two years
An online application form can be found here.
Closing date: 31 / 10 / 2024
