Consultant/Accountant

Location: Midrand, Johannesburg

Employment Type: 12 months

Overview:

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated SAIPA Accountant/Consultant with a minimum of 1 year of post-qualification experience to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing professional accounting services, financial reporting, and ensuring compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements. As a SAIPA-registered professional, you will contribute to the financial health of the organisation by ensuring accuracy in accounting processes, reporting, and compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

General Accounting:

  • Manage full accounting function for clients or the organisation, including bookkeeping, reconciliations, and preparation of financial statements.
  • Process month-end and year-end financial reports.
  • Ensure accurate and timely recording of financial transactions in accordance with IFRS or IFRS for SMEs.

Taxation:

  • Prepare and submit VAT, PAYE, and Income Tax returns for clients or the organisation.
  • Ensure compliance with SARS and other regulatory bodies’ tax requirements.
  • Provide tax planning and advisory services.

Financial Reporting:

  • Compile and present financial statements, management reports, and analysis.
  • Develop and manage capital budgets, ensuring alignment with project goals and financial constraints.
  • Conduct financial forecasting for capital expenditures and project cash flows including the preparation of budgets.
  • Perform variance analysis on financial data to support decision-making.

Stakeholder Collaboration:

  • Work closely with project managers, finance teams, and other stakeholders to provide financial insights and support decision-making.
  • Maintain strong client relationships by providing regular updates on financial performance and regulatory changes.
  • Offer financial advice and accounting guidance to clients.

Compliance and Regulatory Reporting:

  • Ensure compliance with IFRS, SARS and other statutory regulations.
  • Keep up to date with changes in accounting standards and tax laws.

Ad hoc Duties:

  • Assist in various accounting projects and initiatives as required.
  • Provide training or guidance to junior staff members when necessary.

Qualifications:

  • BCom in Accounting or equivalent qualification.
  • SAIPA membership (Registered Professional Accountant).

Experience:

  • Minimum of 1-year post-qualification experience in accounting, preferably in practice or a corporate environment.
  • SAP experience a bonus.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficient in accounting software (e.g., SAP, Xero, Sage, Draftworx) and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Strong understanding of IFRS or IFRS for SME and relevant tax laws in South Africa.

Soft Skills:

  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Problem-solving mindset and ability to adapt to a changing environment.
  • Proactive and work with minimal supervision.

Minimum Requirements
Qualification:

Matric
Experience:

1-2 years in office cleaning.
Basic office hygiene requirement.
