Job Description
Main Purpose of the Job:
The Operations Department has a vacancy for a permanent Inspector in the Ceres region (Tulbagh Sub-Area) to conduct inspection of products and equipment according to standard protocols as prescribed through PPECB’s legislative mandate.
Job Description *
Inspect and certify perishable products.
Inspect the handling, storage and transport of perishable products.
Ensure the correct application of quality management systems, BMS procedures and work instructions.
Perform administrative tasks.
Provide continuous support to Chief Inspector.
Provide technical support to Inspectors.
Assist with training of Inspectors.
Build and maintain good relations with PPECB clients.
Communicate with various clients on own specific task and outcome of decisions
Participate in the relief duty roster
Accept the responsibility of continuous self-improvement in their area of responsibility according to the PPECB performance framework.
Job Requirements
A tertiary qualification in an agricultural discipline with at least 2 years relevant work experience. Please note: Candidates with less experience, but with proven outstanding performance will be considered in line with PPECB’s EE policy
Technical competencies on the following principles/products are mandatory:
- Pome Fruit and/or Stone Fruit.
- Practical experience/competency in Grapes, Citrus and Vegetables will be an advantage.
Competency requirement of minimum 50 credits (Technical) and minimum of 15 credits for (Soft skill) is mandatory.
Knowledge, understanding and experience of all inspection and/ or cold chain services relevant to the specified geographical area.
Excellent proven experience on implementation and maintenance of all regional processes and databases.
Computer Literacy.
Good verbal and written communication skills
The ability to work with minimum supervision.
Proven track record of taking ownership and being accountable.
Excellent customer service skills
A valid code 08 driving license and own reliable vehicle is a requirement for doing the job.

Agri-Export Technologist Programme AETP
Job Description
During this 12-month Development opportunity, successful candidates are placed at inspection-points in various regions under the mentorship of PPECB specialists.
Students are exposed to quality assurance practices applicable to specific perishable products (i.e. citrus, grapes, etc.).
Accredited facilitators provide formal theoretical training on:
- Export legislation and certification
- Factors influencing exports
- Food safety
- Product knowledge
- Cold chain management
- Total quality management systems and viability
- Recent innovations
A nominal amount is provided in the form of a stipend to assist with the students’ costs
Students are placed close to where they reside; However, due to the seasonal nature of the industry out-placement can be required.
How do I apply for the AETP programme?
The application window closes on 30 November. Shortlisting takes place during January every year and short-listed candidates are invited to attend interviews during January and February.
Candidates are notified if they have been successful or not during April and successful students start on 1 April every year.
