Mindful of the prevailing socio-economic conditions in South Africa, and in support of the
national transformation agenda, Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University (SMU) would like
to provide internships to deserving young unemployed citizens. In this way, SMU hopes to
provide experience to young South Africans, and give them the opportunity to be employable
and to compete in the job market.

The incumbents will be exposed to gaining experiential learning in the field of Human
Resources and they must meet the following requirements and be responsible for the following

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree (NQF 7) in Human Resources/ Industrial Psychology/
    Organisational Development/ Employee Relation or equivalent (attach transcript)
  • New entrants into HR environment (in other words you must not have held an HR
    internship before)

DUTIES

Driver

The University is looking for an energetic individual who will be responsible for driving its vehicles
and transporting passengers, goods and mail delivery. This also includes loading and off-loading
of goods, as well as the maintenance of the vehicles. The incumbent reports to the Manager:
Transport and must meet the requirements, competencies and be responsible for the key
performance areas listed below:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Matric/Grade 12 or equivalent certificate
  • In possession of the related driver’s license/permits
  • Two to three years related experience
  • Have the necessary acumen to gain a thorough knowledge of city and suburban streets, and
    navigate this
  • Demonstrate a high degree of work ethics, and the ability keep to timelines and departmental
    scheduling
  • Ability to work outside of normal working hours as required by the operations

Administrative Officer

The Department of Anatomical Pathology is looking for a dynamic and energetic individual with
meticulous attention to detail who will support/assist the Department with the daily
administration, maintenance and coordination of the Department’s functions and
responsibilities, for high performance and student support. The incumbent in this position will
be responsible for providing office, academic, administrative and ITS functions within the
department of Anatomical Pathology: School of Medicine. The candidate will report to the HOD:
Anatomical Pathology and will furthermore meet the requirement and be responsible for the key
performance areas and competencies listed below:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Matric/Grade 12
  • Three (3) year diploma or degree in Office Management/ Office Administration or Records
    Management and Archiving
  • At least three (3) years relevant experience in office or committee administration
  • Must have a good working knowledge of the ITS system for entering student assessment
    marks
  • Computer literate (Ms Word, Excel, Power Point, Internet, Email)
  • Experience in compiling agendas, recording minutes and action lists to monitor and ensure
    follow-up of actions

The University is looking for an energetic individual with the requisite who will be responsible for
providing administrative and secretarial support within the Research and Innovation Directorate:
Office of the Centre for Entrepreneurship Rapid Incubator, ensure the smooth running of all
Centre for Entrepreneurship Rapid Incubator (CfERI) integrated programmes, CfERI business
start-ups and training modules including in business administration, incubation, financial
management and other integrated programmes. The incumbent reports to the Manager: Office
of the Centre for Entrepreneurship Rapid Incubator and will furthermore meet the requirements
and competencies as indicated and be responsible for the key performance areas listed below:

REQUIREMENTS

  • Three (3) year Diploma or Degree in Office Management/Administration/Records
    Management and Archiving/Management Assistant
  • At least three (3) years relevant experience in office or committee administration

  • Provide efficient business administration support to the office of the CfERI
  • Provide administrative support for the CfERI business integrated programmes and the
    relevant departments/units for the planning, implementation and evaluation
  • Responsible for CfERI/student administration for the entrepreneurship programmes
    including tracking of progress, arrangements for transport, equipment, clinical placements
    and business records.
  • Responsible for financial administration relevant to the CfERI Entrepreneurship
    programmes including typing and filing of grant and any budget proposals
  • Preparing procurement documents, tracking requisitions, expenditure and payments
  • Preparation of reports and maintaining document management system
  • Coordinate the administration of appointments and human resources contracts (part-time,
    full time and fixed term contracts) for CfERI
  • Provide secretariat support to the CfERI
  • Liaise with all relevant stakeholders internal and external to the CfERI and keep records on
    all relevant matters, including financial records for auditing purposes
  • Assist with student entrepreneurship in CfERI.
  • Maintain safety and confidentiality in the handling of all staff, student and other data files
  • Contribute to the overall development of SMU, and actively promote institutional culture
