PURPOSE
Overall responsible for the operating and maintenance of water and wastewater network infrastructure services to customers, in the six operational regions constituting Johannesburg Water service area. Responsible for the delivering of onsite water sanitation services in the six operational regions.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Participate from time to time in the Executive Committee (EXCO) of Johannesburg Water. Participate in the development of the overall strategy for the Operations Department and its implementation In liaison with the Operations Support, ensure that water quality is in compliance with SABS standards (microbiological parameters) at the various pre-selected sampling points of the networks. Manage the six operational regions responsible for the operating and maintenance of the water and sewer network infrastructure including onsite water and sanitation services to informal settlements. Monthly reporting on performance of regions relating to the company business plan and service level agreements with the City of Johannesburg (CoJ). Ensure the development and maintenance of IT systems that are used to execute work in the networks system. Ensure fleet vehicles are well maintained and appropriately operated. Promote the testing of new equipment and material in the operation of water and wastewater networks. Interact with CoJ representatives and Councillors through the various forums in the CoJ. Identify the backlogs of the current water and wastewater infrastructure as well as the upgrading/extension requirements. Prepare the annual budget and prioritise for capital requirements. Assign clear financial objectives in terms of annual costs and ensure compliance to financial regulations and standards set. Ensure that the JW HR policies and procedures are implemented on a sound basis in the regions. Ensure that activities in terms of water and wastewater networks operation and maintenance are completed according to the health and safety requirement included in the OHAS Act. Manage, operate, and maintain Special projects.
JOB REQUIREMENTS: Essential qualifications and experience
National Diploma in Civil, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering with a professional registration as a Technologist at ECSA or GCC or
B-Tech Degree/ BSc in Civil, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering

Attend Regional service delivery meetings and ensure that decisions taken are being implemented and resolved. Ensure sound labour relations practices and management of discipline. Manage personnel in accordance with Johannesburg Water policies and legislation. Ensure the implantation of performance management as per the policy.
