BREWING LAB SPECIALIST

The Key Purpose of this role is to manage & co-ordinate brewery quality control and to ensure quality analysis is conducted in compliance with
company standards and specifications for transformation into information.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

Quality Management

  • Partake in the development of required quality systems for the brewery, contributing suggestions and providing expert advice
  • Implement any required quality system, or changes to current systems, ensuring the laboratory teams have the required competencies
  • Ensure the functional and data integrity of the various quality systems, and identify and resolve problems
  • Ensure that quality goals are incorporated into laboratory team and individual goals
  • Audit compliance to the various quality systems by both the laboratory team and shift based production teams
  • Exercise budgetary controls over the asset care requirements of brewing and utilities plant
  • Liaise with Central Office around quality, and take part in regional and divisional MDT’s

Quality Control and Analyses

  • Checking and verifying that team members are carrying out quality checks and analyses and recording the information on the appropriate systems
  • Verifies that the quality systems are working properly and that data integrity and information accuracy is being maintained
  • Responsible for ensuring that laboratory equipment is operating optimally and to identify problems or opportunities timeously
  • Ensure that COT changes to analytical standards are implemented, through additional training where necessary
  • Ensures that COT standards have been adapted to take into account regional specificity, where necessary
  • Interacts with COT through various MDT as required, ensuring that regional complexities and requirements are properly understood

Team Leadership

  • Lead the laboratory team in a manner that engenders ownership, empowerment and team interaction
  • Ensuring that the laboratory team understands and adheres to the operational, quality and process standards, work instructions and calibration schedules and performance target
  • Mentoring, supporting and coaching team members in the correct execution of their tasks
  • Develop subordinates and ensure training needs are met by carrying out training needs analysis, one on one’s and performance reviews. Where training needs have been identified, corrective action must be initiated The QC manager must drive performance management practices (e.g. IMP), lead the development of team goals and carry out performance reviews and team goal review sessions
  • Exercise budgetary controls over the laboratory


Safety and Housekeeping

  • Ensure that the engineering team apply proper safety and housekeeping procedures, and adhere to all legal requirements when carrying out their tasks
  • Ensure implementation of the appropriate SAB and legislative policies (such as OSH act) on safety and housekeeping
  • Ensure that safety and housekeeping receive appropriate focus through regular checks and safety audits. Where unsafe work practices have been identified, the QC manager is responsible for correcting this

The key purpose of this role is to ensure optimum utilization of plant, raw materials and people, to produce quality product at minimum cost which meets customer requirements and complies with legislation.

Key outputs and responsibilities:

Packaged Volumes:

  • Ensure that hl. packed by brand/pack are in accordance with plan
  • Supply full beer to warehouse and agree on stock numbers
  • Maintain/increase number of hl packed per day in accordance with plan and laid down factory efficiency standards

Packaged Product Quality:

  • Ensure that the packaging process is controlled such that all quality standards are maintained
  • Implement correct action to prevent substandard product and reinforce continuous improvement

Productivity:

  • Achieve and improve all targets i.e. hl per man hour; % GLY and hl / factory hour targets; % LEF and hl / machine hour targets
  • Control fixed costs, beer loss and container loss
  • Prepare and implement plans that produce required outcomes, including materials, machine maintenance and subordinate deployment
  • Motivate and manage human resource, including performance appraisals, discipline, administration, training, IR climate, absenteeism etc.

PACKAGING TEAM LEADER

The key purpose of this role is to manage packaging shift teams, within safety criteria, to ensure production volume plan is met. All production should be packaged in accordance with ABINBEV quality process specifications.
