Purpose Statement

To independently investigate instances of risk related to various types of complex fraud incidents across Capitec Bank (e.g. internal corruption, serious breach of policies and procedures, and criminal syndicates) including investigating the matter, the parties involved and provide appropriate evidence for disciplinary hearings and/or criminal proceedings. Identify potential control weaknesses and recommend preventative measures, improvements and training initiatives against potential fraud to Capitec Bank.  Provide subject matter expertise, technical know-how, experience, oversight and guidance for others in respect of a portfolio, function or department.

Experience

Minimum:

At least 6 years’ experience as a Forensic Investigator/Auditor.

Ideal:

At least 6 years’ experience in Banking Crime investigation.

Qualifications (Minimum)

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in Law or Finance

Qualifications (Ideal or Preferred)

  • A relevant degree in Finance or Law

Knowledge

Minimum:

  • Investigation methods and procedures. 
  • Criminal law and law of evidence of the judicial process.

    Or 
    Honours Degree or equivalent and relevant technical qualifications, plus 5yrs relevant experience.
  • Experience in data science, machine learning and deployment of developed solutions
  • Business analysis and requirements gathering
  • Reproducible coding experience 
  • Working with relational and non-relational databases
  • Experience in at least one ML language
  • Working in cloud environments 

Ideal:

  • Working with multiple teams to deliver predictive models into a production environment
     

Knowledge

Minimum:

  • Deep understanding of one or more state of the art principles and techniques in at least one discipline of data science, e.g., NLP, Deep Learning etc. and can teach to others 
  • Underlying theory and application of machine learning models; able to understand underlying principles and theory and be able to teach others. 
  • Best practices for data science such as reusability, reproducibility, continuous monitoring, etc 

Ideal:

About the role

You will assist the AML Divisional Manager in performing quality assurance reviews across various financial crime compliance functions to ensure accuracy and reasonableness. These functions include, but are not limited to, reviewing suspicious activity alerts, conducting AML investigations, performing enhanced due diligence (EDD) reviews, and overseeing sanctions payment and name screening. Additionally, you will be responsible for training others based on QA findings, stepping in as a team lead when necessary, and ensuring the quality of investigations, particularly in complex AML cases.

Our ideal candidate has

  • A qualification in Risk and Compliance or a related field.
  • 3+ years of investigative experience within a business banking environment, specifically in Anti-Money Laundering (AML).
  • Proven experience in gathering and analyzing information to make informed decisions.
  • Strong skills in interpreting and applying regulatory requirements.

Knowledge of:

  • Legislation regarding money laundering control, proliferation finance and combating of terrorist financing
  • Understanding of money laundering means and mechanisms on a global scale
  • Understanding of sanctions 
  • Client due diligence and AML environment.
  • Understanding the Risk Management and Compliance Programme and the purpose it serves in AML
  • Business acumen
  • Know Your Customer (KYC), risk based approach
  • Investigation methodology and techniques
  • Report writing and evidence gathering
  • Business entity structures and related AML requirements
  • Client due diligence and investigations on juristic and non-juristic clients.
  • Knowledge of Trade-based money laundering
