Role Summary
The Pharmacy Clerk is responsible for surgical stock replenishment, tracking stock with
suppliers, and overall stock management, working in accordance with the Netcare Stock
Management policy. In addition, the Pharmacy Clerk is responsible for the procurement of
ethical, surgical, and consumable stock for the hospital. The incumbent should also be
capable of performing other duties within the CPD department in the absence of
colleagues. The duties of the position include, but are not limited to, data capturing,
packing of stock, and replenishing stock to wards and theatres. The Pharmacy Clerk is
responsible for placing surgical and ethical orders via the appropriate method, in line with
Netcare Stock Management policy, and for ensuring the effective application of Netcare
policy with regard to approved and standardized suppliers. The role involves tracking
stock with suppliers and couriers to ensure the timely receipt of products, managing
backorder situations, and handling associated administrative tasks. The Pharmacy Clerk
is expected to communicate effectively with Stock Controllers, the pharmacy team, and
pharmacists regarding ethical and surgical stock. The incumbent will be involved in all
aspects of cyclical and full stock take processes and will arrange in-service training for
surgical and ethical products. The Pharmacy Clerk will also source ethical and surgical
stock from other pharmacies when stock is unavailable from wholesalers and manage
weekly reports to ensure all stock ordered is captured in the electronic system. Additional
responsibilities include assisting with the barcoding of surgical stock, managing the stock
cycle for slow-moving and near-expiry stock, and ensuring the return of such stock to the
supplier. Out-of-stock items should be communicated to pharmacists, nursing staff, and
doctors. The Pharmacy Clerk should maintain a working knowledge of all other job
functions within the CPD department in the absence of colleagues and perform any other
duties assigned by the Pharmacy Manager or Stock Controller.
