Coordination of Sasol’s mineral rights portfolio ensuring Sasol has access to the necessary rights to prospect and mine and maintains its license to operate. Negotiate, acquire, manage and safeguard prospecting, mining and related rights and ensure legal compliance with applicable mining laws to enable Sasol Mining to successfully conduct their operations.  Coordinate strategic stakeholder engagement inter alia with the Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources (DMPR) and the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS). Provide support to the Regional Operations and Assets Services team related to the acquisition and management of land rights and land access.

Key Accountabilities

• Advise, strategise and provide effective support to the Sasol Group relating to mining legislation and develop strategies to ensure compliance with any legislative changes. • Coordinate and prepare applications for prospecting rights, mining rights, mining permits, amendments, renewal of rights, transferring or cession of rights and related applications ensuring Sasol secures and safeguards its license to operate and maintains unhindered access to coal reserves. • Identification of strategic resources, due diligence investigations, third party negotiations to acquire mineral rights, preparation of sale agreements, facilitate payments, preparation of application for cession of rights, lodge applications with Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources and manage the timely approval, notarial execution of right(s), once approved. • Manage relationships with key stakeholders such as the DMPR, DWS, local authorities, private landowners and/or communities in areas where Sasol Mining’s operations are located. • Ensure compliance with mining legislation such as the Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Act (MPRDA), Royalty Act, BBBEE legislation including the Mining Charter, the Mine Health and Safety Act and a good understanding of Spatial and Town Planning legislation. • Coordination of Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources compliance verification audits. • Effective management of applications to ensure timely approval by authorities. • Ensure compliance with Social and Labour Plan targets and associated regulatory engagements. • Preparation of prescribed annual compliance reports and timely submission of required documentation. • Coordination of the payment of prescribed prospecting fees and adherence to prospecting work programmes of respective rights. • Registration of rights in the Mineral and Petroleum Titles Registration Office. • Ensure access to land to enable mining and prospecting activities to continue unobstructed. • Manage updating of Geographic Information System (GIS) and Landfolio rights management system. • Attend to all MPRDA related enquiries and provide specialist knowledge to project teams in planning new mine developments or mine expansions. • Establish and maintain a register to track applications for rights and compliance to terms and conditions of rights. • Ensure that work standards are met according to quality, quantity and due dates. • Review compliance and follow up against the standards and objectives. The successful candidate will be part of a team of 14 professional nurses working at the Occupational Health department in Sasol Secunda. The candidate will report directly to the Medical Surveillance Manager. The team is working straight shifts, Monday – Thursday 07h00-16h00 and Friday 07h00-13h00.

Medical Surveillance is done daily in this department. All the relevant screening tests are performed here. Issuing of results and quality checks are also part of the day-to-day activities. Purpose of Job

As a professional specialist in the field of capital management, this is an exciting position for the right individual. Responsible to co-ordinate, integrate and analyse with the ability to operate under pressure and independently in meeting key timelines. Which also enjoys attention to detail, ability ensure organised and structured systems whilst developing stakeholder relations will be well suited to this position. 

Improvement and automation of capital processes to enhance efficiency of the existing systems. This includes ensuring of required governance processes are integrated through co-operation with financial and operational business units.

Growing and maintaining excellent stakeholder relationships within a framework of good governance and ability to enable meeting of timeliness will be vital to be successful in this role. Engagement with stakeholders at the various business units, this will require a “hands on” individual to be based at the Secunda offices.

Key Accountabilities

  • To co-ordinate and facilitate the capital budget process during August RCP and January budget cycle. Doing of analysis and presentations to decision makers.
  • Preparation and co-ordination of the Mining monthly capital approval forum (CAF), including meeting governance and associated requirements. 
  • Secure the translation of the long-term Mining strategy into a viable project portfolio for the rolling capital plan (RCP).
  • Support Mining inputs, analysis and presentations to CSAC meetings
  • Engagement with capital stream leads to ensure alignment with the holistic operational Mining complex plan.
  • Support users of the Group Economic Models (GEM’s) and provide guidelines to ensure consistent principles are applied.
  • Interaction with the Sasol Group capital portfolio office and various internal Mining stakeholders such as operational business units, financial, capital scrubbing, cost modelling, budget team and various horizons of mine and business planning, etc.
  • Establish principles and develop appropriate processes and systems to ensure inputs of stream leads are captured to provide and integrated capital portfolio view.
  • Engage with the Mining risk partner to develop a harmonised capital risk management process and the development of standardised capital prioritisation.
  • Validate and introduce projects into the Rolling Capital Plan (RCP) for Mining. Secure timely and quality delivery of the RCP.
  • Ensure projects entering the pipeline actively support the long-term Sasol Group and Mining objectives.
  • Formalised and structured Gate 7 review processes for large projects.
  • Deliver portfolio reports on planned capital expenditure to enable decision making by senior management.
  • Apply aligned and appropriate portfolio management and project approval processes.
  • Verify that software systems (e.g., GEM’s) are up to date based on group guidance to support objective economic evaluations.
  • Create and maintain reports for planned capital portfolio e.g., quarterly reporting.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with internal stakeholders to enable effective portfolio management.
  • Continuously improve own skills and knowledge to obtain performance goals.
  • Capital planning reporting, interpretation, trend analysis and insights.
  • Optimise the project portfolio within resource constraints
