Specialist: Customs

Purpose of the Job

The Customs, APDP & Trade Agreements Department is responsible for the customs compliance, customs risk management and processes for import & export customs declarations, trade agreement origin qualification and the APDP manufacturing incentive program calculations and claims.

What awaits you?

  • Determine customs tariffs and appropriate customs procedures for import & export movement of goods and issue customs clearing instructions ensuring compliance with legislation and regulations.
  • Analysis, reconciliation and reporting to internal and external stakeholders of customs financial data recorded in SAP system.
  • Implementing customs compliance processes in collaboration with other BMW business units and supporting BMW associates ensuring ongoing customs compliance & risk management.
  • Co-ordinate and represent BMW’s position in dealing with SARS Customs and other regulatory authorities (e.g. applications for rulings, registrations, licensing & accreditation, permits and compliance audits).
  • Providing inputs into the design and adaption of business processes and IT systems to ensure ongoing compliance with changes in legislation and regulations.
  • Participate in industry & stakeholder forums and government engagement with objective of advancing BMW’s interests and influencing change to legislation, rules & regulations.
  • Participate in tender processes, defining scope of work for customs service providers & clearing agents and onboard and manage the outputs of the nominated service providers.

What should you bring along?

  • Business, Commerce & Management studies degree (NQF level 7) with Honours / Post Graduate Diploma preferably in Taxation Compliance or International Trade & Commerce. Comparable qualifications with relevant experience will be considered.
  • At least 5+ years professional experience in a Customs orientated role with technical knowledge & experience of customs legislation & regulations with ability to research, interpret and apply to business operations.
  • Advanced experience in ERP systems and software such as: SAP, CargoWise One, MS Office.
  • Initiative, adaptability, accountability, collaboration, analytical and clear communicator.

Launch Trainer

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for supporting TX-R-45 with the Launch and special vehicles Assembly within the agreed objectives (quality, cost, quantity, on-time delivery).
  • Responsible for supporting TX-R-45 with the required operations and for operating equipment.
  • Responsible for supporting TX-R-45 with the F2-responsibility for the Launch and special vehicles Assembly.
  • Responsible for supporting TX-R-45 with all activities regarding Launch and special vehicle projects from F0 to F2 including reaching the project targets and implements measures for ensuring the production targets based on the escalation principles.
  • Responsible for supporting TX-R-45 and the product line (Lx) with the technical integration of the car derivatives run-ups (x) by further advancing the targets of the production concept and the product design in the plant network.
  • Responsible to develop all necessary training material and fully train all Assembly Associates on the theoretical and practical aspects of how to assemble the new car, ensuring their competence.
  • Responsible to monitor, track and report the training status for their area.
  • Ensure the maintenance of all training material and tools as changes occur.
  • Responsible to support the trained Associates to build the first cars (T Cars) and later as volume ramps up.
  • Responsible to train the Offline Reworkers on the product to ensure effectiveness of reworking.
  • Responsible for Offline rework support when required.

Qualification and Experience

  • National Diploma – Technical Trade Test and N6.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in Automotive or related field.
  • Detailed product experience.
  • Production experience.
  • Knowledge of BMW systems, processes and requirements.
  • Team / project leadership skills
