The Southern Centre for Inequality Studies is an interdisciplinary research centre located in the Faculty of Commerce, Law and Management at the University of the Witwatersrand. To support its work, the SCIS wishes to appoint an Administrative Officer.
Responsibilities include the following:
· Assisting with the coordination of resources, equipment, meetings, and information;
· Onboarding new staff;

· Providing support for SCIS events.

REQUIREMENTS:
· Bachelor’s degree, diploma or relevant qualification in office and project management;
· At least 5 years demonstrable experience working in a research or similar kind of organisation;
· They will be highly computer literate (including Word, Excel and Outlook);
· Familiarity with Oracle and other university systems and an understanding of university systems as a whole is an advantage;
· Excellent communication skills, familiarity with languages spoken in South Africa other than English;

Academic Concessions and Therapy Co-ordinator
Main Purpose:
The primary outcomes of this job are to assist Students with Disabilities registered with the Disability Rights Unit. This will be inclusive of matters relating to assessment referrals, support, training and researching new advancements in the field.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership of services for students with disabilities related to Neurodiversity as well as students with documented psychological disabilities
· To act as the first point of contact for enquiries relating to the needs of students with disabilities.

· To prepare support plans for students and ensure that these are effectively implemented and monitored.

Screening of concession applications for Disability
· To undertake initial individual screening to assess eligibility for extra time and other concessions and advise accordingly.

· Liaise with external specialists to organise and develop assessments and ensure proper feedback arrangements are in place.

· Make recommendations and liaise with the Campus Health and Wellness Centre (CHWC) and Schools regarding individual students and accommodations needed.
· To inform and update School staff to enable them to work effectively with students with disabilities by ongoing presentations to Schools as well as individual sessions.
· Participate in orientation presentations, focusing on services for disabilities related to students and students with disabilities.
· To supply faculties with the information which supports students to gain exam concessions and adjustments.
· Update teaching suggestions guide for tutors and staff online.
· To keep up to date with any external and internal information and guidance relating to the provision of additional learning support and other student-related issues.
· To develop systematic links with other University departments to ensure that the needs of the students and the additional learning support service are met.

Main Purpose:
The Campaign Manager will support the DFO Deputy Director and Director in the execution of the university’s strategic fundraising plans by leading and managing all support and operations services of the unit, at a high level of service quality.

Senior Manager: Development and Fundraising
Main Purpose:
Implementing Wits University’s strategic advancement and fundraising plans to support the realisation of the 2033 strategic plan and associated strategic projects; continuing, growing and building on the University’s centenary campaign both in South Africa and globally; and firmly positioning the University to be locally relevant and globally competitive well into its next century.
Working closely with the Director: Development and Fundraising, the Senior Manager will play a pivotal role in driving the growth of this external investment, utilising his/her leadership, planning, operations, administrative and budgetary responsibilities in the Unit, in particular as it pertains to its operational systems and practices.

• Maintain oversight of faculty and institutional strategic development projects and initiatives
• Report on progress and status at any stage to the University Executive
• Ensure effective staff management co-ordinated with efficient systems, IT and financial management to support DFO campaigns and unit capabilities

• Manage DFO budgets within overall DFO Financial Management
• Ensure all fundraising, development support, IT and Finance Teams are functioning optimally according to the strategic direction of the University.
Requirements:
• A relevant postgraduate qualification in relevant fields, such as fundraising, sales, promotions, business development and/or corporate communications
• 8 to 10 Years at a Middle Manager level and 3 years at a Senior Manager/Executive level.
• Proven experience in securing high levels of investment in strategic university-type fundraising projects (ie. Academic and Student Funding, and Capital Development Projects).
• In-depth understanding of donor/investor market and associated complexities.
• Proven capacity to lead dynamic teams.
• Proven advanced capacity (with demonstrable success record) to manage, improve and develop financial, project and customer relationship management processes and systems.

Development Professional – International Trusts and Foundations Fundraiser
Main Purpose:
Drive activities that will result in sizable investments in the University’s ambitious plans and projects. The incumbent will be responsible for identifying opportunities and planning approaches within the national and international ‘Trusts and Foundations’ sector to secure significant funding to support Wits projects and initiatives.
The incumbent will be expected to solicit gifts directly or craft ‘asks’ for others as appropriate as well as craft enticing, appropriate proposals and fundraising collateral across a wide range of media.
Brief Description
Key Responsibilities:
• Identifying national and international Trusts and Foundations sector trends and innovations that yield secure investments/donations to the University
• Identifying and securing new sector investment for the University’s priority projects
• Coordinating institutional strategies that will be appealing to current and new investors in the sector
• Ensure high-level stewardship of existing investors and actively re-engaging past investors in the sector
• High-level attention to the process of formulating, writing and submitting business propositions as required
• Contribute to the continued expansion of the prospect database, its accuracy and the quality and application of its data
Requirements:
• Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent relevant qualifications
• 5 years fundraising or related work experience (preferably in the university/donor environment)
• 3-5 Years work experience with national and international Trusts and Philanthropies
• Proven success in securing significant levels of revenue for projects such as university infrastructure, research programmes and bursaries
• Have experience in development, fundraising, public relations, and/ or marketing work
• Have experience and proven competencies in strategic insight and participation in large projects
• Understanding of investor and donor markets, both nationally and internationally
Work experience in a Higher Education Environment.

Operations Manager

GENUS, a Centre of Excellence funded by the Department of Science, Technology and Innovation (DSTI) and the National Research Foundation (NRF), invites applications for the position of Operations Manager (AD.08).
GENUS is committed to establishing South Africa as a global leader in palaeoscience research by providing research grants, bursaries, fellowships, and supporting science engagement programs. We are looking for an experienced and dynamic individual to lead the Centre’s operations management, coordinate funding initiatives, and contribute to the strategic growth of our programmes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee and coordinate research projects funded by GENUS, ensuring alignment with the Centre’s strategic objectives.
- Manage day-to-day operations of the Centre, including administrative support for research grants, bursary programs, and fellowships. Ensure the smooth running of all HR, legal and operational processes.
- Lead the grant application and review processes, work closely with students and researchers to provide funding opportunities and oversee the allocation of bursaries and fellowships to support emerging researchers.
- Collaborate with national and international partners to enhance public engagement in palaeoscience. Support the Science Engagement outreach projects and help promote GENUS as a centre for excellence in palaeoscientific education and research.
- Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including universities, research institutions, government agencies, and private funders. Represent GENUS at conferences, workshops, and other strategic events.
- Contribute to the long-term vision of GENUS by assisting with the development and implementation of strategic initiatives that support the growth of South African palaeoscience on a global stage.
Brief Description
Qualifications & Experience:
- A Masters degree (or higher) in any Science discipline (preferably Palaeoscience).
- Or an MBA or qualifications in Project Management
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in research management, operations, or project management preferably within an academic or research environment.
- Proven experience in grant writing, administration, legal and financial oversight of research projects.
- Excellent communication, organisational, and leadership skills with a track record of effective stakeholder engagement.
- A passion for fostering academic excellence and supporting emerging researchers.
A strong understanding of palaeoscientific research and the South African research funding landscape would be an advantage.
