1. PURPOSE OF ROLE
   The Section Ventilation Officer is responsible for the maintenance of ventilation, refrigeration, and occupational hygiene systems and to provide the Shaft Ventilation Engineer with information to ensure a safe and healthy work environment.
2. WORK OF ROLE
   Ensure that legal requirements, Siyanda Bakgatla Platinum Mine standards and policies are adhered to
   Maintain ventilation and occupational hygiene strategies and systems
   Conduct risk assessments and participate in audits
   Conducts daily ventilation and occupational hygiene inspections and records findings
   Report findings and recommend appropriate interventions
   Management of resources and assets
   Assist in short term ventilation and occupational hygiene planning (6-12 months)
   Contribute to the achievement of the objectives and targets of the ventilation and occupational hygiene department and those of the business area
3. QUALIFICATIONS

• Grade 12
• Chamber of Mines Certificate in Mine Environmental Control

1. EXPERIENCE

• Minimum of 7 years’ experience in the ventilation and occupational hygiene discipline

1. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

• Computer literate in MS Office, Microstation, Delta, and other specialised technical programs

Occupational Hygienist

1. PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
   To design, implement, evaluate, coordinate, and manage occupational hygiene programmes on the mine to meet legal compliance and a safe and healthy working environment, thereby minimizing the mine’s risk of litigation and adverse publicity.
2. WORK OF ROLE
   Ensure that all legal requirements as set out in the legal appointment are addressed and to ensure adherence to all SBPM standards, procedures and policies

• Assess occupational health risks due to identified hazards
• Evaluate those risks
• Recommend control measures to mitigate such risk
• Audit compliance to standards
• Trend analysis of occupational exposure data and linkage of data to occupational groups
• Occupational hygiene objectives and targets
• Education and training of employees on occupational health hazards and risks
• Incident investigation
• Studies to eliminate occupational health hazards and risks
• Linking of occupational exposure to medical surveillance program

1. QUALIFICATIONS

• Grade 12
• Certificate in Mine Environmental Control
• Registered with the Mine Ventilation Society as a Member and / or registered with the South African Institution for Occupational Hygiene (SAIOH) as an Occupational Hygienist
• Diploma / Degree in Occupational Hygiene or Environmental Health – Advantageous
• Certificate in Occupational Hygiene Legal Knowledge – Advantageous

1. EXPERIENCE
   Minimum of 7 years’ experience in the field of occupational hygiene / mine ventilation
2. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

• Data analysis skills
• Presentation / facilitation / training
• Valid driver’s license
• Risk assessment techniques
• In dept knowledge of all relevant Occupational Hygiene legislation
• Management skills commensurate with the position
