DRIVER

The Department of Paediatrics and Child Health is recruiting a Driver for the Drakenstein Child Health Study (DCHS), a birth cohort study based in Paarl. This post will be a full-time 12-month contract post. The incumbent will be based in Paarl and will do trips in and around Paarl and Cape Town.

Requirements include:

  • Grade 12/Matric equivalent
  • In possession of a valid South African Driver’s License
  • Two years’ experience as a Driver (transporting passengers)
  • One year experience driving for a clinical research study
  • Able to navigate and be familiar with Paarl, Cape Town and surroundings
  • Fluent in English and isiXhosa
  • Must be punctual
  • Ability to work under pressure and within time constraints
  • Physical ability to lift and move heavy equipment
  • Good interpersonal, communication and time management skills
  • Must possess a positive and professional attitude, with a customer centric outlook

Responsibilities include:

  • Driving to destinations to drop off and/or collect participants and/or study supplies as instructed by line manager
  • Collecting specimens across Paarl sites and transporting them to Cape Town labs
  • Transporting staff for training/meetings/home visits
  • Adhering to the rules and regulations as provided concerning the use of company vehicles
  • Completing necessary study documentation including daily travel logs, maintenance checklists, and the monthly routine
    spot check forms as prescribed.
  • Establish and maintain good relationships and communication structures with staff onsite
  • Perform any reasonable ad-hoc duties as requested by management

The annual cost of employment, including benefits is between R155 121 and R230 239.

FINANCE ADMINISTRATOR

The University of Cape Town Lung Institute (www.lunginstitute.co.za), requires applications for an experienced FINANCE ADMINISTRATOR* who is proactive and able to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Purpose:
The main purpose of the job is to proactively provide financial administrative support to the Unit. These include support with the finances of the grants, financial planning, budgeting, reporting, preparation of drawdown requests, timesheets and keeping records of what is spent in the different budget categories.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Grade 12 / Matric equivalent (with bookkeeping, accounting or mathematics as subjects)

POST-BASIC PHARMACIST ASSISTANT

The Centre for Lung Infection and Immunity, based at the University of Cape Town Lung Institute (www.lunginstitute.co.za) require applications for a POST-BASIC PHARMACIST ASSISTSANT* on a Fixed Term Contract.

The main purpose of this position is to assist the Pharmacist in managing day-to-day duties within the pharmacy according to South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC), South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA), Pharmacy Guidelines, National Institutes of Health (NIH), Good Clinical and Good Pharmacy Practice Guidelines (GCP and GPP).

Minimum Requirements:

  • Post-basic Pharmacy Assistant Certificate
  • Registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) as a Post-Basic Pharmacist Assistant
  • 1 – 2 years experience as a Post-basic Pharmacist
  • Intermediate computer skills including using Microsoft Office, internet browsers and medical databases
  • Knowledge of Pharmacy Act no. 53 of 1974, Medicines and related substances Act, 1965 (Act no. 101 of 1965)
  • Dispensing and aseptic preparation skills

  • Assist Pharmacist with Administrative and Pharmacy Regulatory Compliance (provide input into and implement

    to South African GPP fro all active studies
  • Ensure the pharmacy is run according to South African pharmacy and research ethical standards
  • Assist with procedures, medications (dosage, frequency, administration), inclusion/exclusion criteria and amendments
  • Assist with Maintaining drug storage, record keeping and inventory control
  • Assist in monitoring/audit visits
  • Regular communication with key staff on studies (medical officers, nurses and sponsors) when necessary
  • Assist in procurement of pharmaceutical products
  • Assist in control of pharmacy stock and repacking of medicine
  • Capture script details accurately, and verify particiapnats details on the system
  • Ensure accurate picking /packing/labelling and checking of medication and be aware of common dosages as well as
    important drug interactions
  • Ensure all medications are checked for accuracy by and signed by a pharmacist.
  • Maintain Pharmacy technical appliances – including maintenance of all pharmacy equipment and calibration of all
    required temperature monitoring devices
  • Assist with financial administrative tasks as required (e.g. prepare drug invoices sourced study medication
    reimbursements from sponsors; ensure drug cost is allocated to correct sponsor; follow up on payments; apply for vat
    exemption, if required.)
  • Perform other research-related duties as assigned

Additional Information:

  • 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday
  • 6 – 12 month fixed term contract

ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT

The Partnerships, Mobility and Recruitment (PMR) section manages both reciprocal and on-reciprocal study abroad (Semester Study Abroad (SSA)) programmes at UCT, providing support services to both incoming SSA students and outbound UCT students, and managing the recruitment, admissions and enrolment processes. In addition, the section is also responsible for the recruitment of all international students and the management of partnerships with other tertiary institutions globally (with the exception of those in Africa).

The main purpose of this position is to provide a full spectrum of administrative support services to the PMR section, working to support partnership approval and the execution of exchange agreements.


We seek to appoint an Administrative Assistant in a permanent capacity to fulfil this key role for appointment commencing as soon as possible.

The Administrative Assistant reports to the Exchange Coordinator.

Requirements:
An appropriate tertiary qualification (NQF level 6) with 2 years’ relevant experience in higher education.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.

Advantageous skills:
A Bachelors degree (NQF 7) or higher would be preferable.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide general office administration and administrative support for all processes relevant to the SSA and
    Exchange programmes.
    Maintain the exchange general email account.
    Liaise with external stakeholders (e.g. exchange partners) and assist in submitting information, nominations, and
    applications.
  • Assist with information sessions and other events for UCT exchange students.
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders to support exchange students through application, selection and curriculum
    alignment (e.g. curriculum advisors, Admissions Office, faculty offices).
    Update and maintain the section’s information platforms including paper-based and digital filing, network drive,
    Microsoft teams, Vula and the marketing materials library.
    Maintain exchange programme information and records in line with standard operating procedures.
    Maintain information platforms for disseminating information about exchange opportunities (e.g. Vula and
    sharepoint).
    Maintain section databases and update information in institutional databases including the student records
    database (PeopleSoft) and the partnership database (CRM).
    Provide administrative support for delegations visiting UCT and for conference travel including visa applications,
    travel and hotel bookings, and information briefings.
    Provide servicing officer support to section meetings and committees.
    Work with other units and departments, using PeopleSoft and CRM to capture data and provide reports.
    Develop a comprehensive understanding of relevant UCT policies, processes and procedures to inform support
    services provided for the (inbound) SSA and outbound exchange programmes.

SEMESTER STUDY ABROAD & PARTNERSHIPS
OFFICER

NETWORK SYSTEMS ENGINEER: WORPLACE SERVICES

Are you experienced in providing intermediate technical infrastructure support for business-critical services and/or infrastructure and have project management experience in a progressive ICT environment, with a strong customer focus and a demonstrable track record of innovative thinking, project-based delivery and productive interactions across multiple teams?

The Enterprise Infrastructure and Services division seeks a Technical Specialist (Networks) to develop infrastructure and services through project work, design, maintain and manage complete systems, support ICT systems, services and infrastructure and provide technical leadership in a complex and heterogeneous systems and infrastructure environment. This is a role which plays a critical part in ensuring that UCT derives value from its investment in IT infrastructure and reports to
a senior manager.

Responsibilities include:

  • Providing highly specialized technical support for business-critical services, systems and/or infrastructure
  • Designing, maintaining, managing and developing of business-critical ICT systems and/or infrastructure service
    components
  • Responsible for developing and implementing infrastructure, systems and services through project work
  • The Systems Engineer reports to a Senior Manager

Minimum requirements include:

  • Relevant qualification at NQF level 6 and 5 years’ experience in enterprise ICT networks and infrastructure of which
    3 years must be relevant current technical hands on experience
