ARTISAN: ELECTRICAL

VACANCY

ARTISAN: ELECTRICAL

TASK Grade 10 (R385 404 – R535 812 per annum)

(Basic salary only, excluding benefits)

Qualifications and experience required:

  • Qualified Electrician.
  • One to two years’ relevant experience.

Key attributes and competencies:

  • Must be physically fit and healthy and able to perform manual operations and duties on foot.
  • Must be able to cope with working under environmental conditions that are physically stressful such as varying temperatures and weather conditions.
  • Must be able to cope with mental stress arising from potential or actual physical threat as work is to be performed in the presence of high voltages and where explosion of switchgear can occur.
  • Sight, speech and hearing ability (colour vision is required for interpreting wiring codes and plant status indication).

Special conditions attached to the position:

A valid Code B driver’s licence.

The successful candidate shall be required to perform standby duties, including working on Saturdays and Sundays.

Job purpose:

Undertaking fault-finding on high, medium and low voltage cables and performing pressure testing on all cable types on the Metro’s cable network. Also carrying out cable tracing and cable identification on all cable types on the Metro’s cable network.

Qualifications and experience required:

  • Qualified Electrician.
  • Three to four years’ relevant experience.

Key attributes and competencies:

  • Must be physically fit and healthy and able to perform manual operations and duties on foot – is required to handle equipment weighing over 20 kg when carrying out switching operations. It is also occasionally required to climb a ladder or high mast structure work in confined spaces or at elevated distances.
  • Must be able to cope with working under environmental conditions that are physically stressful such as varying temperatures and weather conditions.
  • Must be able to cope with mental stress arising from potential or actual physical threat as work is to be performed on live electrical apparatus and in the immediate vicinity of live electrical systems and when supervising the lowering of high mast poles and scaffolding.
  • Ability to meet occasional unforeseen deadlines and to work under pressure during overhead line faults which need to be restored within a limited time. Working overtime and rendering standby duties, as and when required.
  • Sight, speech and hearing ability (test for colour blindness is required).

Special conditions attached to the position:

A valid Code B driver’s licence.

Job purpose: 

Assisting with and supervising the maintenance, installation and repair of electricity supply with respect to street, area and sports field lighting and overhead lines, including repairs to electrical networks in the case of breakdowns.

  • Three years’ relevant experience.

SENIOR CONSERVATION OFFICER (TWO POSITIONS)

(ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT)

Qualifications and experience required:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification (Natural Science or Environmental Management).
  • Registered Peace Officer.
  • Pest Control Certificate.
  • An appropriate valid driver’s licence.

Key attributes and competencies:

  • Proficient oral and written communication skills in English are a prerequisite.
  • Supervisory skills.
  • Knowledge and understanding of laws and bylaws.
  • Ability to handle objects weighing 5 – 50kg.

As part of the selection process, the recommended candidates will be required to undergo a medical examination at the Municipality’s Occupational Health and Safety Division.

Job purpose:

Undertaking, coordinating and directing tasks and activities in designated area associated with the promotion of environmental conservation and ethical usage of natural areas in a sustainable manner through performing duties related to the administration of marine, coastal, reserves and natural areas development of the Municipal Open Space System, promoting and monitoring the biodiversity of the Metro, enforcement of laws and bylaws, development of reserves and natural areas, creating public awareness and performance of related administrative and personnel functions supporting accomplishment of service delivery objectives encapsulated in the Municipality’s Integrated Development Plan.
