PURPOSE OF ROLE
- A critical function of operations SHE Department is to perform the SHE risks and assurance function. This includes the initiation, coordination, implementation and
quality check of operational and strategic risk assessments, Incident Investigations, and audits. The SHE Coordinator Risk Assurance is responsible for the coordination
and conducting of operational risk management program, incident investigations and audits as well as the required reporting on these activities at the operations.
WORK OF ROLE
- Coordinate an operational audit schedule on critical areas to ensure the elimination of fatal incidents, major potential incidents, and high potential incidents (AFRS,
risk assurance, fatal close out, section 54 close out, technical reviews - Formulation of key focus areas, recommendations, trend and data analysis to inform operational risk assurance and system functions
- Implement the required SHE Risk and Assurance system procedures, systems and standards
- Implement, coordinate and conduct SHE risk theme audits and incident investigations
- Plan, Implement and assist in the execution of operational SHE legal compliance assessments
- Provide risk based operational input to operations SHE plans to ensure key focus areas address major risks, audit results, and learning from incidents
- Review and analyse operational incident investigations, risk assessments and audit reports for quality control and to ensure the hierarchy of control is effectively
applied
QUALIFICATIONS
- Grade 12
- Diploma / Degree in Safety / Health / Environment / Mining / Engineering / Metallurgy
- Risk / Hazard / Legislative / Quality Assurance / Auditing Qualifications
- Courses in Safety Management Systems (9001 / 14001 / 18001)
EXPERIENCE
- A minimum of 7 years relevant mining / process / engineering experience which should include developing, implementing, managing, and auditing of SHE and risk control
initiatives and programs - SHE Incident investigation (Loss Causation / ICAM / RCAT / SCAT / AICAT) experience
- Risk Assessment Techniques experience (BOW-TIE, WRAC / SWIFT, HAZOP, FMECA, AFRAD)
- Safety, Occupational Health and Hygiene, Environmental Management
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
- Computer literate (MS Power Point, Word, Excel, Access, and Projects)
- Valid drivers’ license
- Have extensive knowledge and experience in investigating incidents, risk assessments and audits
- A sound understanding of the methodologies and systems required for this role is important
- Lead Auditors courses for SHE Management Systems

persons entering his/her area of responsibility.
