Introduction

The purpose of the role is to ensure that the project related assets and costs are recorded in a manner that ensures accuracy, validity and completeness. It has to be performed in a timely manner in accordance with accounting best practices and JSE policies.

Job description

Responsibilities:

  • Communicates financial performance to program managers and project executives.
  • Review and identify cost-reduction opportunities to reduce JSE business costs that impact JSE business strategy
  • Manages the financial aspects of specific projects, ensuring budgets are adhered to, costs are accurately tracked, and financial reports are prepared, while also providing financial advice to project team
  • Maintain and develop relationships with relevant internal and external stakeholders by sharing information and providing customer service to ensure queries are addressed timeously
  • Build relationships with colleagues, peers and staff by using appropriate interpersonal styles
  • Interact with others in a way that promotes openness and trust and gives them confidence in one’s intentions
  • Primary contact for managing and co-ordinating queries and resolving concerns of external auditors and internal auditors with regard to the JSE Group
  • To provide business partnering and support to teams, including providing technical finance assistance and taking part in monthly meetings.
  • Ensure accuracy and disclosures in the statutory reporting to ensure no material audit finding results that will impact the JSE business strategy in line with standards and regulations
  • Provide regular analysis of reports to internal stakeholders by communicating with stakeholders to meet stakeholder requirements
  • Implement financial process system controls through implementation and development of financial targets and automation of processes to minimise financial risks
  • Adhere to accounting policies and procedures for all areas of responsibility by maintaining a documented system
  • Perform back-office function, support and recons.
  • Provide absence cover within the finance team to ensure continuity of services
  • Analyse and understand actual data within the accounting records to ensure completeness, accuracy and validity of the financial statements
  • Support the Financial Manager in attending promptly to all queries during project and statutory audits.
  • Support Project Office in preparing project financials in accordance with approved project budget and the progress of the respective projects
  • Ensure accruals and vendor invoices are communicated at month-end to relevant financial accountants to raise accruals
  • Reviewing and posting monthly accruals, journal reallocations journals
  • Signing off balance sheet recons for work in progress, clearing accounts and capitalised projects.
  • Manage own delivery against agreed deliverables and set timelines, identify obstacles to delivery and take appropriate action where required
  • Provide input into formalisation of the Finance Department’s divisional budget and assist in the coordination and consolidation thereof in order to ensure that the information provided meet the expectation of the finance team
  • Ensure accuracy of SOP’s and RACM’s for audit review
  • Ensure month end reporting deadlines are adhered to
Minimum requirements

The JSE requires the following qualifications and experience:

Minimum Qualification

  • BCom Accounting degree
  • Postgraduate Accounting degree preferred

Minimum Experience

  • 3-5 years in a contract management function or similar responsibilities and a good understanding of the processes
