Mine Overseer

Job description

MAIN TASK AND RESPONSIBILITY
The Mine Overseer is responsible for ensuring efficient and safe operations within his/her area of responsibility through effective management of safety, efficiency, labour, quality, budget, compliance and reporting. The role of a Mine Overseer is pivotal in ensuring the seamless operation of mining activities. This position requires a blend of technical expertise, leadership skills, and a deep understanding of mining processes.

Miner Drill and Blast

Introduction

ASSMANG Pty Ltd requires the services of a Miner at their Black Rock Mine Operations situated 80km North-West of Kuruman in the Northern Cape. MAIN TASK AND RESPONSIBILITY To perform mining activities required for rock breaking underground hard rock operations in order to achieve production targets and quality according to mine standards and procedures

Job description

  • Attend Connect meeting with shift boss, the team and plan daily activities. 
  • Conduct pre- and post-start inspection of LDV and operate LDV in accordance with safety standards.
  • Conduct re-entry examination and declare area to the workplace as safe for roof preparation and roof bolting. Know and exercise safety pillars
  • Allocate water down (dust allying) to Support Worker and ensure that it is done properly. Where necessary, assist the Support Worker in the execution of duties.
  • Take wet and dry bulb temperatures and air velocity measurements and record in safe declaration.
  • Instruct and supervise Support Worker Roof and Face Prep to perform barring operation in preparing the roof and to make safe. If Support Worker Roof and Face Prep is not available, perform barring operation and / or allocate barring operations to competent Support Workers. 
  • Examine side walls for misfires and treat where required.
  • Identify misfired explosives and explosive accessories and secure in appropriate old explosive boxes (cartridges / detonators). At end of shift, hand boxes over to Miner Charging and Blasting.  
  • Instruct Support Worker to install and operate pumps (air / electric submersible water pump)
  • Instruct Support Worker Roof and Face Prep to smooth out road way with scaler. If Support Worker Roof and Face Prep is not available, perform smooth out operation and / or allocate smooth out operations to competent support workers. 
  • Mark roof lines by drawing in survey line as per survey note, draw in block lines.
  • Mark holes for roof bolts on block grid as well as holes for services / eye bolts. 

Minimum requirements

  • Certificate: Grade 12
  • Certificate: Blasting Ticket for Scheduled Mines
  • 4 Years’ experience as a underground C1 Miner in most of the disciplines (roof / face prep, charging and blasting)
  • Valid Code B/EB Driver’s License
  • Must obtain symbol B at Dover Assessment

Fitter Shaft and Winders

Introduction

Prepare, maintain and operate production equipment. Maintain and repair mechanical and hydraulic systems and equipment. Conduct daily and weekly inspection on Winders as per MHSA and regulations

Job description

  • Complete daily inspection checklists for tools, equipment and work areas. Report problems and make recommendations to Supervisors.
  • Conduct fitting work which supports maintenance, diagnostics, repairs and installations of mechanical equipment per work orders and breakdown work orders. Consider direct environment risks.

Rigger

Introduction

Assemble and install rigging gear to lift, lower and position equipment or material in the manufacturing plant and shafts. Conduct legal inspections as per MHSA and Regulations on lifting equipment and Winders. Operate the mobile cranes.

  • Expedite rigging according to situation’s demand and can include de-mantling of equipment; replacement of new parts or components or machines.

The role demands result focus, change leadership, relationship building and people leadership.

EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS

10 Years’ engineering-maintenance experience in mining

Operator Multi Skilled Load Haul Dump and Trucks

  • Operate LHD or Dump Truck as per operational requirements to execute the Load and Haul shift plan.
  • Operate the assigned equipment efficiently to maximize utilization and minimize wastage and lost time /ideal time. For a specific shift, operate the vehicle allocated by the shift supervisor in accordance with SOP’s.
  • Conduct inspections on production machinery and vehicles and report deviations via the vehicle pre-and-post start checklist.
