MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB

To provide a professional agriculture, economics and technical specialist service to support the Province in effectively evaluating the business case viability of financing customers, including conducting on-site visits to familiarize the Bank with the business operations in which the Bank will be investing its funds, with the additional objective of minimizing potential risks and financial losses.

Provide specialist support to Bankers to enable the structuring of appropriate financial solutions and feasible transactions.
Determine the development phase of the farming venture and conditions of the infrastructure, management skills, topography, accessibility, development potential of the farm, grazing component and carrying capacity and any other relevant general conditions.
Responsible for conducting the required valuation of the entity’s assets through an on-site visit to the business property to evaluate the viability of financing customers, based on the strength of their assets.
Inspect crops on the land and calculate the net realisation and impact on financial position.
Determine the realisable value of movable assets, and identify and locate the security offered.

  1. Provincial Agricultural Knowledge Database and Knowledge Sharing

Keep the database up to date as appropriate and share at a divisional level
Contribute information to the national agricultural specialists’ database
Ensure availability and access to identified users.
Transfer knowledge to the team to empower them in understanding the technical context.

  1. Customer and Stakeholder Relationship Management

Build, foster and maintain consistent, effective and strong relationships with key role players and strengthen relationships with the potential to secure new business opportunities for the bank.

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB

To find innovative commercial restructuring solutions for Banking clients identified as in need of a proactive intervention to mitigate risk and prevent or minimise losses.

To give technical expertise using the turnaround methodologies to develop, implement and monitor business rescue plan.

Key Performance Areas

Assume a portfolio management responsibility for allocated Banking clients that have been transferred to Workout and Restructuring Unit.
Engage internal stakeholders such as the Banking, Credit team, Legal and collections teams to obtain an understanding of the client and the client’s business.
Obtain all the necessary and required information to conduct a full diagnostic analysis and undertake a preliminary due diligence and recommend procuring an external due diligence where necessary and justifiable.

  1. Manage the implementation of the approved restructure of customer accounts

Engage clients, all relevant internal and external stakeholders on the outcome of the restructure proposal.
Negotiate an equitable deal considering the Bank’s interest.
Gather all the necessary documents required in drafting the new agreements.
Provide input to the drafting of loan agreements, equity agreements and security documents in collaboration with the Legal Team and in line with the approved Terms and Conditions by the various Credit Committees.
Issue the client with signed agreements.

  1. Monitoring and Evaluation of restructured customer accounts

Monitor all accounts within given portfolio to ensure that desired results are achieved pertaining to the approved turnaround and performance and ensure that all subsequent terms and conditions of approval are met.
Obtain management information from client within prescribed timelines, analyse and engage clients regarding performance variances ensuring that action plans are in place to close the gaps of any negative variances.
Provide regular (as prescribed) performance status update for each client and represent the account at the various governance structures (EXCO, Credit Committee or Board).
Provide portfolio and client information to Finance Division for consideration in impairment calculation.

  1. Provide advisory services to internal and external stakeholders where required

Provide advice and guidance to the collections teams and the Banking team with respect to the identification of client accounts that should be flagged for a workout intervention based on lessons learnt in managing high risk clients.
Participate in the reviewing of policies and procedures where workout and restructuring subject expertise may be required.
Accompany Banking team members on request to client meetings to provide support and expert opinion on possible workout and restructuring related issues, processes and procedures.
Attend internal and external forums at request where subject expertise is required on turnaround, workout and restructuring matters.

  1. Record Keeping and Reporting

In consultation with Client Administration, Performance Analytics and Reporting, ensure that client information is managed in terms of the Bank’s record management policy.
Compile reports as required for the different governance structures and management.
Ensure that client’s information is updated on the relevant systems as and when required in collaboration with the Specialist: Client Administration.

Compile and send thirty days rolling cash flow projection to NT on a daily basis; and

Subject to investor appetite and market developments, adjust the type of funding instrument, maturity buckets and develop new funding instruments where applicable; and

The Land and Agricultural Development Bank of South Africa (Land Bank) is South Africa’s only specialist agricultural bank established in 1912, the bank’s sole objective is to serve South African commercial and emerging farmers and bring specially designed financial services within their reach. These services enable farmers to finance land, equipment, improve assets and obtain production credit. The Land Bank provides financial services that have moved with the times and continues to provide services to agri-business and constantly reviews its offerings to ensure that they match the needs of an industry. As change has swept across the sector in South Africa the socio-economic makeup of agriculture has altered, bringing new entrants from historically disadvantaged backgrounds on to the land, these new farmers, facing the challenges of establishing sustainable agri-businesses across the agricultural value chain, Land Bank has been a commercial lifeline offering appropriately designed financial products that facilitate personal and commercial viability in a sector that is vital to the sustainability of South Africa and its people.

Main Purpose

To provide support to farmers beyond financing, through the implementation of grower programmes and the provision of technical support to farmers, within the context of partnership programmes.

Key Performance Areas

  1. Grower Programme Development

Develops Grower Programmes for farmers, within the ambit of partnership programmes; for specified commodities.
Partners with Credit Risk and Agricultural Economics and Advisory to determine commodities where the Bank has financing appetite in order to prioritize Grower Programmes
Establishes relationships with off-takers and leverages their expertise and the market networks to support the growth and success of farmers.
Identifies and selects supplier aggregators based on set criteria to create market access for and to support the development of low-scale farmers.
Ensures that grower programmes enable sustainable farming practices, manage stakeholder interests and enable market access.
Makes data-led decisions regarding resource deployment and continuous improvement of grower programmes

  1. Grower Programme Capacitation

Recruits farmers to grower programmes by using a development and merit-based process for farmer selection.
Builds a pipeline of qualifying grower programme participants, to ensure the long-term continuity and viability of programmes.
Works collaboratively to leverage the Bank’s marketing capabilities to create market awareness of grower programmes and success stories via digital, social and traditional media channels.
Effectively maps stakeholders and formulates comprehensive plans to engage and consult community leaders and relevant authorities where required.
Develops robust systems for collecting, tracking and analysing data pertaining to grower programs and farmer data.

  1. Farmer Development

Works collaboratively across functions within the bank to establish and develop programmes and content input for the Land Bank Farmer Academy.
Ensures that grower programmes provide structured market access to farmers to increase trading volumes while simultaneously achieving significant social impact with regard to development farmers
Selects and implements organizational models that enable high levels of farmer-partnership interaction to build trust, while transferring knowledge and skills to ensure the long-term viability and sustainability of farmers enrolled in grower programmes.
Facilitates increased private sector investment in developing farmers; promoting sustainable sourcing practices through strategic procurement linkages that are commercially viable for Land Bank.
Puts structures in place to support farmers in meeting the compliance, governance and contractual obligations applicable to grower programmes and strategic partnership agreements.

  1. Farmer Development Project Management, Monitoring and Evaluation

Develops models for monitoring of development farmers’ projects.
Encourage comprehensive risk management strategies within grower programs, emphasizing the importance of adopting insurance solutions provided by LBI.
Manages varied projects including status reporting and program management across multiple projects.
Develops and maintains effective interface across business areas to understand the business transformation agenda, priorities and delivery needs.
Ensures compliance with governance practices, standards and architectural standards in the delivery of grower programmes and farmer pre and post-support initiatives.

  1. People Management

Performance Management

Ensure the overall team is meeting their targets as prescribed by the Head.
Monitor manager’s achievements against their development plans.
Provide inputs to head on performance tracking and monitoring of managers.
Participate in performance reviews with the head.
Provide coaching and feedback to subordinates.
Capacity Planning

Determine the human resource requirements, in accordance with the expected deliverables and current capacity.
Set out the resourcing and human capital requirements to the head to ensure that deliverables will be met in accordance with the expected targets.
Minimise staff turnover.
Lead the subordinates in such a manner as to foster innovation.
Demonstrate behaviour aligned to the corporate Land Bank values.
Equitable distribution of responsibilities and accountabilities and plan appropriate human capacity and full utilisation for projects under management.

Preferred Minimum Education and Experience
Degree in Commerce / Science / Agriculture
A minimum of 7 years experience at management level.
A minimum of 3 years experience in the development and implementation of grower programmes.
