UCT TRANSPORT DRIVER (13 VACANCIES)

The P&S Department invites applications for the above for appointment as soon as possible. This position is to drive students and staff between UCT Campuses, residences and shuttle stops. The successful candidate shall report to the Operations Manager.

Requirements include:

  • A Grade 12 certificate or NQF level 4 qualification
  • 5 years’ relevant bus driving experience in the Passenger Transport Industry
  • An unendorsed South African Driver’s license – Code C or EC
  • A valid professional driver’s permit (PrDP)
  • Customer focus with good communication skills.
  • An ability to work in a team and under pressure.
  • The incumbent will be required to work shifts.

Advantageous

  • Being in possession of an Advanced driving certificate

Your duties will include, but are not necessarily restricted to:

  • Driving UCT students and staff and visitors on and between campuses / residence as per waybill system.
  • Applying defensive techniques when driving.
  • Ensuring that the vehicles you use are kept in a clean, tidy, and road-worthy condition always.
  • Complying with the rules and regulations of the National Road Traffic Agency.
  • Attend to and report emergency situations regarding shuttle operations.
  • Providing excellent face-to-face customer service to clients.
  • Other related duties that may be allocated to you.

The annual cost of employment, including benefits, is between R244,979 and R288,206

IT SERVICE DESK CONSULTANT

INFORMATION & COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY SERVICES (ICTS)

Customer Services (CSD) is a division of the Information & Communication Technology Services (ICTS) department. The division is responsible for the IT Service Desk, student computer lab management services, IT installations, classroom support services, service level agreements, training, and communicating with the University community on behalf of ICTS. The IT Service Desk offers phone
services (including the University’s switchboard) as well as desktop support for UCT staff and students.

We are looking for a dynamic, motivated, and organized person to join our IT Service Desk team to support staff and students with their ICT needs both telephonically and onsite. This is a contract position until the end of February 2026.

Responsibilities include:

  • Capturing support requests
  • Researching and providing accurate and comprehensive solutions to customers via telephone and onsite.
  • Participating in team projects, as well as research and development of services and products.
  • Coach and mentor junior colleagues

Minimum requirements include:

  • Grade 12 or a technical equivalent
  • Current A+ (not older than 3 years), Microsoft or Apple MAC certification or equivalent qualification
  • 2 years in a customer-focused IT support position
  • An unendorsed 08 driver’s license

Skills required:

  • Excellent working knowledge of the use of common IT hardware and software applications
  • Strong customer service ethic
  • Excellent problem-solving skills for Microsoft and Apple Mac
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills
  • Business and technical writing skills
  • Ability to coach and mentor junior colleagues

The annual remuneration package, including benefits, is between R324 783 and R514 000 per annum

GARDENING SUPERVISOR

The Gardening Supervisor is responsible for the daily operations of Grounds & Gardens’ Horticultural and landscape management Services, and for directing the teams of staff reporting to them, as instructed by the Operations Manager. Duties include, amongst others, allocating tasks to teams reporting to them, quality assurance, and customer and client service. Garden Supervisors have a major responsibility to ensure that subordinates under them adhere to the correct maintenance protocols and best horticultural
practice and service delivery to ensure that the campus is kept in a pristine manner.

Requirements:

  • Grade 10 with 3 years of Supervisory experience
  • Computer literacy, Word, email
  • Experience in ground maintenance operations, including the use and maintenance of irrigation, horticultural and specialized
    landscaping equipment
  • The ability to operate power equipment like trimmers, chainsaws, weed-eaters, blowers, and other tools required for
    gardening
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety compliance relating to horticulture and landscaping development
  • Adaptability / Flexibility, Building interpersonal relationships
  • A valid South African driver’s licence.

Advantageous:

  • Practical horticultural experience supported by appropriate qualifications in the field.
  • Knowledge of horticultural techniques covering a wide range of plant types, including invasive alien vegetation and
    heritage trees.

Responsibilities:

  • Create a great campus environment, build, and develop a successful garden team
  • Ensure that the landscape vision for the campus is not fundamentally altered from the original architectural or planting
    design.
  • Assist with implementing agreed planting and maintenance programs to develop the grounds and gardens across all
    campuses
  • Ensure that the campus is always kept in a pristine manner in accordance with the specifications and standards
    laid down by the University Horticulturist.
  • Problem solving, building partnerships, creativity and innovation, decision-making, judgement, managing conflict,
    planning and organizing, work management, work standards, resilience, tenacity, result-driven, and safety
    awareness.
  • Supervise subordinates under them to adhere to the correct maintenance regime and best horticultural practice, and
    service delivery, including regular inspections
  • Work collaboratively with the wider University campus community, i.e., Academic and Pass staff
  • Regular maintenance, repairs, and installation of irrigation systems through inspection of the entire system and
    escalating to the Operations Manager.

The annual cost of employment, including benefits, is between R276,959 to R325,831 p.a.
