Job Description

The Senior Manager will be a key member of a highly skilled team of technical and commercial experts responsible for overseeing Bayobab’s Communication Platforms business. This role focuses on the commercial management of International Wholesale Mobility services, specifically International roaming, ensuring these services deliver maximum financial value to Bayobab and MTN Operating companies (OpCos), while maintaining exceptional service quality.

The Senior Manager will ensure strong alignment across business units, enabling OpCos to benefit from centralized control, streamlined management, and optimized pricing strategies.

The Senior Manager will also proactively contribute to Bayobab’s transition to next-gen communication platforms, supporting the integration of services such as CPaaS, IoT, and API monetization where applicable.

Responsibilities

The Senior Manager – Communication Platforms Roaming Sales is responsible for leading the commercial success of Bayobab’s Communication Platforms Business line, with a focus on international Roaming. This role ensures the delivery of high-value services to MTN Operating companies (OpCos) and external partners, while driving revenue growth, creating affordability, operational efficiency, and strategic alignment across the Group.


Key Responsibilities

Leadership & People Management

Commercial Strategy & Execution

  • Lead the execution of Bayobab’s Communication Platforms strategy within International Roaming.
  • Own and manage the roaming heat map, Group arrangements, and partner negotiations.
  • Maintain strong relationships with key customers and partners to meet pricing, volume, and quality targets.
  • Oversee the full lifecycle of Mobility Services, including account management and sales execution.
  • Govern all commercial activities including pricing agreements, marketing initiatives, and sales deals.

Financial & Operational Oversight

  • Contribute to financial planning and KPI setting for Communication Platforms services. 
  • Monitor and report on commercial performance, identifying gaps and implementing corrective strategies.
  • Ensure accurate reconciliations and revenue collections from OpCos. 
  • Drive improvements in the quote-to-cash cycle, including billing, collections, and settlements. 

Strategic Alignment & Market Leadership 

  • Define and adapt strategies to sustain Roaming revenues and reduce costs. 
  • Ensure Bayobab remains competitive through continuous evaluation of market pricing and carrier offerings.
  • Collaborate with other wholesale business units to strengthen Bayobab’s market leadership. 
  • Represent Bayobab at global conferences, customer visits, and industry workshops. 

Compliance & Industry Engagement 

  • Stay informed on legal and regulatory changes across MTN territories. 
  • Ensure Bayobab’s readiness to respond to regulatory shifts affecting Roaming. 
  • Track global technology trends and standardization efforts relevant to Roaming.

  • Budget Planning – Revenue, Margin Growth & Cost reduction 
  • Expansion of Roaming Partnerships and Roaming footprint – via Bayobab’s Roaming Hub 
  • Negotiate discount Roaming and Roaming Hub agreements with Roaming Partners – create affordability, reduce roaming gaps & create opportunities for new products 
  • Contribution to Innovation Initiatives – Input into Bayobab’s roadmap for new revenue generating services (e.g., CPaaS, Sponsored Roaming, Multi-IMSI, 5G roaming). 
  • KPI Governance – Establish and manage clear KPIs across revenue, margin, volume, and footprint growth, supported by real-time dashboards or BI tools.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Minimum 4 Year Academic degree (in Engineering, Computer Science or Business Administration) 
  • Master’s degree in Engineering or Computer Science or in Business Administration as an advantage 
  • English, French and Arabic (as advantage)

Experience: 

  • 7+ years in relevant experience in the International Roaming space 
  • 5+ years managerial experience preferably within the Telecommunication industry

Competencies: 

  • Extensive knowledge and deep understanding of the International Roaming business in regards to latest industry trends and competitive landscape for minimum 7 years
  • Understanding of GSMA standards (e.g., TAP, BCE, VoLTE, 5G Roaming) and key industry programs  (e.g.,Open Connectivity, RAEX). 
  • Familiarity with CPaaS platforms, API exposure, and network monetization strategies (desirable). 
  • Effectively manage processes and solutions to maximize efficient work within his business unit
  • Innovative thinking to identify whitespace opportunities, co-create services with partners, and enhance operational or commercial performance.

General Manager – Risk and Compliance Sanctions and Export Controls

Job Description

MTN is operating in a complex and ever-changing business environment. This role will provide robust 2nd line assurance of the MTN business operating in, as well as being managed from, the MTN UAE office, as well as the MTN business in the region. There are currently ongoing operations in Afghanistan, Iran and Sudan, a fast-growing wholesale, sea cable and fibre operation, as well as MTN Group’s central Global Sourcing and Supply Chain (GSSC) operation, both head quartered in Dubai. The role will work with respective management teams in building a risk and compliance culture in the operations, through the Group R&C frameworks. 

The role will also design, build, and operate a Partner and Trade Compliance (PTC) function within MTN Group Risk and Compliance. This is a strategically important function in three key areas; 

  1. provide assurance that MTN’s key Business Partners as well as MTN itself are operating in accordance with regulations and expectations in the areas of ABC, Conflicts of Interest, Data Privacy, Economic Sanctions, Embargoes, Export Controls, and ESG (Subject Areas); 
  2. act as a subject matter expert function and adviser in the areas of Economic Sanctions, Embargoes and Export Control; and 
  3. be a single point of contact in managing MTN responses to Business Partner’s Subject Area Questionnaires. 

The Partner and Trade Compliance (PTC) function will work for MTN Group Manco and all OpCos towards the successful design, implementation, and embedment of an adequate PTC framework intended to assure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and requirements in the Subject Areas. This PTC framework shall in the MTN ecosystem be applied to MTN Group and its Group functions, MTN OpCos, entities majority owned by MTN such as FinCo, FibreCo and similar entities (to the extent MTN Group has management control).

Responsibilities

The GM: Region, Partner and Trade Compliance will work towards the following objectives:

  • Provide Group R&C 2nd line assurance on MTN OpCos in the region, currently MTN Afghanistan, MTN Irancell (high-level oversight), MTN Sudan, as well as MTN GlobalConnect and GSSC.
  • Provide Group R&C 2nd line assurance on the Middle East Exit announced by MTN Group Aug 2020.
  • Provide Group R&C 2nd line assurance on separation and other mega-projects as directed by management.
  • Design an MTN Group wide, adequate and effective Partner and Trade Compliance framework for second line assurance of MTN compliance in the Subject Areas to be operationalised and rolled out to all MTN OpCos. This will be done in accordance with MTN Group Compliance Methodology and includes enabling a Compliance Universe, Compliance Risk Management Plans, Monitoring and Testing of controls.
  • Be the Center of Excellence and Advisory officer to MTN Group Manco and all OpCos in all Subject Areas owned by Risk and Compliance. Act as cross-functional collaborative coordinator with the functional owners of the other Subject Areas, such as Conflict of Interest, ESG, etc to strive for MTN having a comprehensive best industry practice aligned approach
  • Ensure and follow up on MTN awareness and accountability in Subject Areas owned by Group R&C by training and awareness sessions, oversight and monitoring
  • Be the subject matter expert on sanctions and embargoes, international export controls, cross-border trade regulations, implementation of relevant export control business processes, and international export compliance.
  • Be the focal point in the response to incoming Business Partner Compliance Questionnaires on Subject Areas. As such, represent MTN and coordinate the MTN response to inquiries from MTN Business Partners.
  • Create and manage a program in requesting key Business Partners to respond to MTN Compliance Questionnaires on Subject Areas as well as initiate and oversee assessments of Business Partners’ Compliance Programs in Subject Areas, reviewing their adequacy and effectiveness
  • Perform Sanctions and Export Control advisory Key Business Areas and Key Projects (Hyperscalers, cloud-based platform marketplaces, Hub & Spoke Delivery models, SAS, etc)
  • Provide key Sanctions and Export Control regulation monitoring, Sanctions and Export Control risk analysis and Sanctions screening
  • Be an MTN internal service provider of Due Diligence and Background checks of Business Partners and individuals (IAFS investigations and Supplier onboarding excluded)

  • Admitted attorney / advocate / auditor will be an advantage
  • Fluent in English, if coupled with French and/or Arabic will be an advantage

Mission/ Core purpose of the Job

The General Manager Data Centre Programme will be responsible for the overall programme management of Bayobab Group’s data centre projects from inception to completion. Reporting directly to the CEO, this individual will lead the design, implementation, and optimization of data centres and ensure that all projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget. The role requires a highly strategic and results-driven leader capable of managing multidisciplinary teams, working with senior leadership, and influencing key stakeholders to ensure alignment with business objectives.

Project Leadership & Management

  • Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of data centre projects, ensuring alignment with Bayobab’s overall business strategy and goals.
  • Develop and maintain detailed project plans, timelines, and budgets for all data centre projects.
  • Ensure the adherence to project management best practices, quality standards, and safety regulations.
  • Identify and manage project risks, issues, and dependencies, providing timely resolution and updates to the CEO and other senior leaders.
  • Monitor project performance and generate detailed progress reports for the CEO and other key stakeholders.
  • Act as the main point of contact for all data centre project stakeholders, ensuring clear communication and understanding of expectations.
  • Lead the integration of green building practices, energy-efficient technologies, and sustainability standards (such as LEED or BREEAM certifications) in the design and operation of data centres.
  • Continuously explore and implement innovative solutions for data centre optimization, including advancements in cooling, security, automation, and energy management.
  • Ensure data centre initiatives are in line with corporate finance and capital allocation strategies.
  • Ensure all data centre projects comply with industry standards, regulations, and certifications such as Uptime Institute Tier Ratings, ISO certifications, data protection laws, and security compliance standards (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA).
  • Oversee the development of disaster recovery plans and ensure that data centre infrastructure is resilient and capable of maintaining operations during unforeseen disruptions.

Team Management

  • Lead, mentor, and develop project teams, ensuring effective collaboration and high performance.

  • Ensure data centre projects adhere to industry standards, regulatory requirements, and best practices in terms of power, cooling, connectivity, and security.
  • Implement green initiatives and sustainable practices in the design and operation of data centres.

Budget & Resource Management

  • Develop and manage project budgets, ensuring resources are allocated effectively and efficiently.
  • Approve and manage procurement processes, ensuring all project materials, tools, and resources are obtained in a timely manner.
  • Monitor costs and adjust project scope, timeline, and resources as needed to stay within budgetary constraints.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Liaise directly with the CEO and other executive leaders to provide updates, report progress, and escalate issues where necessary.
  • Present business cases, budgets, and progress reports to key stakeholders, including the CEO and other senior leadership teams.
  • Ensure stakeholder expectations are managed, and communication remains clear, transparent, and aligned with business objectives.

Role Deliverables

  • Develop and execute a multi-year roadmap for Data Centre implementation and expansion, ensuring alignment with business growth objectives.
  • Manage the CAPEX & OPEX Budget for data centre business deployment, optimizing OPEX and CAPEX efficiency while scaling revenue streams.
  • Lead strategic engagements with hyperscalers, cloud service providers, AI/ML firms, and enterprise customers.
  • Ensure timely execution of data centre deployment, expansion, upgrades, and service rollouts by driving a structured, milestone-based delivery framework.

Qualifications

Job Requirements 
(Education, Experience and Competencies)

Education:

  • Minimum 4-years bachelor’s degree in engineering, Project Management, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • A master’s degree in project management, Business Administration, or a similar discipline is preferred.
  • A PMP (Project Management Professional) or equivalent certification is preferred. LEED or other green building certifications are highly desirable. 
  • A certification in data centre management (e.g., CDCP – Certified Data Centre Professional) is also a plus.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in managing complex infrastructure projects and programmes, with at least 5 years focused on data centres.
  • Experience managing complex data centre projects across diverse regions is an advantage, especially in markets where Bayobab operates or plans to expand.
  • Proven experience in leading large-scale projects in data centre design, construction, and operations.
  • Strong experience with project management methodologies, including Agile, Waterfall, and Hybrid models.
  • Familiarity with industry standards such as Uptime Institute Tier Ratings, ISO certifications, and LEED for sustainability.

Competencies:

  • Strong project management skills, including scope definition, risk management, scheduling, and resource allocation.
  • A solid understanding of cybersecurity risks and best practices related to data centre infrastructure, ensuring that the design and operations align with data security protocols.
  • Excellent leadership and team management abilities, with the ability to motivate cross-functional teams to achieve project objectives.
