The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating interpreting, translations, editing and Hansard reporting services. Also responsible for performing operational and human capital supervisory roles, coaching and mentoring of Senior language Practitioners

Job Requirements
To qualify, you must have: Applicants should have a Grade 12 or NQF Level 4 plus a 3-year Bachelor’s Degree or related qualification in Languages with applicable majors at NQF Level 7. Qualification transcripts to be included. A relevant experience of which 3 years must include the supervisory/quality control of the work of team members within the Languages, Translation, Editing, Transcribing and/or Interpreting environment.

You must also demonstrate: • Proficiency in English and one other official language • Knowledge of legislative process • Knowledge of parliamentary policies and procedures • Understanding of the Labour Relations Act • Supervisory & Leadership skills • Operational planning and project management skills • Computer literacy • Good communication skills; verbal and written skills in English and other official languages • Excellent transcript skills • Simultaneous and consecutive interpreting skills • Excellent translating, editing and proof-reading skills • Excellent attention to detail • Thorough knowledge of Hansard procedural aspects • Knowledge of and experience in the latest language technologies • Good planning and organising skills • Interpersonal skills • Keen interest in current affairs • Ability to work under pressure • Meeting tight deadlines • Expected to work beyond normal working hours • Required to travel for parliamentary work across the country The nature of the environment requires the Control Language Practitioner to work unusual and flexible working hours aligned to Parliament’s needs.

  • Master’s degree in international relations/ political science/ political studies/ Law/ Economics (NQF Level 9) and/or relevant qualification – A minimum of 8 years relevant experience of which 5 years must be managerial experience. – This position is subject to a 6 months’ probation period.
