Room Attendant

A vacancy currently exists for one (1) Room Attendant at Agulhas National Park. The successful candidate will have to be a highly motivated individual with the necessary skills and experience and will report to the Duty Manager. The successful candidate will be required to reside outside the park and will be responsible for their own transport to and from the workplace.

  • Grade 12 (Matric) / NCV level 4 or equivalent.
  • 1-2 years practical work experience in public cleaning/ tourism environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform cleaning duties in and around chalets and guest facilities, including bed linen changes, floor cleaning (sweeping, mopping, vacuuming), furniture polishing, and waste removal, in line with cleanliness standards.
  • Clean public areas such as reception, restrooms, and walkways, and report abnormalities (e.g., damages, spillages) to the supervisor for corrective action.
  • Monitor and control inventory items, ensuring prescribed stock levels of guest amenities, linen, and cleaning supplies are maintained in all units.
  • Report all maintenance issues promptly in accordance with the established standard operating procedures.
  • Maintain high service quality standards and participate in continuous improvement initiatives as directed.
  • Manage and respond to guest expectations and basic needs promptly and courteously within scope of duties.
  • Use effective interpersonal skills to respond to and anticipate guest needs in a timely, courteous, and professional manner.
  • Consistently adhere to established hospitality service standards.
  • Handle lost and found items according to standard operating procedures and report them to the supervisor.
  • Organize and prioritize daily tasks to ensure timely and efficient completion of cleaning and housekeeping duties.
  • Assist with laundry duties including collection, sorting, bagging, and storage of linen, as per procedure.
  • Comply with all health and safety procedures, including use of PPE, chemical handling, and hygiene protocols.
  • Maintain daily control over cleaning materials issued and uphold high standards of cleanliness in all duties.
  • Follow daily procedures for handling, distributing, and storing clean linen.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor the implementation of the APPs and divisional AOPs, against set deliverables.
  • Manage the early warning system and reporting between divisions and EXCO.
  • Compile and distribute business performance information to relevant parties internally and externally.
  • Coordinate attendance and reporting of working groups and reports to Minmec.
  • Provide support in the planning, preparation, organising, and execution of business performance planning sessions.

  • Ensure that the internal audit provides quarterly assessments on the APP.
  • Ensure that audit findings from the AG and internal audit are tracked per division and corrective actions are undertaken.

Project Manager- Fixed-Term Contract (Ending March 2027)

Senior Manager: Science (Based in Kimberley)

A position currently exists for a Senior Manager within the Arid Research Unit of Scientific Services, based in Kimberley. The main function of a Senior Manager fulfils a highly critical role of informing ecological research and strategic guidance on plant ecology and overseeing a variety of ecological research and monitoring, data collection and collating, and an understanding of how ecological systems operate.

The Senior Manager provide leadership in research and strategic direction that strengthens evidence-based conservation within SANParks and contributes to broader conservation science policy makers. The role focuses on generating and sharing high-quality scientific knowledge, mentorship, and ensuring that research findings influence policy and management practice.

The incumbent will be based in Kimberley working in a multi-disciplinary research team and although the Arid parks are the core focus, travel and support of other national parks is expected. The incumbent must interact with various stakeholders, process information needs and engage in joint problem solving, critical analysis and mutual learning.

Requirements

  • A PhD (or equivalent) in a relevant biological field is required.
  • 5–7 years of experience in a relevant research or science-related environment following their doctorate.
  • Ability to demonstrate a portfolio of peer-reviewed publications, written and verbal science communication.
  • Sound knowledge of and background in ecosystem research, monitoring, and management, including in-depth knowledge of conservation practices and principles with an emphasis on adaptive management approaches.
  • Strategic influence on policy and management decisions, and long-term impact across the organisation and broader conservation sector, with responsibilities aligned to expert-level knowledge, stakeholder engagement, and research integration at a high level.
  • Good people management skills, an excellent networker and communicator.
