TRACTOR DRIVER

The ARC seeks to appoint a highly skilled, experienced, and dynamic person to the following position at Tropical & Subtropical Crops (ARC-TSC) Nelspruit, Mpumalanga

Job Description
  • Work on a tractor with various implements such as bush cutter, slasher, spraying machine etc.
  • Ensure that soil cultivation is done accurately, timeously and in a professional manner.
  • Safe transportation of farm produce, fertilizers and other farm equipment.
  • Basic maintenance of the tractor and implements.
  • Time management with execution of individual & team tasks.
  • Record keeping of day-to-day work done, diesel usage and spraying programs.
  • Assist with general farm work as instructed by the line manager.
  • Comply with all requirements of the OHSE Act.
Job Requirements
  • Grade 10 with at least 1-3 years’ experience as a tractor driver.
  • Grade 12 with tractor driving experience will be an added advantage.
  • Good reading and writing skills.
  • Valid code 10 (C1) driver’s license.
  • Willing to do a tractor driving competency test during the interview process.

The ARC seeks to appoint a highly skilled, experienced and dynamic person to the following position(s) at Vegetable, Industrial and Medicinal Plants (ARC-VIMP), Roodeplaat, Pretoria.

Job Description
  • Contribute to existing research projects on DNA marker technologies including molecular breeding to support breeding programmes.
  • Together with breeders, designs and implements molecular breeding research experiments in support of the various breeding programmes.
  • Keeps the division abreast with new developments on DNA marker technologies by reviewing new publications & research reports.
  • Compiles own, and contributes to other progress reports (internal and external).
  • Captures, analyses and interprets data.
  • Contributes towards the creation of IP and PBR.
  • Provides supervision and mentors postgraduate students, research technicians and assistants. Understands management of co-workers and mentees.
  • Disseminates technology through peer-reviewed scientific articles, popular publications, etc.
  • Compliance with human resource policies and procedures.
  • Ensures compliance with SHE/OHS policies and procedures.
Job Requirements
  • MSc in Plant Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Genomics, Plant breeding or Genetics.
  • Strong background and experience in molecular biology and plant molecular markers.
  • Experience in the use of applicable genetic data analysis tools.
  • Accurate data collection skills and attention to detail.
  • Management skills including research project planning and time management.
  • Good communication (verbal & writing) skills and liaison with clients, fellow scientists and support staff.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite especially Excel.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations and procedures.

Job Description
  • Assist in maintenance of equipment, infrastructure and environment and any other request as per manager request.
  • Assist with gardening service and general upkeep of the farm.
  • Basic maintenance around the campus/farm.
  • Reporting of any symptoms of defects and breakages on the farm equipment.
  • Time management with execution of individual & team tasks.
  • Assisting in record keeping of day-to-day work done,
  • Comply with all requirements of the OHS Act and adhere to OHS requirement.
  • Assist with general farm work.
  • Assist with the maintenance of security fences, trellis- and irrigation systems.
Job Requirements
  • Grade 10 and relevant five (5) years’ experience on a farm.
  • Ability to work in physically demanding environment.
