Job SummaryTo provide specialist investigations, advice, support enabling the provision of effective Fraud Risk Management Services.

Job Description

Investigations:

  • Investigate all theft, fraud and corruption cases allocated, end to end by ensuring that all investigative/operative methodologies and standards (e.g. planning, reporting) are adhered to within prescribed time limits Compile a comprehensive case report containing the factual findings of the investigation, recommendations addressing people, processes, procedures and system failures or internal and external threats and forward the final report to Stakeholders.
  • Provide relevant findings and evidence for the use in disciplinary purposes and CCMA matters to Line Management and Employee Relations to ensure that appropriate and successful sanctions are handed down. Attend disciplinary / CCMA hearings when required.
  • Attend criminal / civil court proceedings when summons to do so, to provide expert evidence in Court, relating to Absa’s products, processes and flow of transactions to obtain successful prosecutions.

Risk Identification and Fraud Prevention:

  • Identify fraud risks or emerging risks during the course of an investigation or interactions with internal and external stakeholders, escalated upon discovery, to the relevant business unit and the Fraud Defence/Strategy Recoveries and Remediation Department for assessment and closing of gaps related to processes, policies and systems. Conduct a proper risk assessment with each investigation, which includes quantification of the loss, insurance claims, media impact / exposure, blocking accounts, claims, provisions, risk mitigation and compliance reporting, Ombudsman queries and engaging with Group Legal Services etc.
  • Identify high-risk Business areas, through feedback received from parties attending risk forums / investigations outcomes and perform specific fraud awareness presentations at the respective Business Units to the identified staff.
  • Inform Heads of Business via e-mail of new trends / scams identified with further escalation to Stakeholders and Business Units for further actions. | Operational Requirements and Compliance: Identify areas of improvement, make suggestions/recommendations on ways of working, concerning the investigative and operating methodologies, to line management, for further consideration, to improve standards and workflow.
  • Adhere and comply with the Group policies and procedures as set out on the Absa Intranet i.e. attestations, compulsory compliance training, via the Absa Learning system. Work co-operatively with colleagues, contributing positively and constructively to the achievement of the organizations’ objectives.

Stakeholder Management:

  • Develop and maintain relationships (establish relevant networks) with all internal and external stakeholders such as however not limited to (Absa Business Units, SAPS, other Banks, SARS etc..) to ensure that their co-operation can be obtained when required for key operations (e.g. recovery actions, data mining). Interact with counterparts in the industry to share information, gain an understanding of the threats and risks and to ultimately keep abreast of changes in the field and in the industry.
  • Actively participate in regular meetings with stakeholder / business, providing meaningful input and sharing information on best practices / investigation findings /risk identifications etc.

Education:

  • Bachelors Degree or Advances Diploma in Law/ Security/ Military Science/ Forensics/ Risk
  • Relevant Degree, postgraduate qualification
  • CFE Certification advantageous.

Technology Risk and Compliance

  • Responsible for managing Technology Risk across the bank and providing management an impartial and independent view

Assurance Exercises

  • First point of contact for all technology audit/assurance exercises (from 1st line, second line, third line as well as External auditors)
  • Ensure closure of all audit observations within agreed timelines

Vulnerability Management

  • Ensure all services (applications and infrastructure) are periodically assessed, through vulnerability assessments and penetration testing, and all gaps identified are remediated in a timely manner
  • Ensure risk events are captured are logged on the strategic platform as per the agreed process and timelines
  • Collaborate with risk and control colleagues across the bank for the scoping of policies/initiatives/projects/plans to ensure fair coverage, protection of the bank’s reputation and income and the overall sustainability of the bank
  • Owning and managing of third party/vendor risk management issues ensuring compliance to Absa’s standards and policies
  • Act as the Digital Transformation & Technology BCM Coordinator vis-à-vis ABML BCM Teams & Business functions and responsible for ITDR/PATS Testing & Remediation as per Group’s Application/Infrastructure Tier and prescribed testing period

People Management

  • Responsible for driving own Performance Development, setting yearly KPIs and agreeing with line manager. Also has the responsibility to ensure regular check-ins/ reviews are prepared and arranged for within agreed timelines.
  • Responsible for keeping up to date with evolving security trends and undertaking all necessary trainings in order to perform the role to the required standards, including gaining certifications where appropriate

Job Description

Accountability: Credit Risk Management:

  • To take ownership and control of credit risk related work on a defined portfolio of Resource & Project Finance clients against which Absa Group Ltd has credit facilities.
  • The candidate is to carry out comprehensive and quality credit risk functions. Functions cut across the credit lifecycle (i.e. granting, implementing, managing and restructuring).
  • Representing Credit to Senior Management in various committees, presenting analysis of the aggregate portfolio risk and composition.
  • Presentation of portfolio risk analysis to the relevant risk committees.
  • Developing and delivering relevant Monthly Risk MI for Senior Management, including analysis and commentary, ensuring risk issues on the defined portfolio are well understood and presented transparently.

Our Chief Security Office prides itself in its unique structure that sees an integration and collaboration model between our Information Risk, Cyber, Business Continuity, Physical Security & Forensics teams to ensure effective risk management across all disciplines. It also carries the responsibility of owning, operationally supporting and maintaining specialist security services to safeguard the confidentiality, integrity and availability of infrastructure and information to our customers in order to meet industry and regulatory requirements and good practice.

You will be responsible for providing Security Risk Management for Absa Group Ltd premises (e.g. Branches, Corporate Buildings, ATMs etc.) in a defined region (e.g. Free State, Northern Cape, North West, etc.) in accordance with Absa Group Physical Security and Violent Crimes (GPS) policies, standards and procedures.

What you’ll get to do:

The position is within the Chief Security Office, and your responsibilities will include the following:

  • Conduct and report Security Risk Assessments (SRA) against agreed schedule, standards and guidelines and monitor the implementation of SRA recommendations.
  • Present security awareness training to staff
  • Liaise with business units and provide expert opinions on new developments, products and solutions regarding physical security risk factors relating to the assigned portfolio, within the designated region.
  • Attend SA Police and industry forums to establish and maintain networks, identify common risks and solutions.
  • Liaise with and report on ABSA Forensic & Security (AFS) – Physical Security and Serious Violent Crimes deliverables to internal clients, as well as the performance of internal and external service partners, according to mutually agreed SLAs and SOPs.
  • Ensure implementation of the security strategy and serve as an advisor related to Physical Security measures, for the specific area of responsibility, within the region.
  • Minimize Absa’s non-trading losses related to physical security breaches by providing statistics on incident losses and predictions of future possible incident rate, discuss and determine the risk appetite per business unit or individual client/s.
  • Escalate crime predictions to the business for proactive risk management in line with budget.
  • Report writing.

Preferred Qualifications and Years of Experience:

  • 3 year Security Risk Management Diploma or equivalent NQF level 5 qualification
  • 5 years’ experience in Security Risk Management or related discipline.
  • 2 years management experience in a Security Risk Management or related discipline
  • Advance Diploma in Security management
  • Higher Diplomas: Law, Military Science and Security (Required),
  • No criminal or adverse credit record
  • General experience of the Banking environment

Job SummaryThe role holder will be the credit expert to nominated Relationship Managers working with a defined portfolio of high value, complex and sophisticated customer connections, acting as the conduit to Credit for sanctioning purposes.
• Develop practical and appropriate credit solutions (i.e. Lending structures) through understanding customer’s needs.
• Deliver high quality and consistent, credit applications, making recommendations.
• Monitor and control nominated accounts within designated portfolios and Maintain integrity of credit reporting as opposed to core banking system and update financial information.

Credit Risk Management

Time split : 60%

  • Assess a customer’s business through the analysis of Business and Credit risks associated with the provision of the Bank’s products and services to the customer
  • Develop high quality credit solutions with the view of obtaining fast credit approval from Credit teams
  • Be the joint contact for credit management purposes for accountants, solicitors and other professionals
  • Preparation of good quality credit applications with paper attachments for recommendations to the Sanctioner (ultimate approval authority).
  • Responsible for managing financial information produced by customers
  • Monitor and Control quality of portfolio using ‘Condition of Sanction’ triggers where possible and in accordance with internal guidelines and policies – Discussing with Sanctioner trigger events if they give cause for concern, advising the Relationship Manager simultaneously  

Business Risk

Time split : 20%

  • Work in partnership with Relationship Managers on new and existing credit applications, providing guidance on credit appetite and consulting with Credit team as appropriate
  • Deliver service in line with agreed business needs
  • Work in partnership with colleagues and proactively anticipate, respond to and seek to exceed the expectations of customers
  • Attend customer meetings with the Relationship Manager if credit related issues are to be discussed/need to be resolved
  • Proactively contribute to embedding agreed change management initiatives in support  of process and quality improvements, cost reductions
  • Support and contribute to specific industry focus as determined by the Corporate and Credit teams

  • Develop and maintain a close working relationship with Relationship Managers and Credit Managers.

Risk & Control – Time Split: 10%

  • Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Enterprise-Wide Risk Management Framework and internal Absa Policies and Policy Standards
  • Understand and manage risks and risk events (incidents) relevant to the role.

Education & Experience Required:

Essential

  • University degree in any of the following fields: Commerce, Accounting, Economics, Statistics, Business Administration or Finance.
  • A relevant master’s degree and/or related professional qualification will be an added advantage e.g. ACCA, CPA, CFA, etc.
  • A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in the corporate lending specifically in origination, credit analysis, credit risk structuring of transactions covering multiple industry sectors.
  • Excellent understanding of corporate credit and associated risks
  • Knowledge of commercial legal environment.
  • Relevant credit accreditation will be an added advantage.

Competencies and Skills

  • Risk assessment; analytical and numerate skills (acquired through credit courses attended and successfully completed)
