Description
PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The position exists to fulfil the following roles:
- On-going scanning of the strategic environment, as well as maintaining awareness as it pertains to the water and business sectors, notably of trends and developments in the economy, industry, markets and the nexus with energy and climate.
- Support the CSO, as well as EXCO and the Board, in the development and renewal of corporate strategy and facilitation of the strategy process.
- Coordination of the strategy implementation cycle and associated regular reporting.
- Provide advisory support to sector institutions in niche areas and anchor the institutional Desalination Community of Practice (DCoP).
- Generate and disseminate knowledge through publication and speaking opportunities, and promote thought leadership in niche areas of specialisation. 6. Mentoring and leading professionals, and contributing to business and sector capacity
THE KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS OF THE ROLE IN FOCUS, ARE:
1. On-going scanning of the strategic environment, as well as maintaining awareness as it pertains to the water and business sectors
- Undertake and share, on a regular basis, external and internal environmental scan for the organization, highlighting trends and impacts on the business.
- Prepare critical sections of the annual corporate plan pertaining to the broad economy at the national and global scale, industry landscape and business strategy.
2. Development and renewal of corporate strategy, and facilitation of the strategy process
- Advise both long-term and short-term value-adding corporate strategies, with presentations to EXCO and Board.
- Provide advisory for continuing analysis and renewal of the organization’s positioning and business model, to inspire effective decision making.
- Participation in the dialogue on the future of TCTA, within the changing landscape.
3. Coordination of the strategy implementation cycle and associated regular reporting
- Assess the trends of corporate engagement on strategy, and derive critical follow-up actions for strategic direction.
- Provide and present timeous and accurate reports on strategy implementation to management and Board.
- Advise EXCO, Board Committees and Board on the salient issues and trends in the business and sector environment.
4. Advisory support to sector institutions and anchoring the DCoP
- Undertake on-going internal advisory on the renewal of the organization’s positioning and business model.
- Provide sustained leadership and advisory in the sector on alternative water resources, positioning TCTA as a preferred provider of innovative solutions to water security challenges.
- Anchor the multi-institutional knowledge-sharing forum on desalination (DCoP).
5. Knowledge generation and dissemination, as well as thought leadership
- Produce and disseminate the results of research, evaluation, strategic advisory, policy analysis and other technical studies, as deemed appropriate.
- Present professional papers at national and international conferences, and author articles in peer-reviewed journals and other technical publications.
- Participate in panel discussions at seminars and conferences, and promote thought leadership.
- Facilitate internal and external knowledge-sharing platforms.
6. Mentorship, professional leadership and capacity-building
- Mentor and guide professional colleagues, where appropriate, with a view towards building capacity.
- Provide specialised leadership within the team and the wider, sectoral context.
Requirements
Minimum Qualification: Master’s in business Strategy, Engineering, Water Resources Infrastructure
Experience: 10 years
