The Mining Qualifications Authority (MQA) is a Sector Education and Training Authority (SETA) operating under the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET). It is mandated by the Skills Development Act (SDA) 97 of 1998 to drive skills development within the mining and minerals sector (MMS). Its scope covers a diverse range of sub-sectors, including Coal Mining, Gold Mining, Platinum Group Metals (PGM) Mining, Diamond Mining, Other Mining, Cement, Lime, Aggregates, and Sand (CLAS), as well as Services Incidental Mining (SITM), Diamond Processing, and Jewellery Manufacturing.

The MQA requires the services of a competent individual to fill the below-mentioned position.

ROLE PURPOSE:

To provide administrative support to the Strategic Planning Unit in the execution of their delegated functions

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

Business Strategy and Planning: Provide essential support to the Business Strategy and Planning function by coordinating documentation, scheduling meetings, and managing templates. Responsibilities include tracking strategic input submissions, verifying completeness, and assisting with document consolidation. The role also involves maintaining a centralised filing system for strategy documents, policies, and reports, supporting alignment between planning and budgeting processes, and providing logistical assistance for training sessions. This position ensures smooth administrative operations to enable effective delivery of MQA’s strategic objectives.

Performance Information Management and Reporting: The Administrator will support the performance management function by coordinating planning, monitoring, review, and reporting processes. Key tasks include maintaining templates, policies, and systems for collecting, verifying, and storing performance data, as well as ensuring compliance with technical standards. The role involves tracking and analysing performance trends, managing the Annual Performance Report (APR), and coordinating submissions to internal committees, the Board, DHET, DMPR, Auditor- General, and National Treasury within required timeframes. This position ensures accurate, timely, and well-organised performance information to meet statutory and organisational requirements.

Strategic and Annual Performance Plans: Assist in coordinating the development and implementation of the organisation’s strategic and annual performance plans. Responsibilities include supporting the preparation and submission of these plans, managing documentation, and ensuring alignment with sector transformation goals and skills development programmes. The role involves maintaining schedules, tracking progress, and providing administrative support for cascading the organisation’s mission and strategy to all levels. Additionally, the Administrator will help organise and oversee processes related to the Annual Performance Report (APR) to ensure timely and accurate reporting.

General Unit Administration: Assist with convening Unit meetings, taking minutes in meeting; distribution and archiving of minutes. Administration duties relating to travel and accommodation for Officers, Managers and Senior Manager.

Develop and maintain stakeholder / customer relationships: Assist in responding to all client queries. •Assist with the proactive identification of customer needs and opportunities.

KEY REQUIREMENTS: QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES:

Qualifications:

  • National Diploma (NQF 6) in relevant field (such as Human Resource: Training and Development, Business Administration) or equivalent.
  • Degree/NQF Level 7 qualification in the above fields will be an added advantage

Experience:

  • A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in administration; within a skills development environment preferred.
  • Knowledge of document management
  • Experience in working on any Management Information System with training/learning.
  • Knowledge of administration and management
  • Sound working knowledge and experience of the SETA environment would be an
  • Knowledge of the mining and mineral sector will be an added

The candidate should also be willing to: Work under pressure inclusive of longer than normal offices hours if required • Work with internal and external stakeholders • Travel away from home if required. Engage in a lifelong learning process relative to the context of the workplace. The successful candidate will be required to sign a performance agreement in terms of MQA Performance Management System.
