The South African Weather Service (SAWS) is therefore seeking to appoint an efficient and
enthusiastic person to undertake the role of:
Logistics Officer: Logistics and Inventory
Paterson Grade: C2
Salary total package: R 354 136 – R 477 773
Centre: Centurion

Job summary: Logistics Officer provides logistics and administrative support within the
Supply Chain Management unit, including inventory control, warehouse operations,
purchase order processing, and invoice coordination. Ensures compliance with SCM
regulations and maintains accurate records while supporting internal stakeholders and
suppliers to ensure efficient service delivery.

Key Performance Areas:
Governance and Compliance

  • Assistance provided with the generation of Purchase orders on the ERP System and
    copies mailed to suppliers/service providers.
  • Supervisor advised to cancel expired/old purchase orders.
  • Goods received, accurately captured on the ERP system and sent through to Supervisor
    for reviewing.
  • Outstanding orders followed up with suppliers/service providers, and internal
    stakeholders informed/ kept up to date on delivery status of goods.
  • All receipts recorded.
  • Received and captured stock packed to the correct bin locations and recorded on the
    bin card.
  • Goods issued from the warehouse and stock bin card updated.
  • End users informed when stock is ready for collection
  • Lower stock levels replenished, and assistance provided with the identification of
    redundant or obsolete stock.
  • Conduct periodic stocktaking participated in.
  • Warehouse kept clean at all times.
  • Support the verification and matching of supplier invoices against purchase orders and
    goods received notes
  • Assist in ensuring that invoices are submitted for payment within the prescribed 30-
    day period
  • Contribute to the monitoring and reporting of commitments, accruals and outstanding
    liabilities.
  • Liaise with Finance and Accounts Payable units to resolve logistics-related payment
    queries.
  • Compile and submit regular logistics reports, including outstanding orders, deliveries,
    and stock levels
  • Maintain proper filing systems (electronic and manual) for all logistics documentation
    in line with records management standards.
  • Provide accurate and complete documentation to Internal Audit, External Audit when
    required
  • The studying of the relevant Public Service and organisational prescripts/policies and
    processes and procedures applicable to the Unit.
  • All SCM related regulations/ prescripts and PFMA complied with at all times, ensuring
    service delivery, but also preventing audit quires

Advisory Services

  • Guidance to interns as directed by the supervisor.
  • Guidance to the end-users on how to complete requisitions

Document Management

  • Maintaining registers of inventory and all records associated with the functions of the
    SCM unit including requisition

Stakeholder Management

  • Client (internal and external) queries handled effectively to ensure good relationships.
  • Building good customer relationships.

Required minimum Education / Training:

  • Degree/National Diploma in Logistics or SCM field.
  • Knowledge of Treasury Regulations related to SCM environment.
  • Knowledge of Demand Management processes within Government.
  • MS Excel Intermediate knowledge.
  • Warehouse management.
  • Code C1 or Code 10 (without endorsements).
  • A minimum of 1-3 years’ relevant experience in a similar role of Logistics Officer,
    Logistics and Inventory.
