ASSISTANT MANAGER: EVALUATION AND ACCREDITATION (EDITOR)

The Council for Quality Assurance in General and Further Education and Training (Umalusi) is a statutory Quality Council which quality assures education provision in General and Further Education and Training.

Job Description

Main Duties: 

  • Implementation of a system intended to maintain and extend the evaluation and accreditation of independent schools and private colleges, and reporting thereon, including but not limited to: assisting in the development of accreditation policies and procedures.
  • Generating, editing, and quality-assuring reports and related documents.
  • Planning and coordinating site visits and the related reporting.
  • Establishing and maintaining sound relations with relevant stakeholders.
  • Developing and maintaining databases related to the work of the unit.
  • Performing any other tasks that are reasonably assigned by the supervisor.
Job Requirements

Requirements: 

  • An appropriate recognised three- or four-year post-matric qualification in education
  • A post-graduate education qualification will be an added advantage
  • Registration with the South African Council for Educators (SACE) will be an added advantage
  • At least three years’ middle management experience at a school, college, district, department level, specifically in curriculum management, evaluation, educational oversight, or quality assurance
  • At least 3 years’ working experience in a school offering the National Curriculum Statement (NCS), with experience in teaching English. Experience as a Umalusi Subject Specialist or Moderator, particularly in English, will be considered an added advantage.

Required Skills:

  • The successful applicants must have proven understanding, knowledge and experience of:
  • All pieces of legislation that inform Umalusi’s work as a Quality Council
  • The uniqueness of independent schools and private colleges
  • Accreditation, monitoring and evaluation systems and processes
  • Strong report writing, language editing, and document quality assurance skills
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills, with a strong command of grammar, punctuation, and syntax
  • The ability to assess, edit, and improve the clarity, structure, and coherence of complex reports and accreditation documents
  • Attention to detail and high levels of accuracy in language use and formatting
  • Familiarity with editing tools, including Microsoft Word’s Track Changes function
  • Sound training and facilitation skills
  • Project management, coordination and strong administration skills
  • The ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively under pressure and within tight deadlines.

Additional Advantages:

  • Experience working as a Umalusi Subject Specialist or Evaluator, particularly in English, dealing with the evaluation and accreditation of independent schools, is an added advantage, as is experience in the coordination and management of Umalusi Evaluation and Accreditation site visits.
  • Experience in teaching or lecturing English in a private college offering a qualification on the General and Further Education and Training Qualifications Sub-framework will be an added advantage.

  • Provide end-user training and support.
  • Compile monthly progress reports on activities assigned.
  • Demonstrate strong presentation, communication, writing, and administrative skills.
Job Requirements

Requirements:

  • A (3) three-year post-matric qualification in Information and Communication Technology (Software Development).
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ proven experience developing web applications and RESTful APIs using C# and modern ASP.NET Core development practices.
  • Experienced with MS SQL Server, including database design and writing T-SQL queries.
  • Front-end development experience using HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and jQuery.

  • Monitor the implementation of quality assurance of assessment and examination policies and regulations to ensure credibility of the GETC: ABET qualification Coordinate the moderation of examination question papers.
  • Coordinate the moderation of the Site-Based Assessment (SBA) Tasks and SBA Portfolios.
  • Coordinate the standardisation of marking guidelines and the verification of marking for all examination cycles.
  • Develop reports on all the quality assurance of assessment processes.
  • Build and maintain stakeholder relationships in the AET sector.
Job Requirements

Requirements:

  • A recognised 3-4 year post-matric qualification in education with specialisation in assessment and curriculum.
  • At least 3-5 years’ experience in the adult education and training sector.
  • 3 year managerial experience in education.
  • Extensive knowledge of and insight into policies, legislation relating to, and latest developments in the Adult Education and Training (AET) sector knowledge and understanding of Umalusi legislative mandate.
  • Experience in teaching and assessment of the GETC: ABET qualification knowledge and experience in the quality assurance processes and the national examinations and assessment practices.
  • Computer literacy.
  • A valid driver’s licence.
  • SACE registration.

Required Skills:

  • Knowledge of quality assurance in the AET sector.
  • Present good quality work, be self-managing and a team player.
  • Possess good communication, project management, planning, execution, technical, report writing, good interpersonal, facilitation, and coordination, as well as computer skills.
