BREWING OPERATOR

The Key Purpose of this role is to safely operate one or more discrete processes in the Brewing plant (e.g. Wort Cooling, Yeast Management, Filtration Q&C), the execution of maintenance tasks, quality control checks and analyses, and the coaching of fellow team members to produce a consistent product of the right quality at optimum cost.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Optimize Plant & Process Performance where appropriate
  • Operate the Brew house Plant and Process
  • Operate Beverage Fermentation Plant and Process
  • Operate Beverage Filtration Plant and Process
  • Operate the Packaging (kegging and bottling) Plant and Process
  • Performing housekeeping tasks, applying 5s principles and following safe work practices
  • Unsafe work practices must be identified and corrected.
  • Support the creation (drafting and documenting) of standard work procedures (including quick fix routines and problems
  • Carry out the required quality +checks and analyses, and recording the results on the appropriate information system
  • Where quality problems have arisen, apply the appropriate problem-solving techniques (e.g. Quick fix routines) to resolve
  • Escalate any identified or unresolved problems to BAM
  • Actively participate in meetings and goal reviews.
  • Utilize the gap list to record issues, problems and improvement opportunities.
  • Fully understanding the team goals and participating in team goal review sessions.
  • Making use of relevant communication media (e.g. shift logbook) to stay informed and inform others of issues.
  • Complete required hand over to incoming shift team members, ensuring the issues relating to plant performance, quality
  • Complete autonomous maintenance tasks problem-solving activities
  • Respond rapidly to upstream or downstream triggers that could result in out-of-control process situations
  • Apply problem solving techniques (e.g. 5Y, quick fix routines etc.) to identify and correct problems
  • Develop others in own skills as well as the learning of the skills of other specialist Brewery Technicians
  • Be a logical, analytical problem solver who can operate in an unstructured environment

UTILITIES MACHINE SPECIALIST

The key purpose of this role is to create and sustain a progressive learning environment for level 2 and 1 teams, this will be done by providing an effective service focused on the acquisition of competence to support brewery performance.


Key Roles and Responsibilities: 
Operational Support

  • Provide specialist support to the shift-based teams during operations
  • Assist as functional expert in problem solving. This must be undertaken in support of the Process Artisan
  • Where requested, provide guidance and advice to the shift-based teams

Planned Maintenance

  • Take part in maintenance planning meeting, contributing suggestions and clarifying work required
  • Carry out work during the planned maintenance window in accordance with the planned maintenance schedule issued by the planner
  • Partake in maintenance post-mortems to feedback problems, opportunities and learnings from maintenance activities

Routine Maintenance

  • Partake in cleaning, lubrication and inspection in accordance with the maintenance schedule issued by the Maintenance Planner
  • Carry out routine maintenance activities in accordance with the maintenance schedule
  • Where problems have been uncovered during routine maintenance, these must be resolved using the appropriate PS techniques

Running Repairs

  • On request, partake in carrying out running repairs on plant and equipment, or support the Shift Artisans in carrying out repairs
  • When carrying out repairs, assess the problem and determine a course of action
  • Complete the administration tasks relating to any running repairs that the Technician has carried out as per SAP requirements

Problem Solving

  • Where problems have occurred during routine activities, apply the correct problem-solving approach to resolve
  • Where required, call in additional resources to assist in problem solving or escalate to the Engineering Controller for direction
  • Assist fellow team members to resolve problems on request Take part in FFA’s on request

Improvement

  • Improve SWI’s, SOP’s and maintenance tasks on an ongoing basis to ensure that the loop is closed out to prevent issues arising

Housekeeping & Safe

  • Operate in a safe manner at all times, and identify and highlight unsafe work practices so that these may be corrected
  • Carry out work according to the work instructions and adhere to appropriate AB InBev policies and procedures
  • Carry out housekeeping tasks, and apply 5S principles during the execution of duties

Minimum Requirements:

  • N6 qualification/National Diploma in Engineering (Mechanical/Electrical)
  • Trade Test qualification: Millwright/Electrician
  • 3-5 Years in a Utilities production environment
  • Utilities maintenance workshop experience in plant
  • CAT-B with refrigeration experience
  • Understanding of Co2 purification, boilers, effluent water, chlorine, NH3 plants and reticulation systems

Brewing Team Leader-1

The Key Purpose of this role is to lead operational shift teams to meet production performance target.


Key Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Checking that the team, in accordance with work instructions and maintenance schedules carries out required maintenance tasks on shift
  • Ensuring that the Brewing Process Artisan carries out running repairs on shift, calling in additional resources where required and communicating outstanding work to the Maintenance Planner
  • Verifying that the Brewing Process Artisan coaches, mentors, and transfers knowledge relating to maintenance to the Brewing Process Operator, and provides assistance during autonomous maintenance. Where maintenance issues have been escalated to the Team Leader, the Team Leader with the Brewing Process Artisan must provide guidance and call in additional resources if required Ensuring that the SBU understands and adhere to quality standards, and verifying that team members are carrying out routine quality checks and analyses according to the work instructions
  • Verifying that the Brewing Process Operator coaches, mentors and transfers knowledge relating to quality control and analyses to the Brewing Process Artisans and Brewing Operators
  • Carrying out quality trend analysis to identify problems and opportunities timeously, and where quality problems have occurred and been escalated to the Team Leader, deciding on an appropriate course of action to resolve. This may involve calling in specialist resources such as core lab. Where quality information has triggered a problem solving, the Team Leader must ensure that the required and relevant SBU members are involved. Where quality trend analysis indicate the need for a problem solving exercise, the Team Leader must initiate one
  • Preparing for the daily shift meeting by reviewing past shift performance and identifying issues for team discussion. Lead the daily shift meeting, making use of a standard agenda, and ensuring that team members actively partake
  • Ensuring that issues and opportunities raised during daily shift meetings are recorded on the gap list for action, and that these actions have accountabilities assigned
  • Communicating production schedule, shift production and quality performance or other relevant information to team members
  • Conduct an end of shift meeting with the team to communicate production performance, problems, planned schedule and work assignments
  • Conducting a hand-over meeting with incoming shift Team Leader. Issues to be communicated include process performance, quality, production schedule, problems and issues. Check that hand over procedures are followed (e.g. housekeeping, change parts etc.) and that team members are conducting a hand over to incoming team members
  • Coaching, mentoring and supporting team members in using the correct problem-solving techniques (such as 5Y, quick fix, etc.) to solve situational problems. Where problems have been escalated to the Team Leader, deciding on an appropriate course of action where necessary, the Team Leader may call in additional or specialist resources. Verify, where problems have been resolved, that the problem has been eliminated and ensure that, where necessary, work instructions and procedures have been updated
  • Where problems cannot be resolved on the situational level, the Team Leader must escalate it to L2
  • Ensuring that waste reduction and process improvement goals are incorporated into team goals, and the team understands these goals
  • Ensuring that where process improvement or waste reduction opportunities have been captured on the gap list, these are properly evaluated, and calls in specialist resources where required to assist in evaluation
  • Ensure that SBU members take part in regional and divisional plant optimization initiatives

PACKAGING MAINTENANCE CONTROLLER

Key outputs and responsibilities:
 

ASSET CARE

  • Manage all packaging maintenance activities and lead machine specific grouping of artisans (i.e Bottle washing, Pasteurizer, Packer and Unpacker)
  • Drive continuous improvement using VPO tools
  • Responsible for the reduction of breakdowns in the packaging area by analyzing breakdowns, complying with the PM requirements and implementing Continuous Improvements
  • Review and Implementation of Planned Maintenance Procedures (Daily, Weekly and Monthly Checklists)
  • Ensures that service levels agreements are maintained at the required standards by carrying out all breakdown, preventative and predictive maintenance effectively
  • Participate in executing the department’s asset care strategy and ensure the machine performance of the packaging department is maintained
  • Coaches and develops the engineering skills of other maintenance and operational staff
  • Control and oversee maintenance cost against available budget
  • Ensure engineering standards applied correctly
  • Draws up, Coaches and develops engineering skills to other maintenance and operational staff using OPL and SOPs
  • Coach Artisans on AWS

PROBLEM SOLVING AND DECISION MAKING

  • Responsible for fault-finding and problem solving of engineering/ operational problems in the packaging area by ensuring that the appropriate corrective action regarding any deviation from standards is taken
  • Identifies the major engineering losses in packaging area and investigates using problem solving methodologies. (5 Why, Stage 1 etc.)
  • Review emergency works orders and initiate investigations and corrective action
  • Capability to develop and lead cross functional teams to deliver Business needs

SAFETY AND HYGIENE

  • Ensure team compliance with acts and procedures
  • Maintain 5 S and housekeeping standards
  • Ensure reporting, investigation, documentation and action of incidents as per the relevant acts and procedures
  • Promote safety awareness
  • Ensure compliance with special work permit requirements by own employees and contractors

ADMINISTRATION

  • Manage Level 1 & 2 team goals in packaging area
  • Conduct individual and team performance reviews and one on ones

QUALITY

  • Ensures that Company Quality Standards and are adhered to in the packaging area

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum Qualification: National Diploma Mechanical/Electrical/Millwright
  • Trade: Fitter and Turner/Millwright/Electrical
  • Maintenance Diploma would be advantages
  • Preferably FMCG environment
  • 3 -5 years’ experience in Preventive, & Predictive Maintenance of concerned with production
  • plant, involved in the day-to-day inspections, preventive & predictive maintenance and repair of machinery
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence at various levels of the organization
  • Previous experience with VPO or other continuous improvement tools would be advantageous
  • Ability to prioritize and manage maintenance projects in a packaging environment
  • Good knowledge of sustainable development reporting would be advantageous
  • Good all round knowledge of manufacturing
  • Demonstrated knowledge of SHE policies and procedures

Job Purpose

The Key Purpose of this role is to address the acquisition of technical skills and experience for graduates as well as familiarize them with the company culture and principles in an 18-month structured programme. The rigor of the programme should ensure that an individual that has completed the programme can be allocated an area of responsibility immediately.
