Professional OfficerL Language Practitioner
(Afrikaans)

Requirements

  • Relevant three-year tertiary qualification, majoring in Afrikaans or
    linguistics, with English at least at first-year university level or a
    postgraduate translation diploma (specialising in Afrikaans and
    English)
  • 2 – 5 years’ experience in technical and legal translation
  • Computer literacy: Proficiency in Microsoft 365
  • Understanding of local government terminology
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure

Key Performance Areas

  • Responsible for performing translation tasks and activities; and
    coordinate translation and interpreting requests when required
  • Conduct research on best practices to ensure translation accuracy
  • Keep abreast of the latest developments in language practice
  • Conduct editing and proofreading in Afrikaans and English in line
    with
    rules of grammar and style to ensure consistent use of terminology

Principal Business Analyst

Requirements

  • B Eng, BSc Eng, B Tech in Engineering
  • A Master’s degree focused on Data Management, Information
    Technology or a related field will be advantageous
  • 8 years of more relevant experience, postgraduate experience
  • Sound knowledge of SCADA, Telemetry, communications and
    information systems.

Key Performance Areas

  • Lead the development, enhancement and maintenance of Events
    Management, Decision Support, Data Management and
    operational control systems supporting water distribution,
    wastewater conveyance, reservoir and pump station operations,
    including alerts, notifications, trending, graphical displays and
    operational control screens.
  • Direct the analysis, interpretation and dissemination of operational
    data through dashboards, reports and decision-support models,
    including water, sewer, water-quality, reservoir-safety and
    infrastructure-planning applications, to support routine operations,

Senior Air Quality Practitioner

Requirements

  • Relevant 4-year tertiary qualification preferably a BTech:
    Environmental Science / Environmental Health / Environmental
    Management / other related qualification.
  • 5 – 8 years in the related field of air quality management / climate
    change / environmental health / management.
  • Registered with a relevant professional body.
  • Code EB Driver’s Licence.
  • Computer Literacy: MS Office
  • Peace Officer Certificate from an accredited training institution.
  • Environmental Management Inspector certificate as issued by the
    Department of Forestry Fisheries and Environment.

Key Performance Areas

  • Administer the process of Atmospheric Emission Licensing
    applications to ensure compliance with the relevant legislation and
    protection of the environment and public health.
  • Investigate, evaluate, review recommend on environmental impact
    assessment applications, specialist air quality studies and
    Development Management Applications and recommend
    mitigation measures.
  • Process and assess applications and to make recommendations for
    approval of fuel burning-equipment and open burning applications.
  • To enforce the National Environmental Management: Air Quality
    Act of 2004 and City of Cape Town Air Quality Management By-law
    2016 in order to give effect to legal requirements and to investigate
    and evaluate diverse complaints in order to maintain the objectives
    of the City of Cape Town’s Air Quality Management Plan (AQMP)
    and comply with Councils complaints policy.
  • Compile, develop, modify, plan, validate and maintain an
    atmospheric emissions inventory database.

Range Officer

Requirements

  • Grade 12
  • Assessor and Moderator Certificate
  • Qualified Professional Firearms Training Council (PFTC) Instructor
    and Registered
  • Registered Assessor and Moderator on the PFTC database.
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience as a Firearm Instructor
  • Must be physically fit and able-bodied.
  • Must be able to work under adverse condition
  • No criminal record.
  • Fit to possess a firearm

Key Performance Areas

  • To facilitate training in accordance with applicable legislation and
    range rules by; facilitating the approved firearm-training program in
    order to ensure the competence of members within Safety and
    Security Directorate as it pertains to firearms.
  • Ensure the safety of all at the shooting range in order to ensure that
    there are zero incidents or accidents in this potentially risky
    environment.
  • Responsible for maintenance and cleaning of the firearms as well as
    the maintenance of the shooting range to ensure a conducive as
    well as safe environment at the shooting range.
  • Perform range specific duties to ensure compliance with legislation,
    range rules as well as SOP’s set by the NRCS PFTC and SASSETA,
    and that all training activities are properly recorded.

Wildland Firefighter

Requirements

  • Grade 12 Certificate
  • 18 years or older
  • Must be willing to complete practical and theoretical
    firefighting training
  • Be stationed at any Fire Station within the City of Cape Town
  • Work 40 hours per week and shifts
  • Previous experience in fire related industry would be advantageous
  • Required to work additional hours/overtime on short notice
  • Required to work in a team and cope with stressful situations
  • No criminal record

NOTE: All shortlisted candidates will be required to undertake and
pass the following compulsory fitness test

  • Reach test (1.9 m)
  • 2.4 km run (Males 12 minutes and Females 13 minutes)
  • Push-ups (30 in 60 seconds)
  • Sit-ups (30 in 60 seconds)
  • Dead load carry (2 x 25 kg drums a distance of 100m)

NOTE: Candidates who pass the physical test will:

  • be required to pass a written assessment (Mathematics and
    English comprehension) and interview
  • be required to submit their fingerprints or identity numbers
    for the purpose of checking criminal records. No other
    criminal clearances will be acceptable
