Job Description:
Join us as a Mine Overseer Production where you will manage and plan for the development and provision of mining work practices and structures.
The Mine Overseer has the Legal accountability with a 2.14.1 and a 2.13.12 appointment in terms of the MHSA section 26 of 1996. The main responsibility of this role is to ensure that a dedicated section of the operational process operates effectively from a current and future best practice perspective.
Below are some of the key responsibilities you will be required to execute.
- Initiate the implementation of applicable Safety, Regulations, The Act, Codes of practice and standards
- Contribute and participate in the Shafts planning process to achieve optimum and integrated plans for the section as well as the total BA and BU
- Investigates and reports any incidents / injuries.
- Review and introduce mining best practices to enhance performance efficiencies over long term
- Negotiate with Engineering Department – source and supply determined material to operations
- Alignment of operational performances both in stope and development to the overall Operational Area plans contribute to the effective management of the Operational Area
- Ensure that health and safety standards are adhered to and improved upon in the section
- Audit the process regularly to ensure conformance to and understanding of standards
- Support overall Business Planning
This role is in the Mining department at a Band 6 level reporting to the Section Manager/ Mine Manager.
Qualifications:

- Mine Overseer Certificate for scheduled mines
- Blasting Certificate
- First Aid Certificate (advantageous)

Experience:
- At least 5 years mining experience at metalliferous mines

Job Description:
Maintain, repair, modify and install all non-specialist plant and site equipment in the facility as directed with the aim of ensuring availability of equipment for improving quality and productivity. This is to be achieved by maintaining the highest safety and environmental standards at all times. Assist with the design, construction, and commissioning of projects as and when required.
Forms part of the KMDL Emergency Response Team (ERT) with the purpose of effectively responding to emergencies on site. The successful candidate shall be required to pass a number of assessments that will include a practical assessment, physical fitness assessment, psychometric, security clearance including polygraph assessment
Key Tasks:
- Maintain and repair equipment on site and order spares as needed.
- Provide technical direction to employees/ users of equipment on requested treatment equipment.
- Make recommendations on process improvements and implement as approved.
- Monitor the functioning of treatment and laboratory equipment.
- Ensure maintenance is performed according to planned schedules and assists with breakdowns, repairs and maintenance issues as required.
- Ensure flow meters are sent for external calibrations & signs off job cards on completion.
- Ensure relevant work permits are completed & available, before carrying out work e.g. Hot Work, Lock out, Confined space etc.
- Ensure allocated equipment inspection registers are in place and that checklists are completed as per schedule i.e. workshop portable equipment, lifting equipment etc.
- Assist with stock control of material, equipment and spares in the workshop.
- Apply fault finding techniques, conduct root cause analysis (RCA) failure and complete regular plant inspections. Report any issue to Facility Technician and Management.
- Attain and maintain relevant licenses required to execute allocated duties i.e. Basic Rigging, Working at Heights, K53 (on site) etc
- Maintain a clean and environmentally safe work area by applying good housekeeping principles.
- Will be required to operate mobile machinery i.e. Manitou, forklift and TLB.
- Emergency Response Team (ERT) member
- Primary responder for fault finding and repairs for any emergencies (during work hours or after hours).
- Execute planned maintenance schedule on emergency response equipment.
- Must not be claustrophobic as the Artisan is required to work in ‘confined’ spaces, actively assist during bulk acid offloading and hazardous chemical maintenance/repair tasks in a Class B suit. Response to chemical emergencies will require working in a level A suit (including Self Contained Breathing Apparatus).
- Actively participate in the scheduled ERT meetings / drills / training / ERT equipment inspections / fitness sessions.
Qualifications:
- Grade 12 with relevant experience
- Valid driver’s license
- Trade Certificate in either of the following disciplines:
- Fitting & turning
- Boiler making
- Millwright
Role-specific knowledge:
- Proven track-record in Repair and Maintenance from processing plant environment and/or laboratory environment
- Working experience in plastic welding, pneumatics, hydraulics, and/or mechanics would be advantageous
- Experience in working with ISO systems (ISO 9001, 17025, 45001 & 14001) would be advantageous
- Computer literate with MS Office Software.
- Knowledge operating mobile machinery would be advantageous.

As Shift Supervisor Mining you will focus on safe quality of work, achieving of production targets, housekeeping, supervising and coordinating support functions. Below are some of the key responsibilities critical to the role.
Key responsibilities of this role are:
- Ensure the maintenance of proper discipline of all persons under your charge.
- Daily on-the-job coaching and on-site training sessions should be conducted and captured in the logbook.
- Provide and maintain a working environment that is safe and without undue risk to the health of employees within your area of responsibility
- Make use of the latest Risk Matrix provided in the logbook to assess and eliminate or reduce risks

As an Early Talent Officer you will provide services as required and your responsibilities will include but not limited to:

Achievement of Logistics Business Plan
- Assist the Resident Engineer in developing an operational plan for the year to support the achievement of throughput objectives
- Undertake to plan, up to 1-2 years ahead, the budget requirements according to the planned maintenance schedules verses operational targets
- Liaise with the Resident Engineer regarding daily, weekly and monthly progress to plan, budget and employees resources

- Plan daily, weekly and monthly work requirements and priorities.

- Establish procedures for abnormal work requirements which fall outside of standard procedures
- Ensure that accurate labour records including overtime worked are maintained and record keeping of legal compliance
