Requirements
- Completed Trade Test for Artisans or Telecoms PAX/PABX
- Relevant 5 years’ Telecommunication experience –
Post Apprenticeship - Specialist knowledge of PABX/PAX telephone systems,
copper/fibre cables and hi-site/microwave infrastructure - Code B or EB driver’s licence
- Ability to operate sophisticated test and splicing equipment
- High degree of accuracy w.r.t. operation of splicing/jointing
equipment - A working knowledge of the safety regulations as well as
light engineering - Required to work in all weather conditions and ability to work
at heights. - Required to work outside normal working hours during
emergencies and planned overtime. - Required to be on standby.
- Must be prepared to enter confined areas and working at heights
Key Performance Areas
- Experienced ability to operate sophisticated test and splicing
equipment, High degree of accuracy w.r.t. operation of
splicing/jointing equipment, working knowledge of the safety
regulations as well as light engineering, Telephone principals. - Interprets and coordinates specific pre-work/site requirements
with regards to installation, repairs and planned and predictive
maintenance sequences and guides the activities of personnel. - Completes internal transactional documentation (e.g. time sheets,
log sheet, progress and productivity field report, etc.) and related
forms (vehicle checklist). - Performs specific tasks associated with the operation of
specialized vehicles and equipment (compressor, trucks, etc.)
during electrical installation, repair and maintenance activities. - Coordinates activities associated with the construction and
installation of communication networks. - Coordinates activities and sequences associated with routine
maintenance of communication infrastructure PAX and
PABX cable networks, communications consoles and intercom
cable systems - Coordinates activities/sequences associated with trouble
shooting/fault finding and repairing on fibre optic network
cables and copper networks both underground and overhead. - Coordinates activities/sequences associated with safety and
procedures in and around high/medium voltage sites and
infrastructure.
