DHL Global Forwarding has an opening for RFR Domestics and Cross Border Controller in South Africa. In this specific position you will co-ordinate, control, plan and manage all aspects within the road freight cross-border (Import, Export & Bonded Transit) transportation.

In this RFR Domestics and Cross Border Controller position

  • You will understand and process Road Freight shipment requests and execute such requests expertly.
  • You will arrange bookings based on customer requirements with the most qualified and cost-efficient transport supplier capable of executing the shipment requirements.
  • You will register shipments on CW1 and SALOODO! within the specified timeframes (1 hour) after receiving shipping instructions.
  • You will process shipping documentation acquired from customers in the most adequate way to allow DHL CDZ to efficiently and effectively customs clear the shipment within the specified time frame (3 hours).
  • You will ensure all shipping documents related to the file are accurately named and stored on eDOCS, following stated document management best practices.
  • You will ensure all ACRs and WIPs are loaded onto the registered file at the time of registration.
  • You will ensure all files are properly billed out within acceptable time frames, following best billing practices and ensuring accepted GP margins are maintained.
  • You will coordinate the movement of cargo within required/stipulated time frames to meet customer needs.
  • You will manage and monitor all parties in the supply chain of the shipment (Shipper, Carrier, and Agents).
  • You will develop and maintain relationships with suppliers and customers.
  • You will prepare specific customer reports whenever required.
  • You will support the Head of Road Freight with negotiation and maintenance of supplier rates and contracts, new/change of systems, and directives.
  • You will receive and accept transport orders from customers.
  • You will book shipments with transporters on time.
  • You will follow up on acquittals for RIT/RIB shipments.
  • You will follow up on PODs (proof of delivery) with transporters.
  • You will arrange the collection and packing of customer cargo.
  • You will supply carriers with transport order instructions, CW1 reference numbers, and SALOODO! shipment numbers.
  • You will send pre-alerts to customers, destination offices, and agents.
  • You will invoice shipments based on estimates or rate agreements.
  • You will produce thorough and accurate documentation ensuring customer satisfaction and compliance with regulations.
  • You will participate within the department regarding industry or regulation changes.
  • You will identify hazardous cargo and ensure the cargo is transported under the right regime.
  • You will follow up on Standard Operating Procedures (general or customer-specific).

Role Context

Operations Systems

GLOBAL SOP

  • Provide feedback and implement improvement initiatives to maintain Global SOP accreditation

Role Context

Role Context

Responsible for the expeditious clearance of both inbound and outbound WPX shipments & international documents, ensuring that paperwork is correctly documented and that shipments are correctly bagged. Further to this, ensuring that all materials are lodged with airlines and road carriers where applicable on time.

Key responsibilities

  • Prepare export documentations for dutiable shipments (WPX) exiting the gateway to ensure their expeditious passage through the network (invoices, pro-forma, customs clearance forms.
  • Ensure clearance of inbound material is done effectively and accurately within 45 minutes of arrival of the aircraft from origin.
  • Ensure cargo collected corresponds with the pre-alert received.
  • Ensure that pre-alerts are sent to destination and origin where applicable giving full upliftment details of consignments sent.
  • Responsible to receive, bag and scan shipments as per destination codes, for all international documents and WPX shipments and monitor the movement to ensure speedy upliftment.
  • Hang and label bags in accordance with destination codes ready for dispatch of shipments without any delays.
  • Ensure that all materials are lodged with the airlines following the cutoff times or made ready for collection by the road hauler timeously and subsequently following up with the airline or road hauler to confirm upliftment of the material on the flight for which it was scheduled.
  • Responsible to report any shipments that are found to be torn, open, or damaged to the Supervisor and/or Security personnel.
  • Ensure that these shipments are captured onto a report and sorted according to DHL standards.
  • Prepare correct AWB for airline to be used in a neat and accurate manner.
  • Ensure that the information, weight and dimensions are accurate / correct.
  • Enquire arrival times of inbound charter flights and ensure cargo is offloaded safely and as quickly as possible, allowing cargo to be checked into the warehouse for further transit.
  • Load outbound cargo expeditiously in a neat manner onto the correct charter.
  • Ensure all bags are correctly tagged as per Service Centres.
  • Liaise with Security Officers regarding seal numbers and preparation of manifests.
  • Ensure all old tags and markings are removed from bags and correct cages are used as per Service Centre vehicles.
  • Ensure that no bag weighs more than 20kg as per network standards.
  • All shipments weighing more than 50kg must be placed at the Heavyweight Section for collections by Trunkers.
  • Always follow GSOP.
  • Ensure quality is always integrated into the business.
  • Assist supervisors with daily tasks as required.

  • You will ensure that Customs clearance is done within the given time frames to avoid penalties and storage and demurrage. Consult the CDZ dashboard and/or Team leader.
