Key Purpose

  • A wide-ranging role supporting the Head of Actuarial and Vitality Network (VN) executives with commercial and new business opportunity sizing, and successful implementation and management of Vitality core and integrated products in various international markets.
  • The role will span new business development and commercial support and analysis; actuarial consulting, product development and pricing support for international partner markets; and central product and model development as we take Vitality forward through personalisation and learning models.

Areas of responsibility may include but not limited to

  • Analysis and research for identifying new growth opportunities for VN across the globe, including both existing markets and new territories.
  • Supporting on prioritised business initiatives, which includes developing businesses cases and commercials for potential new Partners, quantifying the value generated from integrating Vitality with Partner products, as well as modelling scenarios for financial impact to Vitality Network.
  • Actuarial support to various international Partners, which includes support on commercials and financial projections, support on strategic and product initiatives to drive sales and product performance, problem-solving at a local market level, and pricing and actuarial modelling support on product changes and new feature launches leveraging best practice from Discovery home and global markets.
  • Collaborating with R&D on the development of new product features (starting with Vitality AI), and localising these for our Partners.
  • Data analytics related to program performance and member engagement in various markets. This includes inputting into reporting projects run by the BI team.
  • Providing actuarial and technical support on a range of other ad-hoc projects.

Education:

          BSc with Honours in Actuarial Science or equivalent

 Experience:

  • Nearly or Qualified Actuary.
  • 2+  years’ experience, preferably with an understanding of Discovery products, experience and integration with Vitality.
  • Experience in Actuarial Modelling, profit testing, data analytics and machine learning, problem solving, mathematical and statistical reasoning will be an advantage.

Key Purpose

Design and implement robust, scalable and optimally performing systems using Java related technologies, according to provided specifications, standards and procedures, while ensuring compliance with the architectural standards and guidelines laid out by Vitality Drive International.

Areas of responsibility may include but are not limited to

Design:

  • Translate business requirements into technical designs adhering to Discovery Insure processes, standards and guidelines, taking cognisance of performance, security and scalability requirements. Deliver within agreed timeframes.
  • Liaise with relevant parties where clarification of business requirements or resolution to technical issues is needed
  • Research and find effective solutions to technical issues that arise
  • Estimate development timelines based on business requirements

Development:

  • Construct robust, maintainable, scalable, optimally performing system code in line with technical specifications, following prescribed process, standards and procedures. Deliver within agreed timeframes
  • Conduct unit testing and fix any defects found

Testing:

  • Verify build stability and quality with development team before releasing to test team, aiming to release with zero defects
  • Assist the Business analyst in ensuring the test pack includes relevant scenarios and test data.
  • Consult and assist in reviewing risk / impact of defects found in testing, and assist with fixing where necessary

Support / Troubleshooting:

  • Assist system users with technical support issues and handle according to defined procedures
  • Ability to effectively analyse root cause of system errors (data errors, performance and stability issues)

Mentoring / Team development:

  • Actively coach other developers to understand and apply the Insure coding and architectural standards correctly, as well as any technologies in use
  • Perform code review to ensure logical correctness, maintainability, scalability, performance, compliance with architectural standards and frameworks

Personal development:

  • Keep abreast of current technological trends and how these might be applied in the Discovery environment
