A vacancy exists for General Assistant – Laundry, based at Waverley Care Centre in Knights, Germiston. These positions report to the Housekeeper. The successful candidate will be responsible for management, collection, handling, washing and distribution of linen as well as general duties throughout the units.Critical Outputs
- Housekeeping is functional 7 days per week as per operational requirements
- Collection of linen from the units
- Washing, ironing, and folding of linen
- Distribution of linen to all units in the facility
- Cleaning, mopping and dusting of housekeeping department
- Cleaning and daily inspection of housekeeping equipment
- Control of housekeeping chemicals and consumables
- Control the linen levels in units according to requirements
- Control the quality of the linen distributed and received
- Accuracy in daily counting of linen
- Stock take of linen to be done as required – New linen and linen in circulation
- Neatness and cleanliness of linen store room required
- Keeping accurate records of totals of linen collected and distributed in units
- Keeping the premises clean with best housekeeping practices
- Assistance with general duties when required
- Daily Housekeeping walkabouts to identify and action GAPS
- Mending of clothes and linen
- Ensure compliance to LHC Laundry policy standards, other relevant legislation and OSH Act.
Requirements
- Grade 12 Certificate
- Minimum of two years’ experience in healthcare laundry services would be highly recommended
- Proactive on training and development to keep up to date with the latest innovations within laundry services
- Knowledge of infection control, health and safety procedures and disaster management is essential
- Excellent communication and problem solving
- Be able to work under pressure and Time management
- Eager to learn new systems and accept challenges
- Be self-starter and have the ability to work independently
- Team player and be very energetic
- Person must be customer focused
- A good relationship skill is necessary

Requirements

- Understanding of the private healthcare industry, its challenges and role players would be an advantage
- Basic understanding of financial principles
- Computer proficiency (comprehensive knowledge of Impilo and IMEDS or relevant software system)
- Excellent communication and Interpersonal skills a prerequisite.
- Experience in dealing with customers.
- Knowledge of hospital procedures and medical terminology will be advantageous teamwork essential.

- Respond to requests from doctor’s rooms, auxiliary services areas and soft services maintenance requests as reported.
- Be fully capable of maintaining and repairing fixtures such as air conditioning, carpentry, drywall, small power, flooring, kitchen, bath, roofing, windows, and doors.
- Maintain and arrange signage, wall pictures, flowerpots, decorative fixtures, television mounting and road marking.
- Complete and return all maintenance job cards to Maintenance Office
- Be able to perform after hour standby duties during call outs/emergencies.
Requirements
- Matric / Grade 12
- At least N2 or Higher Technical Trade Courses with minimum of 3 years in engineering maintenance or facilities maintenance
- Minimum N3 in Electrical or Mechanical would be advantageous.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Practical experience in hospital environment or similar environment is essential.
