OBJECTIVE

The purpose of the Internship program is to provide a work-integrated platform for graduates with an aim to expose the graduates to the Stakeholder & Transformation (to learn the transformation function within an State Owned Entity environment. The intern will practice these skills while being allocated to administrative in strategic partnership between an event organizer and sponsoringto provide assistance to SMMEs at the various SANRAL offices relating to tenders and development opportunities. The interns will manage the Supplier Development Desk, and both facilitate the objectives of the Transformation Unit and alleviate the anticipated workload of the Provincial Transformation Officers once the supplier development desks become active).

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Minimum requirements for Events Management Internship:

  • NQF 6 in Communications, Project Management and Transformation

Minimum requirements for Transformation Internship:

  • NQF 7 in Public administration/ Public management or equivalent

EVENTS EXPOSURE

Under the Guidance of the Events and Sponsorship Specialist, the Inten will be exposed to the following:

  • Support in SANRAL Events and Outreach programmes.
  • Development of an events calendar.
  • Learn how to compile events and outreach programmes plans, logistical check list.
  • Assist with Monthly reports for Unit.
  • Support events, pre, during and post events.
  • Manage SANRAL internal RSVP system and stakeholder list approval process.
  • Learn how to compile different Events and Outreach program supportive documents.
  • Work with stakeholder coordinators throughout South Africa and Marcoms coordinators on all Events, stakeholder and outreach plans.
  • Liaison with different stakeholders as well as attend event related meetings.
  • Record all received and support sponsorship initiative.
  • Administrate duties and be taught on different administrative systems used within SANRAL and record keeping.
  •  Travel Extensively and be exposed to different SANRAL projects related events.

TRANSFORMATION EXPOSURE

Under the Guidance of the Transformation Officer, the Intern will be exp[osed to the following: 

  • Manage incoming queries from SANRAL Transformation Portal, telephonic and walk-ins.
  • Manage the query and response register.
  • Provide information to SMMEs on SANRAL’s transformation initiatives.
  • Utilize the online transformation Supplier Development Desk portal to assist SMMEs.
  • Monitor queries being received for the purposes of trend analysis.
  • Attend Transformation unit meetings and take minutes.
  • Attend stakeholder meetings as and when required.
  • Collect and summaries the service providers’ tender information from supply chain unit, Project Managers and Provincial Bid Evaluation Committee.
  • File and perform administrative work in the Transformation Officers office.
  • Carry out other duties as assigned by the Provincial Transformation officer.

OBJECTIVE

Provide an opportunity for graduates to obtain on-the job training, mentorship, and to sharpen their skills within SANRAL’s Business Development Unit. This opportunity will enable the graduates to develop in-depth knowledge of commercial properties and land development, commercial products and services, market research, financial and commercial, and commercial law related to the business development portfolio. The graduates will further obtain knowledge and understanding of local and international best practices, and commonly used commercial property strategy development techniques, commercial and financial principles, operational systems, and governance standards.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • NQF 7 in Commercial Property Development, Town Planning, Commercial Property Planning or Administration, and related Property Financial Management.

EXPOSURE

Under the Guidance of the GM: Business Development, The Intern will be exposed to the following:

  • Assist the BDU team in the commercial property development strategy and planning, commercial property investment initiatives to support the implementation of the strategic plan, optimise the commercial opportunities and revenue, monitor commercial and financial performance of the investment property portfolio, and further assist in the development of the business development policy and governance processes.
  • Research and propose opportunities for new commercial property developments for revenue growth for SANRAL, including execution plans for exploiting new markets and opportunities identified.
  • Conduct extensive ongoing market research to keep track of competitors’ commercial property developments and marketing strategies and identify lease patterns and emerging market trends.
  • Combine understanding of operational landscape and local and international market factors to produce information used to assess past and present commercial projects. This will include forecasting future financial performance of projects.
  • Analyse property valuation reports and consult internal and external stakeholders regarding property valuation processes and outcome.
  • Maintain partnerships with new and existing stakeholders in the commercial property sector and apply investment trends and international best practices in the development of commercial properties.
  • Cultivate and maintain good working relationships with key stakeholders, partners and service providers.
  • Assist the BDU to manage the Capex and OPEX spend according to the approved budget, including performing annual and mid-term budget reviews.
  • Assessment of business cases and complex development proposals, considering industry contracting standards, including feasibility studies, due diligence projects, and best use of commercial properties to maximise the return on investment.
  • Develop briefs/ scope of works to deliver on projects in compliance with supply chain management processes.
  • Ensure accurate and timely information is available for monthly management reports, covering all aspects of commercial property development projects, commercial products and services and strategic projects.
  • Manage and prioritise urgent and important tasks within defined deadlines.
  • Actively participate in the relevant functional working groups/business execution forums/clusters.
  • Support in the preparations of industry events and create presentations that position SANRAL commercial investment property portfolio as well as commercial products and services.

The Interns will be exposed to Asset Management (collecting, analyzing and interpreting asset performance data) and Research and Innovation (research, innovation and road safety). 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Minimum requirements for the Research and Innovation Internship:

  • NQF 7 in Public Administration & Management. 

Minimum requirements for the Asset Management Internships:

  • NQF 6 or above in Civil Engineering.

Internship: Research and Innovation

Under the Supervision of a Research, Innovation and Road Safety Education Manager the intern will be exposed to the following:

Project management and administration of a research programme

  • Coordinate workshops per research focus area to establish, review and prioritise research needs
  • Ensure external peer reviews of project proposals when required
  • Coordinate quarterly progress/technical research focus area meetings to monitor progress and ensure alignment to SANRAL’s overall research programme
  • Perform administrative oversight and contract management activities including the management of research project budgets, and reviewing and accepting milestones for payment of invoices
  • Ensure that required data is uploaded into ITIS Research Module
  • Coordinate the research impact assessment report on quarterly basis
  • Coordinate presentation of research progress/results at industry seminars
  • Ensure that Master and PhD’s students receive the required mentorship
  • Monitor the performance of the research team and team members
  • Coordinate update of panel researchers every 3 years
  • Ensure all required research documentation is approved and electronically uploaded into the records management system
  • Prepare documentation for the Focus Group Research and Innovation, arrange meetings and prepare reports on budget and progress for each meeting 

Stakeholder Engagement and Technical Advisory

  • Manage collaboration, liaison and information sharing between research teams within a research focus area
  • Attend to queries from researchers and other internal/external stakeholders
  • Maintain the research database (e.g. other research projects underway, publications, etc.)
  • Report on the progress of research projects and outputs for the relevant focus area
  • Participate in the relevant functional working group for research and innovation
  • Support the Research and Innovation manager with other delegated activities

To provide a work-integrated platform for graduates to learn the logistics function within an State Owned Entity environment. The opportunity will lend itself to developing knowledge and application of Strategy, Service, and Cost requirements. 

Minimum Requirements

  •  NQF 6 in Logistics, Transport management, Operation Management, Business administration, Customer Relations/ SCM related qualification.

Exposure

Under the guidance of the GM: ICT strategy and Innovation, the intern will gain exposure to various tasks and responsibilities: 

Stock & Asset Support

  •  Assist with receiving, recording and issuing tag stock, equipment and consumables.
  •  Maintain accurate stock records and report shortages or discrepancies

Dispatch & Distribution

  • Prepare parcels for dispatch to customer service centres, toll plazas, mobile operations vehicles and internal teams. •
  • Track deliveries and confirm receipt with stakeholders 

Inventory & Warehouse Support

  • Conduct regular stock counts and update inventory registers.
  • Ensure storage areas are organised and compliant with safety requirements. 

Mobile Operations Support

  • Assist with stock preparation for mobile operations vehicles.
  • Support readiness activities and replenishment of operational supplies. 

Documentation & Reporting

  •  Prepare delivery notes, stock transfer forms and dispatch registers. 
  •  Update systems and assist with weekly/monthly logistics reports.

Stakeholder Support

  •  Respond to stock or logistics queries from internal teams.
  • Escalate any operational issues to the Logistics Supervisor. 

Compliance & Safety

  • Adhere to OHS guidelines and internal stock-handling procedures.
