GEPFUTURE INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES 2026-2028

Government Employees Pension Fund (GEPF) invites applications for Internship opportunities
in the below mentioned fields. The GEPFuture Internship Programme will run for the period
from 01 April 2026 to 31 March 2028.

General principles and requirements:

  • The programme is aimed at unemployed graduates who have successfully completed
    at least a three (3)-year Degree/ National Diploma OR students who have passed all
    course work but require practical workplace exposure for completion of a qualification
    in any field specified above.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who have obtained a minimum 60% aggregate
    pass mark at undergraduate level (final year) and a minimum 55% pass mark at post
    graduate level.
  • Applicants are only opened to South African citizens between the ages of 18 and 35
    years.
  • Students that still need to finish or qualify for a Degree or National Diploma should not
    apply.
  • Applicants who have benefited from an Internship programme and have previous
    formal employment in the field of study will not be considered.
  • GEPF will not make provision for accommodation to any candidate attending the
    interviews or appointed candidate.
  • GEPF will ensure that its selection and recruitment process is employment equity
    compliant. Preference will be given to people with disabilities.
  • If after your appointment it is established that you have given false information, this
    may lead to a termination of contract.
  • Correspondence will be limited to short-listed candidates only. If you have not been
    contacted within 1 month after the closing date, please consider your application as
    unsuccessful.

SENIOR INTERNAL AUDITOR

GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES PENSION FUND

With more than 1.2 million active members and around 550,000 pensioners and bene ciaries as well as assets worth more than R2.69 trillion, the Government Employees Pension Fund is a de ned bene t fund that manages pensions and related bene ts on behalf of government employees in South Africa. It is the largest pension fund in South Africa and Africa. The GEPF is currently seeking to appoint a suitably quali ed individual with the relevant experience to  ll the below role within the Internal Audit Unit, in Centurion.

Purpose of the Role: To execute the internal audit coverage plan by evaluating internal controls, risk
management, and governance processes through seamless audit mechanisms in line with international
standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the development of strategic documents including the Internal Audit Coverage Plan, Charter, Manual, and Strategic Plan.
  • Perform audit planning by understanding functional areas, identifying key risks, and compiling Internal Audit Planning Memoranda.
  • Execute internal audits in compliance with the Global Internal Audit Standards and the approved Internal Audit Manual.
  • Review and evaluate the Fund’s system of internal controls, risk management, and governance processes to provide assurance to senior management and stakeholders.
  • Compile audit reports, discuss findings with management, and agree on action plans to address control weaknesses.
  • Conduct follow-up audits to ensure resolution of findings and monitor implementation of management action plans.
  • Engage with co-sourced service providers to ensure skills transfer.
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Manage budgets and monitor expenses to ensure adherence to approved financial plans.

Qualifying Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (NQF Level 7) in Internal Audit, Management Sciences, or a related field.
  • Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) certification (Preferred).
  • Honours Degree (Preferred).
  • Minimum of 6 years’ experience in internal auditing.
  • Knowledge of Pension Fund Legislation in South Africa and the Global Internal Audit Standards.
  • Proficiency in internal audit software and proven audit techniques.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team and with diverse stakeholders
