Job Purpose
The CFO is tasked with providing executive financial leadership and governance to South African Airways Technical (SAAT). This includes developing, implementing, and overseeing a sustainable financial strategy designed to support long-term organizational viability, drive operational excellence, ensure regulatory compliance, and deliver value to the shareholder. The role operates within a complex, asset-intensive Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) environment.

Principal Accountabilities

  1. To provide strategic financial leadership and oversight in support of SAAT’s corporate and technical strategy:

a. Develop, implement and continuously refine SAAT’s integrated financial strategy, operating model and financial governance framework, aligned to the SAA Group strategy and shareholder expectations
b. Act as a strategic business partner to the CEO and Executive Committee, providing forward-looking financial insights to support strategic and operational decision-making
c. Serve as an ex-officio member of the SAAT Board, contributing to strategic oversight, risk governance and financial stewardship

  1. To ensure financial sustainability, liquidity management and capital optimisation across the organisation:

a. Lead enterprise-wide financial planning, budgeting, forecasting and long-term financial modelling to support business growth and sustainability
b. Oversee cash flow management, treasury operations, funding strategies and capital allocation to ensure liquidity and financial resilience
c. Evaluate and approve capital investment proposals, business cases and return-on-investment assessments for major MRO programmes and infrastructure initiatives

  1. To drive financial performance, cost discipline and value creation within a high-cost MRO operating environment:

a. Establish and enforce robust cost management, cost recovery and pricing governance frameworks aligned to MRO operational realities
b. Monitor and improve financial performance indicators, including revenue, EBITDA, margin performance and asset utilisation
c. Identify and address emerging financial risks and performance gaps through proactive intervention and corrective action

  1. To ensure sound financial governance, compliance and assurance in line with legislative and regulatory requirements:

a. Ensure full compliance with PFMA, King IV, IFRS, GAAP, Treasury Regulations and other applicable legislation
b. Oversee internal and external audit processes and drive the reduction of audit findings and control deficiencies
c. Strengthen internal control environments, financial policies and reporting disciplines across the organisation

  1. To provide leadership and oversight of the Finance function in order to ensure it is fit-for-purpose and future-ready:

a. Structure and resource the Finance division to effectively support SAAT’s operational, commercial and strategic objectives
b. Drive continuous improvement in financial systems, reporting, forecasting accuracy and decision-support capability
c. Lead and develop senior finance leaders to ensure succession, capability depth and executive-level financial competence

  1. To manage key stakeholder relationships in support of SAAT’s strategic and financial objectives:

a. Engage with shareholder representatives, regulators, lenders, auditors, suppliers and strategic partners on all financial and governance matters
b. Represent SAAT in financial engagements at Group, Board, regulatory and funding forums
c. Maintain credibility and confidence with internal and external stakeholders through transparent, accurate and timely financial reporting

  1. To manage the department’s human resources in line with SAAT’s HR policies and procedures:

a. Recruit resources at management roles as per the departmental staffing demand
b. Identify the training needs of direct reports and oversee their development in order to ensure and maintain competence
c. Develop performance contracts for all direct reports in line with SAAT’s strategic objectives, conduct performance appraisals to measure productivity and meet objectives
d. Initiate appropriate Labour Relation action within the department and chair hearings where necessary
e. Motivate employees within the department to ensure high morale and improve productivity
f. Adhere to all HR policies and procedures

Qualifications & Experience
Registration as a Chartered Accountant – CA(SA) SAICA is essential
Postgraduate qualification in Finance, Accounting or a related field
A minimum of 12 years’ senior financial leadership experience, gained within complex, regulated and asset-intensive environments, which may have been gained simultaneously
At least 5 years experience at Executive or ExCo level, with demonstrated accountability for:
Enterprise-wide financial strategy
Large-scale CAPEX and OPEX management
Liquidity, treasury and funding oversight
Board and shareholder engagement
Demonstrated experience in Aviation, MRO, engineering, logistics or manufacturing sector exposure will be a strong advantage
Proven track record in:
Financial turnaround and sustainability
Treasury, funding and liquidity management
Board and shareholder engagement
Leading large, multi-disciplinary finance teams

Job Purpose
South African Airways (SAA) wants you to join the SAA family as a First Officer.

As a First Officer, you will be expected to take all measures required for the safety of the flight, whether on the ground, or inflight, and be expected to perform the duties of a pilot for South African Airways as either a Second-In-Command Pilot (P2) or Cruise Relief Pilot (P3).

Qualifications & Experience
Matric Certificate / Grade 12 results / N3 or relevant tertiary qualifications (SAQA accredited)
Compulsory subjects: Mathematics or Statistics 101 and English (D symbol on higher grade or C symbol on standard grade) coupled with one of the following: Physical Science or Computer Science (D symbol on higher grade or C symbol on standard grade)
Valid South African Airline Transport Pilot’s License, or a Commercial Pilot License having completed all the ground subjects for the ATPL (previously known as a Frozen ATPL). A valid ATPL License must be obtained within 4 years from date of employment with SAA with a multi engine instrument rating
Valid Class 1 medical
A minimum of 1,500 flying hours which includes 200 hours on multi-engine aircraft
Be a South African citizen with a valid Passport
Knowledge and Skills
Must have expertise in the application of safety standards and safe operating practices
Detailed knowledge and understanding of national and international aviation regulations such as CAA, ICAO, IATA, FAA, and EASA
Demonstrate a firm understanding of international travel, international customs and practices etc.
Knowledge of all legal regulations for the piloting/aviation profession in the South African and international regulatory environment
