HEAD OF DEPARTMENT: LEGAL & REGULATORY AFFAIRS
Minimum Salary Package: R1, 756, 186 per annum (Cost to Council)
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION
Relevant legal qualification e. g B. Proc, or LLB degree or equivalent.
Master’s degree in law (LLM)/ Master’s degree in Medical Law/ Forensic Medicine/ Business
Management/ Administration / Business Leadership.
Admitted Advocate/ Attorney and in good standing with Legal Practice Council (LPC) in SA.
10 years as practising Attorney or Advocate.
5 years’ experience in senior management in a corporate organisation or similar organisation as HPCSA.
ADDED ADVANTAGE
Qualification, Certificate or experience in legislative, policy, contracts review and drafting, or legal
documents review and drafting.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITY & KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
Develop and maintain a sound legal framework for compliance by HPCSA and for the HPCSA Boards
Ensure adequate support is provided to the HPCSA pertaining to litigation and legal drafting as and when necessary.
Ensure an effective and efficient prosecution service for professional conduct cases.
Attend all strategic and operational meetings to obtain insight to business and legal challenges.
Analyze new challenges in the health industry and evaluate the impact on the South African legal context.
Advise and ensure adherence to HPCSA policies, regulations and corporate governance including
HPCSA’s statutory and regulatory obligations.
Improve the legal and regulatory affairs processes and internal controls to enhance efficiency.
Foster a business relationship with all key stakeholders that include frequent engagements and manage
expectations effectively.
Utilize a combination of medical expertise and operational knowledge to ensure that complex matters are resolved effectively.
Consider all possible risks associate with legal matters and operational risks within the department and
organisation.
Be able to legally advise the HPCSA and the Council
N.B. Shortlisted candidates may be subjected to competency assessment.
