JOB SUMMARY
The successful candidate will be responsible for the design conceptualization, design layout and production of advanced visual communication materials including motion graphics, animated content, multimedia productions in support of Parliaments digital communications, print publications, media relations and public engagement platforms. The Specialist Graphic Design is also responsible for providing a strategic visual communication service for the entire PCS division, ensuring consistent, high-quality, and accessible visual content that effectively communicates Parliament’s work to diverse audiences across all communication channels in accordance with Parliament’s communication strategy and brand guidelines.
Your key responsibilities will be:
- Creative Design Direction
- Motion Graphics and Animation
- High-End Graphic Design and Publication Layout
- Visual Strategy for Digital Platforms
- Technical and Production Oversight
- Mentorship and Quality Assurance
To qualify, you must have:
- Matric certificate (NQF 4), Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design / Motion Graphic Design / Visual Communication / Digital Design / Multimedia Design, or a related qualification (NQF 7).
- Postgraduate qualification or advanced certification in Motion Graphics / Animation is advantageous.
- With 5 years’ relevant graphic design experience having operated in a similar environment.
IN ADDITION, YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO DEMOSTRATE THE FOLLOWING SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS AND JOB-RELATED SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:
Knowledge and Technical Skills
- Knowledge of the technical aspects of photography
- Ability to recognize and apply different design styles to fulfil specific themes
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
- In-depth knowledge of Adobe Design Suite software
- Demonstrated colour calibration and photo manipulation skills
- Good visual sense to appreciate and advise on display and graphic design
- Knowledge of web interface design with a focus on user interaction, usability, accessible design, and aesthetics
- Knowledge and proficiency in defining and implementing grid layouts
- Experience and ability to manipulate, deconstruct, or apply effects to various design elements
- Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of digital art, graphic design, layout, and illustration
- Understanding of integrated communication strategies and multi-channel campaigns
- Ability to manage and prioritize design requests from multiple units simultaneously
- Knowledge of media production workflows across print, digital, and broadcast platforms
- Knowledge and understanding of the sensitivities of working within a political environment
- Good time management and planning and organizing skills

- Ordering and stock control
- Implement Health and safety regulations and standards
- Maintain operational equipment
- Staff Supervision
To qualify, you must have:
- Grade 12 or NQF Level 4 National Diploma in Professional Cookery or Related (NQF Level 6)
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in professional cookery with 3 years’ experience as Head Chef or similar position
