Reporting to the Senior Manager Project Controls in the Project Controls Department, the incumbent will be responsible for providing professional quantity surveying / cost engineering services for Projects within the Capital Projects and Compliance Division.

Minimum Requirements

• Applicants must be in possession of a formal qualification (B Tech, B degree) Quantity Surveying Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Water etc.)
• 5-year experience in Project Management with a proven track record in project scheduling, project management skills (best project management practices) in terms of managing matrix structures, multi-disciplinary projects
• 10-year extensive experience engineering projects, cost estimating, project progress evaluation and valuation OR Minimum 10 years Quantity Surveying / Cost Engineering experience with a proven track record in the Engineering field (Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Automation and Building, etc.)
• Professional Registration (eligibility to be registered) with the South African Council of Quantity Surveyors (SACQS) or the Engineering Council of SA (ECSA)
• Project Management Qualification (Diploma / Degree) will be an advantage
• Computer Literate SAP Project System, MS Office with strength in Excel, MS Project, WinQS
• Proven management, communication and leadership skills, strong influencing skills, conflict resolution skills and ability to achieve objectives without having direct responsibility.
• Sound knowledge of Project Estimating and Enterprise Project Management tools

Primary Duties
•Manage quantity surveying services relating to estimating and cost control, the tendering process and, after contract award, the commercial interface.
•Manage estimating and measurement of construction works prior to tender.
•Become a Team member in clarifying and evaluating tenders
•Manage the resultant contract through monthly cost reports, variations control, and assessment of claims.
•Review Escalation, cost and trends in the engineering industry
•Financial evaluation during Tender Adjudication
•Verification and Valuation of contract claims, variations, calculation of penalties

Primary Duties

Primary Duties
Carry out planned maintenance, daily, weekly, monthly and annual maintenance tasks. Investigate and repair all breakdowns, by ensuring plant availability, reliability as well as ensuring safety of people and equipment.
Perform standby duties as and when required, thereby accepting responsibilities for all electrical installation and required decision making that will ensure plant availability after normal working hours.
On the job training to be provided to new personnel, assistants and apprentices. Assist and manage contractors and head office personnel for all work done in the relevant sections (i.e. isolate, test, co-ordinate work, etc.)
Maintenance Planning System by monitoring and analyses of section performance as well as participate in formal RCM and RCA’s.
Complete all planned scheduled job cards, defects, time sheet permits and log books within time in accordance with Rand Water procedures.
Perform Fault-finding on all electrical circuits, tracing and locating faulty cables.
Perform general electrical work and responsible for housekeeping.
