- PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
- The Shaft Timberman is responsible to provide engineering maintenance, repairs and construction services to the shaft and station area.
- WORK OF ROLE
- Allocating resources and equipment according to priorities
- Assisting with equipment maintenance
- Blasting hanging boxes
- Blasting in decline area
- Communicating operational problems
- Communicating resource requirements
- Compiling accurate shift and work order reports
- Completing job cards and descriptions of work and spares used
- Effective administration of systems (shaft)
- Effective maintenance of the shaft to standard and legal compliance
- Effective shaft maintenance through the ability to performing shaft maintenance
- Ensuring accuracy of technical data
- Ensuring the effectiveness of pipe and equipment installations
- Inspecting shaft and installations for defects
- Performing shaft maintenance
- Raising stock requisitions for materials required
- QUALIFICATIONS
- Grade 12
- Onsetter Certificate
- Blasting Certificate
- EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in the mining / shaft environment
- KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- Valid driving licence code 08

- PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
- The Stope Serviceperson is responsible to work in the operational stopes and development ends to maintain machinery and equipment for production.
- WORK OF ROLE
- Accompany and support Engineering Foreman/Artisan when inspecting work
- Assisting during breakdowns or emergencies
- Compiling safety, injury, risk and incident reports
- Comply with operational risk management programme – (A1 Safety)
- Ensure that all required tools, material and spares are available to perform tasks
- Perform basic fault-finding activities on defective units and maintenance actions
- Perform dismantling, repair, re-assembly and installation tasks
- Perform necessary maintenance and repair work on equipment
- Promote safety awareness by reminding team members to follow work procedures and identifying unsafe work practices
- Receive and follow instructions from Engineering Foreman/Artisan
- Report any malfunctioning to Engineering Foreman/Artisan – Comply with maintenance/Breakdown schedules
- Request equipment and stock requisitions required
- QUALIFICATIONS
- Grade 12
- Stope Serviceman (UG Hard Rock) Certificate
- EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of 18 months previous experience as Engineering Repairperson Multi Discipline
- KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- Communications in English
- Multi-disciplined engineering knowledge
- Complete Engineering Repairperson Discipline Specific training

- Conducts and participate in risk assessments

- English literate (speak, read, and write)
- Must be able to do standby and overtime
- Must be familiar with risk assessments procedures

1 PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
- A Stope Timber fulfils a shift role in a panel area of mining operations and is responsible for all panel cleaning work and support under the guidance of the Stoper / Crew Captain / Mining Team Supervisor.
- WORK OF ROLE
- Assist during breakdowns or emergencies
- Effective panel support and cleaning
- Ensure high standard of safety in panel
- Ensure that a blast in the next shift can take place
- Ensure that mechanical equipment is in good running order
- Help in-stope logistics to maintain equipment
- Install permanent support in panel, including preparation of material and making safe equipment for next blast
- Make sure panel is safe, support early entry and exit inspections, bar face
- Support the Crew Captain /Stoper/ Mining Team Supervisor in identifying material requirements
- Support the measurement of mining activities
- QUALIFICATIONS
- Grade 10
- Stope Timber Certificate of Competency
- EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a Stope Timber
- KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- Passed panel assistant shaft timber training module
- Passed basic panel assistant maintenance course
